Baby woke at the sound of a door opening. He blinked and rolled over to peer at the figure sleepily. "Stiles?" He murmured. "What are you doing?" There was a rustle of blankets as Stiles slid into bed next to him. The dark haired boy looked troubled and tired. Baby wondered if he had slept at all last night.

"I just had to go and check something. Go back to sleep", Stiles replied softly. Baby hummed and wrapped and arm round Stiles' waist. He nuzzled his face into the other boy's shoulder, basking in his body heat. Stiles smelt of smoke but Baby was too tired to care.

"What did you have to check at the ass crack of dawn?" Baby's voice was muffled and his eyes were closed. Stiles chuckled and his hand landed on Baby's head, fingers stroking his hair.

"Just something that was annoying me. Are you going back to sleep or what?"

"Sleep", Baby decided. He was tired and Stiles was warm. The duvet was soft and it was a weekend. He didn't have to go to school or be anywhere. It was nice. He delved back into the comforting arms of sleep. Breathing deepening as he relaxed against Stiles' side. In his sleep he failed to notice as the hand on his hair froze for a second. There was a switch on Stiles' face, eyes darkening to cold calculation as his hand rested possessively on the sleeping boy's cheek. Then the change was gone and stiles was yawning. He rolled over so that he and Baby were face to face before closing his eyes and joining him in sleep.

——

When Baby next woke up, he was alone in bed. He groaned and rolled over as the sounds of the house began filtering in. Stiles was downstairs. But his space on the bed was still slightly warm and his scent lingered so he mustn't have been awake long. He was talking to someone, probably Scott on the phone. Whatever they were talking about must have been bad as Stiles' voice was tinged with frustration and resignation. Baby yawned and sat up. Stiles had made him shower all the paint off the night before but going to bed with wet hair meant that it was fluffy with bed head.

He slipped out of bed and shuffled downstairs. It was still morning, ten something judging from the sunlight and his internal body clock. He found Stiles in the kitchen accompanied by the smell of food. Stiles turned and jumped upon seeing Baby in the doorway. "We should put a bell on you", he waved a fork threateningly as he sat down at the table. His kitchen fit the black and white theme of the rest of the house. Black marble table and counters. White walls and black tiles on the floor. The dining table and chairs were dark wood with black leather seats. On the dining table was three boxes of food. One had a red velvet cake inside, while the other two had apple pie and peach crumble.

"Morning", Baby grinned. He wandered over and sniffed at the boxes.

"My dad dropped off the peach crumble", Stiles gestured as he handed Baby a plate and a fork. (Black plates of course). "Danny turned up with the red velvet cake and Lydia gave you the apple pie".

"Food", Baby hummed as he went for the peach crumble. Stiles seemed triumphant that Baby had chosen his dessert first.

"There's a blood bag in the fridge and the coffee machine is on". The calm mention of blood made Baby blush. The fact that stiles was so chill about it never failed to make him feel warm inside.

Baby beamed at him and went about helping himself to a cup of coffee and putting his blood in the microwave. It was comfortable silence in the kitchen. The only noise the sound of the microwave and the subtle noises of Baby making his tea and Stiles eating a slice of cake. "We're already late for school", Baby murmured.

"Yeah. We're taking sick days", Stiles added. He seemed jittery.

"Stiles are you okay?" Baby asked. "Cause you don't look well".

"I'm fine".

"You sure. Did you sleep at all last night?" Baby asked. He was worried. Stiles had been jittery and impulsive, beyond his usual, recently.

Stiles inhaled. "No. But we don't need to worry about that. It's your birthday". He stood up and swayed. Baby caught him before he could fall.

"We should take you to the hospital", Baby murmured as he helped Stiles stand straight.

"Nope. No. We should be celebrating your birthday".

"I had no plans for the day", Baby reassured. "I haven't celebrated my birthday since I was five. Besides Danny threw that epic party last night. So I am absolutely fine with missing the day. But we should get you to the hospital, or I could just dope you up with venom and send you to sleep here". He smiled with his fangs. "Your choice love".

"Okay. Hospital", Stiles huffed. He stood straight. "I've heard that your venom gives nasty hangovers".

"It's only so that they can help you sleep", Baby soothed. "Just let me get changed and we can go". Stiles nodded, seemingly too tired to argue.

——

Baby drove Stiles' jeep to the hospital. (Just because he didn't drive did not mean that he didn't know how). They walked through the doors and found Ms McCall at the desk, much to their relief. She looked up at they entered and her face became concerned. "Stiles, why are you here? And Baby". She took in their clasped hands and something in her eyes was fond.

