Realizing the horrible truth about Jerome
I caught a cab to Arkham. "Hi my name is Quinn. I'd like to visit an inmate here."
"You don't have much time; visiting hours end in fifteen minutes." The receptionist replied. "Who would you like to see?"
"Jerome Valeska."
At this the receptionist's glance up at me. "Mr. Valeska? He doesn't get very many visitors. In fact, Mr. Valeska never receives any visitors. Wait I know you, your the girl that He tried to kill. Why would you want to see him?"
"First of all, Jerome did not try to kill me. He would never hurt me, and second I'd like to speak with him. As for my reason quite frankly,
that's none of your concern."
"Very well. I shall have the guards escort Mr. Valeska to a visitation room, but like I said your visit will have to be a short one. So I suggest you make the most of it. It's two doors down on the left hand side."
Standing outside the room I began to feel nervous. "Get a grip Quinn. This is Jerome we are taking about. He wouldn't hurt you and besides he's going to be in chains and under guard. Just go in ask your questions and then leave." My conscience replied.
"Well hello there sweetheart it's been a long time."
I nodded and took a seat directly across from
Jerome who smiled and turned his head towards the guard holding up his handcuffed hands. "Hay buddy could you do me a favor? Could you remove these chains so I can have a proper visit with Mrs. Young? I'd love to give her a hug for old times sake."
"Of course Mr. Valeska." The guard replied immediately unlocking Jerome's hands but leaving his feet chained.
"Aww come on, Quinn don't look so nervous. I won't bite. Come give your old pal a hug." Jerome said holding his arms out wide. I shook my head.
"I'd rather not. We don't have much time."
"Ah Yes, visiting hours are over in ten minutes. Don't worry about that Doll. We have all the time in the world. Isn't that right buddy?" Jerome asked winking at the guard who nodded. This only served to make me feel even more uncomfortable and I shifted in my seat. "You didn't come to visit little old me because you missed me. So why are you here?" Jerome asked.
"I needed to talk to you."
"About?"
"You kidnapped me twice tried to make it a third time and wanted to kill Bruce Wayne a good friend of mine."
At this, Jerome leaned back in his seat putting his feet on the table and smiled at me. "Your point?"
Irritated I pushed his feet off the table almost causing him to fall on the floor. "Why?" I demanded.
Jerome leaned forward slightly "why what?"
"Why did you kidnap me? Why do you want to kill Bruce Wayne and Jim Gorden? They've done nothing to you."
"Bruce is an entitled rich brat who needs to be taken down a peg. I mean the whole city worships him, everyone wants to be him. He's the Prince of the city. How does one run an empire? For starters, You take out it's rulers and their warriors." Jerome replied.
"Why kidnap me then?"
At this question Jerome moved closer so that we were inches apart from each other. "Because sweetheart, You belong by my side. You understands me and I know that while you might I not want to admit it, deep down you love me."
Jerome replied leaning in closer in an attempt to kiss me. However, I pulled back just in time to avoid his lips crashing onto mine.
"You call killing innocent people and taking Bruce and I to the carnival of terror a quirk? It was like something out of a horror movie."
"People used as the moles in whack a mole, a dunk tank filled with piranhas, people riding the carousel being held by gun point? I'm glad that your baby sister wasn't a part of the carnival."
At this, Jerome frowned he obviously didn't like me mentioning his baby sister.
"Come on Quinn, give me some credit. I'm not that heartless. I love my little sister and I have no intention of hurting her unless I am given a reason too. For example, if hurting my baby sister is the only way to get my brother to come out of hiding then so be it."
"As for us, well, just know this, I am a very jealous man. Your mine Quinn! You always have been mine and you always will be mine. No one will stand in the way of our relationship."
"Not Gotham's Prince, not the police, not the underground, not even my brother. No one touches what's mine. When I chose to leave here, I will seek you out and you will be my queen. Wether you want to be or not."
"I... I have to go." I replied standing up and turning towards the door. Only to have my hand grabbed and to be whirled around to face a very angry Jerome who squeezed my wrist tightly.
"Don't ever turn your back on me sweetheart. It is a very dangerous thing to do. You don't know what I'm capable of."
"Please Jerome let go. Your hurting me." I replied as his grip on my wrist tightened.
