Chapter 20
A bit short.
Bear with the mistakes ♡
There are two kinds of people in this world. The secretly narcissist and the openly insecure. The ones who are very confident about themselves (although they won't say it to your face) and the ones who can't see eye to eye with their own reflection.
No, that's probably just a lot of bullshit. The human emotions are way too complicated to be so narrowly divided in just two categories. Yet when you think about it, you find yourself drifting in one of the aforementioned sides.
Jungkook was a mixture of both, but more of the second. He was insecure about every decision he took. Yet he didn't want to back down from the claim that he's the one in the right. He decided to leave his job, while being extremely conscious about the fact that he can't even afford the roof on his head. It's the courtesy of Namjoon's father that he's able to sit in the warmth that engulfs him, since his parents are very much busy being dead. Ouch. Long story but that's for later. He also isn't oblivious of the fact that he has kind of separated Taehyung from the rest of his family. It has increased the latter's dependence on him, as if he wasn't already so dependent, and they've also grown much closer. Emotionally and on a spiritual level. Nothing romantic. At least not from Taehyung's side.
Jungkook reasoned all his actions with one simple thought. That he was doing all this to keep Taehyung safe. He blamed himself for what happened that day. For being too exhausted to keep an eye on him. He blamed Jimin for what happened that day. For handing the clock to Taehyung and not going after him. He blamed Namjoon for setting up the damn lock in the door. He blamed all of them. But he also knew that it was none of their fault. It wasn't his fault. It wasn't Taehyung's fault for being mentally unstable.
He realised this all. But it was one thing to accept your mistakes in your head and it was another to face them. And Jungkook definitely couldn't face them when Jimin rubs it in face all the time.
"It's been four weeks Jungkook! Four weeks since I haven't properly seen his face. One whole week since I last sat with him. I don't know how that happened okay. We were fine. I read him the story and he sat through it all very silently. Then he's suddenly up and..and switches! I had no idea what I did or how that happened so I panicked. If he has all those personalities then they'll keep coming. For how long will you keep blaming it all on us? I've read about it. It's said that they stay throughout their life. Is that how long you'll keep him away from us?" Jimin was shouting at the top of his lungs at this point. They were in the hall like always while Taehyung was inside Jimjim's room playing with chimmy.
"I'm not blaming you for anything. And stop overreacting for god sake. He's right in front of your eyes all the time, so go along and do your shit. I've never stopped you. Why do you need to have a tea party alone with him." Jimin scoffed at his words whilst turning his head away in frustration. His hands going up to be folded right infront of his chest.
"In front of my eyes? He's always joined to the hip with you. He doesn't leave you even for a second now and that's not how it used to be. It's not just normal affection Jungkook. The mate bond is making him do so. Right now it all feels nice and amazing but eventually when you'll have to leave and he'll grow separation anxiety, that's when you'll realise your mistake, but it'll be just another mistake too late to be fixed." Silence fills are room and Jungkook doesn't know what to say anymore. To shout and defend or to accept and repent? This outcome was not something Jungkook had seen before and now it was yet another thing to add into his list of anxiety. He bites his lips while also picking at the skin of fingers, peeling them off in the process. It was a nervous habit which he couldn't stop himself from doing no matter how much he tried.
"I...we have to go how. We're getting late for the appointment with Dr Jung." He simply mutters out, not meeting Jimin's eyes as he makes his way to his room where Taehyung was playing with Chimmy.
"You're an hour early Jungkook. It's barely a 15 minutes drive." Jimin speaks sympathetically as he realised that he somehow hurt Jungkook's feelings.
"I'm getting late at being early." And he was walking again but Jimin stops him by grabbing his wrist, trying to make the younger face him, but he didn't.
"Jungkook you know that I care for you right? You're like my little brother. I only wish for your happiness and nothing else. I don't want you or Taehyung to get hurt in any way and that's why I..."
"We'll talk later Hyung. Maybe when I can hear you better." Right now there are too many vices. He removes his hand from Jimin's grasp and enters the room. Chimmy was laying down in Taehyung's lap while he was making incoherent sounds and funny faces to make her laugh. He had grown a lot closer to the baby and Jungkook had a feeling that it wasn't just Taehyung who had grown closer. He has so many speculations already and he'll discuss them all with Hoseok today.
The sound of the door opening, grabbed Taehyung's attention and the latter turned to look at him. And Jungkook could see it. He could see it right in front of his eyes, the way his expressions turned from mature to innocent. Kind to enthusiastic. Maybe he's a little too clingy and protective. But do the others notice this too? Do they ever realise when their Taehyung is not even Taehyung? They couldn't even notice the issues in him. And he's been here all this time. All these years. Would they ever care as much as he did? They all have someone to rely on. They all have their future. Jungkook doesn't. Taehyung is the only one he has. Taehyung is now his only future. They say they care and he knows they do. But sometimes it's not enough. And Jungkook doesn't want Taehyung to settle with little. He wants to give him everything that he was ever deprived of.
"Koo." Jungkook gives him a gentle smile as he picks up Chimmy from his lap and lays her down in her crib. He then walks towards the boy so that he could carry him and they could leave.
"Koo." The younger calls out again as he removes his lips from between his teeth and Jungkook finally tastes the crimson blood that Taehyung was now wiping with the pad of his finger. He noticed. He gives him a sad frown while shaking his head and this was enough for Jungkook to pull him in a tight hug. He lets out the tears that he was holding in, while burying his face in the crook of Taehyung's neck. He feels the younger patting his back, just like he does with him and he could only cry more for he has never felt more loved and important.
Maybe in the process, he could fix him too.