"Hi Melissa", stiles tried to smile as he sat down but it came out fragile. Baby grabbed a second chair and pulled it over to sit at Stiles' side.

He nodded. "Hi Ms McCall". He gave a little wave and Melissa McCall smiled.

"What can I do for you two boys?" She asked.

"Well my boyfriend is severely sleep deprived and is refusing to sleep so I brought him here to be sedated", Baby gave Stiles a look that dared him to argue. Melissa blinked at the statement.

"Well congrats at your relationship", she offered. "But we can't just sedate someone Baby. What's you symptoms?"

Stiles looked between the two of them and sighed. "Hallucinations, insomnia, um... blackouts. But only short ones. And as Baby said, no sleep".

"How many hour have you gotten recently?" Melissa asked. She was jotting down notes in a patient file. Her manner now in nurse mode rather than friend mode. Stiles glanced nervously between the two of them again.

"Eight. In the last three days".

"Stiles", Baby sighed. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't want to worry everyone. And it's your birthday".

"Screw that", Baby huffed. "Your well being is more important". He crossed his arms and turned to Melissa. She was watching them calmly.

"Come with me", she stood and lead them to the nearest empty room. Baby directed Stiles to sit on the bed and the boy did so without complaint. Melissa questioned him a few more times about his symptoms, which stiles answered honestly. Baby listening as he drew patterns with his pinky finger on the back of Stiles' hands.

Eventually Melissa sighed. She went over to the draw and pulled out a needle and syringe. "What's that?" Stiles asked.

"Baby is right. You stiles are a severely sleep deprived young man. Do you trust me?"

"When you're not holding a needle", Stiles joked. Melissa smiled and pulled up his sleeve. She injected him smoothly and disposed of the needle.

"This is a sedative. Get some sleep".

Stiles yawned as Baby helped him lie down. "This thing works fast", he mumbled, words already slurring. Baby smiled as he pulled the hospital blanket over Stiles' form.

"Can I stay?" He asked.

"Of course", Melissa nodded. "Happy birthday by the way".

"Thanks", Baby grinned at her.

"I still haven't given you my present", Stiles slurred. Baby leaned over to kiss his forehead.

"Give it to me when you wake up love".

"Thanks Babes. Thanks mom". Then Stiles was asleep and snoring softly. Baby smiled fondly and curled up next to him on the bed. Melissa lingered long enough to make sure that both boys were sleeping soundly before leaving.

——

Baby woke up before stiles this time. The dark haired boy was still snoring softly next to him when he blinked his eyes open. Baby yawned and sat up. It was dark outside, they had slept the whole day away. His bladder was complaining. Making sure to to disturb his boyfriend, he slipped off the bed and out of the hospital room. Melissa McCall was no where to be seen, probably off doing her job. The corridor where their room was in was silent in the dark. It must not be used very often.

Baby yawned as he followed the signs towards the toilets. They were a few corridors away. Long off white corridors with flickering lights. The toilets weren't much better. The lights were humming audibly and the taps dripped loudly in the silence. Baby did what he needed then went to wash his hands. He was just rinsing off the soap when he looked up and saw a black figure in the mirror. He whirled round, fangs extending defensively. There were four of them and they reeked of smoke. Smoke tinged with the sulphur of sparks. Creatures in black robes with Japanese style masks covering their faces. Their eyes glowed yellow, like a candle or a firefly, and they all held long black blades.

Their head tilted in unison as Baby snarled. Two stepped forwards and grabbed him by the arms. Baby struggled but their grip was like steel. The strength and chill of their hold surprised him and made his hackles rise. He snarled loudly and struggled as the other two creatures approached him. One grabbed him round the neck, hand curving round his jaw and ear, as it forced him to look up into its yellow eyes. Baby couldn't move. It was like the gaze was assessing him. Like it could see right down into the very bottom of his soul. It chilled him. It was cold, as cold as ice. Then the creature let go. There was a spark of burning pain behind his ear and he was falling.

He barely registered his body hitting the floor. He was cold. So cold. It seemed to reach deep into his chest. He wouldn't move. Limbs were limp and he was so cold that he wasn't even shivering. Dimly his mind tried to send warning signals. Vampires were naturally colder than humans. They were like lizards. Without heat, their bodies shut down. Baby could feel his gaze darkening as his body started to shut itself down. He watched as the creatures melted into shadow and smoke before everything went black.
