Chapter 3: Day With Moe
The room went dead silent. "No," Tobin said quietly. "No this can't be happening! This has to be some kind of mistake! Please tell me this a prank! Please!"
She was screaming at this point. Olivia took her by the shoulders and made her sit down. She wrapped her arms around her and rocked her, trying to calm her down.
Jill was on her feet in seconds, asking the doctor a million questions a minute. Dawn, Hope, and Carli just sat in shock. Alex was sick, Alex had cancer.
Alex could die.
"How bad is it?"
It was the first time Carli had spoken all day. The doctor sighed. "I think we caught it in time, but I can't be sure."
Hope sighed. "I'm taking a walk, I'll call you later Oli."
Olivia nodded as Hope jogged out of the hospital. The doctor explained that no one could see Alex right then, because she was too sick. They decided to leave for dinner and then come back the next day.
Dawn drove everyone home and they found that Hope had jogged back to the camp. Tobin immeadiately went to her room and refused to come back out. Carli curled up on the couch with Hope. Olivia found herself wandering aimlessly around camp.
"Hey squirt, you okay?"
She turned around to find Morgan there. She didn't know if the rest of the team knew about Alex yet. She decided not to tell them yet. "Uh yeah, Alex went out, Tobin's asleep and Hope and Carli are together. I'm just trying to find something to do."
"You got any cleats?"
"Uh yeah actually."
"Go grab them, meet me on the old practice field."
Olivia ran back to the cabin. She found Hope and Carli fast asleep on the couch, so she covered them with a blanket. She smiled then ran to her room. She went into the closet and grabbed her cleats. She put her hair into a ponytail and put on athletic shorts.
She ran back to the old practice field. Moe was there, five soccer balls in front of her in a line. "Catch!" she called.
She threw her a pair of gloves. "They're Ash's extras," she explained. "Put em on and get in the goal."
Olivia quickly pulled on the gloves and got into the goal. Moe kicked her some easy shots, which she swiftly and easily blocked. Moe began to pick up the pace and kick them faster and harder. Olivia blocked almost every single one with ease. Moe then kicked her hardest one. It was too high for Olivia so she jumped, and got hit in the head.
She wasn't expecting it, and it knocked her back, knocking the breath out of her. "Oli!"
She ran up to her. Olivia was rubbing the top of her head and laughing. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I think so."
Moe helped her up. "Come on back to my cabin with me, I'll get some ice on you."
They both laughed as they began walking back to the cabin. Kling was on the couch, asleep, her knee had ice on it. "Yeah our practice game wasn't very nice to her," she chuckled.
She rubbed her back as they passed and told Olivia to sit on the chair in the lounge. She came back in with an ice packed, and held it on top of her head. She gave her a smile. "You're a really good goalkeeper."
"Thanks, Hope and I like to practice together sometimes."
"I gotcha."
They sat there for a while until they heard Kling whimpering. "Can you hold this for a second?" Moe asked. "I gotta check on her."
Olivia smiled and nodded. She took the ice pack as Moe moved towards Kling. "What's wrong sweetie?"
Kling groaned. "It hurts."
"I know, I know," she sighed. "Jill is going to kill us."
"I'll be fine, just, it hurts right now."
"Why don't I take you upstairs and you get some rest while I take care of Olivia?"
"Sure."
Moe carried Kling upstairs. She came back down and told Olivia to come to the couch. She took off the ice and examined her head carefully. Olivia winced. "You got a goose bump squirt," she said. "But I don't think you have a concussion or anything major."
Olivia nodded, giving Moe a smile. "So how are you?" Moe asked. "I don't think we've really hung out much."
"No we haven't," Olivia admitted. "And pretty good, we should hang out more, it's really fun."
Moe wrapped an arm around Olivia's shoulders. "Hey, if you wanna hang out just call me," she said. "I'm usually free."
Moe saw that Olivia was staring straight ahead. "You okay squirt?"
"Yeah, just worried..."
"About what?"
"Uh, just Kling I guess."
"Aw don't worry, Kling's a fighter."
Those words made Olivia wince. That's what Alex was. A fighter. "What? What hurts?" Moe asked, seeing her wince.
"Just my head," Olivia lied.
Moe gave her a small smile. "Why don't you get some sleep?" Moe asked.
Olivia nodded. Moe grabbed a pillow and put it at the end of the couch. Olivia lied down and Moe covered her with a blanket. "Goodnight Oli."
"Night Moe."
A few minutes later, there was a knock at the cabin door. Moe opened it to find Hope standing there. "Hey," Moe said. "You looking for the squirt?"
"Yeah..."
"She's asleep on the couch, come in."
Hope entered and shut the door behind her. Moe invited her to the kitchen where they stood against an old wooden island. "What happened?" Hope asked.
"I was kicking balls and she was being a goalie, she got hit in the head."
Hope nodded. "Anything serious?"
"Nah, just a goose egg."
The room was filled with an awkward silence. Eventually Hope left and Moe was left with Olivia, sleeping peacefully on the couch.
