Chapter Fifty: The Interview: Kit

"Can you start with your name, age, where you're from, and what you do?"

"My name is Kit Covington. I'm from Charleston, South Carolina, in the US. And I teach Medieval History.

"Do you have a soulmate marking?"

"I do have a marking, yes."

"Just one?"

"Ehhh...I don't know. It's hard to tell."

"So you don't know if you have 2 soulmates like the rest of your friends?"

I shook my head. "My soulmate marking has two gems, with a little sliver inside that is my birthstone and uhh...also my name." I shook my head. "No. Sorry. Can you cut that last part out? I never tell people my real name."

"Why not?"

"Because it's a weird and embarrassing name? My parents are...different. I have a bunch of sisters who are all also named after their birthstones."

"So then...what's your name?"

I shook my head. "Nope. Not happening."

"What month were you born?"

"November," I said, then slapped my hand over my mouth. "Damnit! You tricked me!"

The producer shrugged as she stared at her phone screen.

"It's my job to ask the questions, so I was just doing that. Citrine. Pretty name."

I groaned and covered my face with both hands. "God. I'm going to have to tell Tae now, or he'll never let me hear the end of it."

"Tae? Kim Taehyung? How do you know him? Is he one of your soulmates?"

I shook my head. "He's not my soulmate. But he is my friend. We've gotten pretty close lately."

"We heard that it was close enough that you keep waking up in the garden together."

I groaned. "Did he tell you that?"

"It's possible. But he wasn't the only one."

"How many people could possibly kn-" I stopped and narrowed my eyes. "Kris. It was Kris, wasn't it? That little brat. I'm going to hang her out the window by her toes."

"It wasn't Kris. It was actually Jimin, though he didn't tell us who Taehyung keeps waking up with. Just that he was sleepwalking and waking up in the garden."

"So...I outed myself? And so did Tae?"

"Tae seems to really like you. He said that he had been hoping you were his soulmate."

"Yeah...he's said that to me a couple of times."

"But you don't think that he is?"

I shook my head. "No. I don't. I don't have that kind of luck in life. Or...any luck in life. I can't even win at online bingo when I'm the only player."

"That does sound pretty unlucky."

"Exactly. So that's why there's no way that Kim Taehyung is my soulmate."

"Everybody's luck has to change at some point, right? How would you feel if he was your soulmate?"

"Honestly? I'd be pretty damn happy. I like Tae. A lot. He's a really nice guy. He genuinely cares for the people around him. I know that a lot of people say that Jimin is the sweetest man on earth, but I think they just aren't paying enough attention to Taehyung. He does all of these little things for people. He'll hold doors, carry stuff without being asked, leave you that last piece of pizza, go down the hill to get you ice cream when you're too lazy to get it yourself, make you coffee just the way you like it, send you your favorite sushi in the middle of the day for absolutely no reason. He's a really good person."

"Wait...he did all of those things for you? He made it seem like you hadn't spent a lot of time together."

"What is 'a lot?' We're friends. We hang out. He did all of those things just within the week that we've known each other. He will ask the most random questions, just to get to know me and learn the things that I like. And he doesn't do stuff just for me, either. The other day, he heard from Jin that Kris wasn't feeling well, and he had somebody deliver his favorite tea to her, hoping that it would help her throat. Like I said...he's a really good person."

"So he was wrong in saying that you two hadn't had a lot of time together?"

"Not so much wrong as...it's none of your damn business and he likes to keep some stuff private. Not everything in the lives of BTS is for public consumption."

"We get that, we're just curious."

"I understand, but should they feel obligated to tell you everything?"

"I'm not saying that, but when they signed up for the show-"

I held up my hand to interrupt. "We knew what we were signing up for when we all agreed to do the show. But getting information from me, Kris, Mandy, and Mairette shouldn't be the same as it is with the members of BTS. You should just take what they give you and be thankful. They have given so much of themselves to the whole world for so long, and they deserve the right to keep some things private. I really shouldn't have told you everything that I did, without Tae's permission first."

"You seem to really care about him and the other members."

"Of course I do. Tae is my friend, and the other members are the soulmates of my best friends. I care about all of them."

"Your whole group seems really close. It's nice to see. Because what you said is true, the members of BTS have given a lot of themselves to the whole world for a long time. They all deserve to be happy."