"Not until you give me a goodbye kiss for old times sake." Jerome replied with an evil smile. "Not just a peck on the cheek. I want a real kiss. Like the one you shared with my brother the night he disappeared."
At this, my eyes widened in shock and Jerome chuckled. "You thought I didn't know about that didn't you? Trust me Quinn, I know everything there is to know about you. I know what you like to do in your spare time, I know what your favorite foods are."
"I know how devastated you were when my brother disappeared into thin air with out so much as a goodbye. I know how your heart broke after the death of your mother. I know your secret wishes and desires."
"Yes, I know all about you. My my how time has passed it's almost time for lights out. I suggest if you don't want to spend the night locked in here with me then you had better pucker up." He said with a amused smile.
"Umm ok." I replied nervously giving him a quick peck on the lips.
Immediately his smile dropped and he stared at me with a blank expression on his face. "You call that a kiss? This is a kiss!" Jerome replied pulling me closer to him and kissing me passionately on the lips. I wanted to resist him but I found myself lost in his gaze.
When he finally stopped kissing me I gasped for breath and Jerome chuckled. "Now that is a kiss Doll Face. Promise you'll visit again soon. I need something to look forwards too in this horrible place or I truly will go insane."
"I'll come visit again tomorrow. I promise." I replied.
"If you fail to keep that promise you'll regret it. You see, I can leave here anytime I want. I just need a reason. So if I were you, I'd make sure you don't give me one." Jerome warned.
After leaving Arkham I was extremely shaken up. It was as if Jerome had the entire staff under his control which meant what he said was true. He could escape any time he wanted. I knew that it was no longer safe for me to stay at my apartment.
So I called the number on the card that Echo had given me. "Hi Echo it's Quinn. Could you please inform Jeremiah I mean Mr. Wilde that I'd like to take his offer to have me move in with him.
Echo POV
I was having such a wonderful day. Mr. Wilde seemed heartbroken upon his return from dinner with that slut. Maybe now he could forget that slut and move on. Maybe now he would realize that we belonged together.
He had said that he'd call me later so I was estatic when my phone rang thinking that it was him. I had to hide my disappointment when I realized that it was the little tramp was on the other end.
"Could you please tell Jeremiah I mean Mr. Wilde that I'd like to accept his offer to move in with him." My heart sank upon hearing those words. Then my sadness turned to anger and I smashed a nearby lamp and picture frame. "Are you alright? I thought I heard something breaking."
"I'm just peachy." I replied through gritted teeth. With that I hung up on her to continue my destructive rampage. Once I had calmed down a little I noticed that I had five missed calls two from that brat and three from Mr. Wilde. I immediately dialed his number. "I am so sorry Mr. Wilde, I didn't hear the phone ring."
"That's alright Echo. Have you heard from Quinn? She just up and disappeared and I'm worried."
"Ummm no I haven't heard from her. Sorry." I replied hoping that he wouldn't realize that I was lying.
"I know your lying Echo. Your phone Records show that you've had three calls from her in the past two hours. Two of which you've ignored. The first call was short which means that you hung up on her. Tell me Echo, why would you do that?"
"How did you???"
At this Mr. Wilde chuckled "it's a company phone Echo. All your calls are monitored. So tell me, what did Mrs. Young want?"
I sighed there was no use lying to him. "She would like to accept your offer to have her stay with you provided the offer is still open."
"Of course it is. I want you to go to her apartment and help her pack and bring her here as quickly as possible." Mr. Wilde ordered and once again I sighed in disappointment.
"As you wish sir."
Quinn POV
I heard a knock on the door and opened it to reveal an irritated looking Ecco. "Are you ready to go yet?"
"I just have to pack a few more things and then I will be ready. It won't take long." I replied and she narrowed her eyes at me.
"Don't be all day about it. I do have more important things to do then playing chauffeur."
"Can you help me carry my things to the car?"
"As I said I'm not a chauffeur. Do it yourself." Ecco replied and I sighed. She reminded me a lot of how Molly use to treat me when I was younger.
"Quinn I'm must admit that I'm rather surprised to see you after where we left things off. Where did you disappear to anyway?"
"I needed to get some air and think about things. By the way, how goes the plans to rescue your sister?"