"They really do."

"Were you a fan of BTS before you met them?"

"Honestly...no. I wasn't. I knew who they were, because I live on planet earth. But after I met them, I started listening, and I can tell you that I'm hooked now. Their music is pretty incredible, just like they all are."

"Do you know Korean?"

"I do. I told you what my soulmate marking is...and at the tip of both gems, there is a little 'SK'. After I got my mark, I did some research, and the only thing that I could could up with it standing for, was 'South Kroea,' so I started taking Korean lessons. I can speak, understand, read, and write it now."

"Mairette did the same thing, right? She learned Korean after getting her soulmate marks?"

"I think so. I didn't really know her then. But it does seem like something she would do."

"Have you met any of the other Idols who are on this show?"

"Yeah. We had a huge cast party last week, so that everybody could mingle."

"Did you meet anybody that you thought might be your other soulmate?"

"I see what you did there. Implying that one of them was Taehyung. Real smooth. But no. My soulmate marks don't really give a lot of information that would make it easy to say 'that's him. That's my soulmate.' I don't have phone numbers. And I'm not going to go around a party of people that I don't know and ask random strangers what month they were born in."

"Can you show us your soulmate marks?"

"No. They're in a weird spot. Not one that I'm comfortable with sharing."

"What would you say if I told you that, during our interviews, I have figured out who at least one of your soulmates is?"

"How is that even possible?"

"Because at least one of the other participates on this show has a marking that seems like it matches yours."

"They do?"

"Yes. Not exactly like yours. But they have a gem with two colors in it, that they believe are the birthstones of their soulmates."

"Will you tell me who it is?"

"Do you really want me to?"

I took a deep breath and thought about it, then I shook my head. "No. I want to go into this show with an open mind, not with a set agenda."

I left the room and went down the hallway to the linen closet where I knew Tae was waiting for me like he said he would. I stared at the door as I took a deep breath. As I kept staring at it, the door opened a little and a tan arm reached out and grabbed my wrist, pulling me inside the dimly lit closet.

"I could hear you breathing," Tae told me. "Where you thinking about not coming in?"

"Does it matter now that you forced me inside?" I asked him, raising one of my eyebrows. "But no. I was going to come in, I just needed a minute. That interview was...weird."

"Why?"

"The producer told me that she knew who at least one of my soulmates was," I told him. "She said that she thought somebody's mark matched mine."

"Did she tell you who it was?"

"No. She offered, but I'd rather figure it out myself," I said with a shrug.

"Out of curiosity... What does your soulmate mark look like?" he asked me.

I shook my head. "You're not my soulmate, Tae."

I couldn't help the sadness that seeped into my voice a little. Until my interview, I didn't realize how badly I actually wanted it to be him.

"I get that you think that, but I still want to know," he told me.

"Why, Tae?" I asked him. "Why do you want to know?"

"What if it matches mine?" he asks back.

"What if it does?" I answer his question to my question with a question. "Then what?"

"Then you're my soulmate," he says with a shrug. "Which is what I want, anyway."

"I'm not telling you what my mark looks like, Tae," I say. "But I will tell you something else you've wanted to know, since I accidentally gave it away in my interview, and I want to tell you before you see it."

"What's that?"

"My real name," I tell him. "It's Citrine."

"Citrine...isn't that the birthstone for November?" he asks me with wide eyes.

"It is. Me and all of my sisters are named after our birthstones," I explain. "It's kind of dumb."

"It's not dumb. It's actu-"

The sound of his phone ringing cuts him off and he pulls it out of his pocket, frowning when he looks at the caller ID.

"Hello? What? Joon...Hyung, calm down. I can't understand anything you're saying. She what? He....They? Both of them? Where? No, no. I'm with Kit now. Yeah. Got it."

He hung up and looked at me. "We have to go. Kris and Jin are in the hospital."

A/N: I had somebody message me after Tae's chapter, and ask if he was my bias. He's not. Hobi is my bias. Though, if you ask my friends (the real life Kris and Mandy) I have a double bias with Hobi and JK. But after doing some research on Tae so that I could write his personality well, he is starting to grow on me.

Also...Kris....please don't kill me.

Please enjoy some Tae smiles to brighten your day.