Jeremiah sighed why did she have to lie and change the subject? "I couldn't do go through with it."
"What?!!!"
"After I told you the plan you were so angry. I began to wonder if I was doing the right thing. I realized that I couldn't go through with it."
"So She is still with your abusive Uncle?"
"Yes. I did send the pictures of him hitting Her with a belt to the GCPD but they didn't do anything. It's as if they didn't even care."
I frowned this didn't sound right. "Did you send them directly to detectives Jim Gorden and Harvey Bullock?"
At this question Jeremiah's gaze grew very dark much like Jerome's when he was angry; "Yes. I sent them the pictures and they didn't do a dam thing. They didn't even contact GDOCS. (Gotham's Department of Child Services) Evidently, they investigated similar charges a few months ago."
"However, my sister was insistent that Uncle Zachary never hurt her. Without her being willing to testify that he is abusive there wasn't enough evidence to obtain a arrest warrant." Jeremiah replied bitterly.
"You could send them an anonymous letter stating that he was planning to selling Bella to strangers."
"That wouldn't do any good. Without solid proof it would be a he said she said situation."
"How about the two of us go down to the GCPD and talk to Jim together. I know that he'd hear us out. Maybe we could prove that your Uncle would be willing to sell Your sister by creating a sting operation."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not?"
Jeremiah held up a newspaper the headlines read inmates breakout of Arkham Asylum. Among the missing extremely dangerous Jerome Valeska, Jarvis Teck, Jonathan Crane. "Why did you lie to me Quinn?"
"Lie?"
"I know you went to Arkham to visit with Jerome. You don't understand how dangerous that was do you? He could have hurt you. He could have taken you as a hostage. So that he could escape."
"I know and I'm sorry. I wish I had never gone. He's insane. He said that he's going to kill your uncle and use your sister as a hostage until he gets what he desires. Your alias."
"He still determined to kill me. Why does that not surprise me."
Jerome POV
I knew that I had effectively caused Quinn to worry. While I never would hurt her, I needed her to realize that she belonged to me. That I wouldn't hesitate to hurt or even kill anyone who stood between myself and her. My I was pulled out of my train of thought by a loud yawn.
My poor baby sister was getting sleepy. I looked at my clock and sighed. Why was she so tired? It was only 3:30. Well best make this quick then. "Don't worry babydoll, I'll take you home soon. We just have two more stop to make before we can go there."
"Where are you taking me?" My sister asked her eyes filled with concern.
"To pick up my girlfriend Quinn."
"Do we have too? I'm really not good with strangers."
At this, I gave my sister an annoyed look. "You've known Quinn for years. In fact, she's like your big sister."
"Can't we just go home?"
"I know what your trying to do, and it isn't going to work. Quinn belongs to me. I'm going to tell you the same thing I told her. The two of you belong to me. There is no hiding from me and there is no escaping me. Even if you managed to somehow escape, there is no place on this Earth that I won't find you."
"The sooner you accept this, the easier it will be on the both of us. As for Quinn, I promise, You'll like her. In fact, I bet the two of you will become the best of friends. Ah here we are. Apartment 23b. I bet she still keeps a spare key under the mat." I chuckled as I opened the door but my smile soon faded.
Nothing was out of place, nothing was amiss but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that she was gone. She had run. I chuckled in amusement and then let out an annoyed growl. "Oh my dear sweet Quinn. What part of don't try and run didn't you understand?"
"Well, change of plans, since going to Quinn didn't work we will just have to get Quinn come to us and I know just how to do it." I said with a smile.
"Where are we going now?"
"To a carnival. I created it for people to come and have fun and forget their horrible lives for just a fleeting moment. In fact, it's so popular that people are dying to get in." I said with a slight laugh.
"It's got games and rides and even a Petting Zoo. I promise to take you right after I make a quick phone call. Stay put. Oh and Sis, and don't even think about running away." I smiled. This aught to draw Quinn out.
"Tell him that on second thought you really are you're too tired to want to visit the carnival tonight. Ask if you can go another night."
"Why?"
"You remember watching the news about a carnival where people died while visiting?"
"I think so. What does that have to do with Jerome?"
"Jerome is the one who created that carnival. He wasn't joking when he said people were dying to get in to his carnival . Except instead of dying to get in, they are actually dying to get out. The truth is, once you've entered inside the carnival grounds you don't come out alive." My conscience replied.
"Jerome it's been a long day and I'm really tired. Could we go to the carnival another day?" I asked with a yawn.
"No. We are going to the carnival today."
"But I'm tired!."
"Don't argue with me Sis. You won't like the consequences." Jerome warned.
"What more could you possibly do to me? You've already murdered the only family I've ever known."
"I can take away the one thing that you cherish the most. I can take away your ability to speak and behave like an adult."
"Your bluffing. You can't do something like that." I replied with a frown.
"Actually, I can. All I have to do is contact a good friend of mine. I'm sure you've heard of the mad hatter." Jerome replied with a chuckle.
At this, my eyes went wide. "You wouldn't.."
"Would you like to put that theory to the test then, go ahead, try and run while I am on my phone call."
"Please don't take away that freedom from me. Uncle Zachary always treated me like a toddler. He never let me choose my own outfits or what I wanted to eat. He wouldn't let me go out with friends."
"In fact, he wouldn't let me have friends at all. Now that's he's gone I finally have a chance to be myself. Please, don't that away from me. I'm begging you." I replied with a sniffle and Jerome chuckled.
"I'll tell you what, if you agree not to try and run away and I will let you stay an adult. Heck, I'll even make it so people won't treat you like a child. We can start when we get to the carnival. Do we have a deal?" Jerome asked holding out his hand for me to shake.
Before I replied a voice rang in my head "I don't like this. It's like we are making a deal with the devil." A voice in my head demanded but I shrugged it off.
"What if he can ensure people won't treat me like a child?"
"Do you really think he's going to keep his end of the deal? He calls you his baby sister. Do you really think he's going to treat you any differently then Uncle Zachary did? "
"He gave me his word." I replied with a frown starting to feel confused.
"You know a deal with him will cost you dearly. Just how much are you willing to pay?" The voice replied.
"I'd do anything for people to treat me like an adult."
"Yes and he knows that. He will use that desire against you. He will use it to blackmail you into doing whatever he wants. Just like Uncle Zachary did when he was alive."
"I don't care."
At this the voice in my head sighed "alright but don't say that I didn't warn you."
"Why do you care anyway?"
"I'm your conscience it's my job to make sure you make the right decisions." The voice replied.
"Why haven't I heard you before?"
"I've spoken to you many times before you just don't remember." My conscience replied.
Jerome POV
I pulled out my phone and dialed Quinn's number. "Hello? Jim?"
"Nope. Wanna guess again?"
"Jerome." Quinn whispered.
"I stopped by your apartment. You weren't there. I'm disappointed in you Quinn. Surly you realize that there's no where I'm this city that I can't find you. So why did you even try to run?"
"I don't know, maybe because the last time we were together you kidnapped Bruce and I and took us to that nightmare that you dare to call a carnival. You forced us to watch people be tortured in those horrible games."
"Then to top it off you tried to kill Bruce. You tied him up and threw knifes at him and then tried to shoot him out of a canon. Besides, I didn't try to run, I am out with friends."
"I see. Speaking of the carnival I'm thinking of taking my little sister there."
"No." Quinn whispered.
"What's the matter Quinn, don't think my little sister will enjoy the carnival?"
"First of all, You know what being at that carnival did to Bruce and I. I can only imagine what it would do to your sweet baby sister. So if you don't want to traumatize her then no, I don't think you should bring her to your carnival. And secondly, how did you find her?"
"She was with my no good abusive Uncle. I rescued her from him."
"Yeah by murdering him in front of her. I can't even imagine how traumatizing that must have been for her."
"Actually, she's the one who pulled the trigger."
"What? No, that can't be right."
"He betrayed her and he paid the ultimate price. Anyhow, if you want to see her, then meet me at the pier. You know which one. And Quinn, don't keep me waiting. My little sister is eager to explore the carnival and I promised I'd show her around. And I never break a promise."
" Jerome, don't! Jerome, please..."
"Tick tick tock goes the clock your time is running out." With that the phone went dead.
"shiitake mushrooms." I muttered as I heard the dial tone. Now what was I going to do? There was no way Jeremiah would ever let me leave the safety of the bunker.
