Chapter One

A/N: I blame Tumblr!!

Sans walked through the forest, hands deep in his hoodie pocket as he kicked a stone with his sneaker. The stone bounced off another rock before burying itself deep into the snow. It had been three years since the monsters had gotten to the above-ground world, since their king, Asgore Dreemurr, had managed to break the barrier that had kept them underground for so long. Everyone was finally happy, finally had their hope back....and yet, Sans did not feel complete.

Something was missing, and Sans couldn't understand why. Shrugging to himself, Sans went deeper into the forest, listening as his feet made crunching noises in the snows. As he kept walking, a sudden noise caught his attention.

"What was that?" He asked out loud, making his way towards the noise. Jumping over a fallen tree, Sans continued following the noise, the white prin-picks in his eye sockets darting every which-way, hoping to catch a glimpse of the cause of the noise. Sans must have been getting closer, as he now recognized the noise.

Is someone...crying? Sans thought, and his pace quickened unconsciously. Quickly jumping over another tree and crawling through a bush, Sans entered a clearing and blinked in suprise. The clearing had snow covering everything, and the sun filtered through the trees in such a way that made the clearing have a peaceful feeling. However, that feeling was shattered by a loud sob that echoed through the clearing. Sans tipped his head to the side as the crying subsided a bit and a wavering voice, one that Sans recognized slightly, said in a panic "Please don't cry!...I didn't mean to make you cry...Please calm down."

Sans followed the voice and pushed a snow covered bush to the side and blinked in suprise. The ghost that stared back at him blinked in surprise too and Sans exclaimed "BLOOKY?!"

Napstablook quickly shushed him and darted back farther into the bush and said "Hey, you can laugh at this, if you want."

The crying stopped and Sans jerked back in surprise when a giggle sounded from the bush, obviously from something the ghost had done. Napstablook quickly darted back to Sans and said "You can follow me...if you want, ya know." and darted back into the bush. Sans stared after him then followed him into the bush, and gave a strangled gasp. It was a human!!!

"Blooky, what the hell?!" Sans whispered, staring in amazement at a small human child giggled and reached for the ghost, only to shriek with amazement once their hand when through the Napstablook's body.

"I know, but she's a baby, if you want to know. I couldn't just leave her alone could I? Plus, she was playing with another monster before I got here." Napstablook's voice shook as he told Sans what he learned.

"Really? What monster?" Sans asked in shock. Monsters still really didn't trust humans, so the fact that one willingly went to a human was a shock.

"It was a Vulkin. I think it was trying to keep the kid warm." Napstablook said, and Sans nodded then flinched as the kid pulled on his jacket gently, and babbled at him gently. Napstablook smiled and said "She's not to bad, for a human. She hasn't tried to harm one single monster, not once the whole time she was out here."

"Looks like she was abandoned." Sans muttered, taking the sight of the kids ripped clothing and many cuts and scraps. Looking down at the child, Sans was shocked at just how tiny this human was.

"Even smaller then Papyrus when he was young." Sans murmured to himself before picking up the child, who squealed in shock and hid her face in Sans blue jacket. Napstablook's face showed his shock as the ghost said "So you're gonna take care of her?"

"Sure why not? I'm not cruel, and she is just a baby." Sans said simply before snapping his fingers and asking "By the way, how did you know she was a girl?"

Napstablook smiled and said "I can just tell, it a ghost thing." before fading away. Sans sighed and put the kid into his hoodie, confident that the fur that line the inside was enough to keep her warm. The kid was small enough so that she was engulfed in Sans hood, just the top of her head poking out. Once he checked to make sure that the kid wouldn't fall out, he started making the slow walk back home and, while the kid fell asleep, thought Now...how do I tell Papyrus without him killing the kid?

Sans hesitated once he reached the edge of the woods by their house. The house itself looked exactly like their home in snowdin, down to the last spec of spaghetti sauce smeared on the walls. As he stopped, the kid shifted in his hood and Sans quickly looked around to see if she was falling out, only to be met with the cutest sight he's seen since Papyrus was a kid.

The kid gave a small yawn, stretching as she did so and cuddled back down into the fur of his hood and gave Sans an adorable, half sleepy smile. Sans reached around to tuck the kid in better, only for his hand to be grabbed in a fierce, tiny-handed grip. He stiffened for a moment, before relaxing as the kid hugged his hand and cuddled it like she had a teddy bear. Sans waited for a few moments, sure that the tiny human was going to be appalled or even horrified at the fact that she was hugging a skeletons hand, but kid didn't seem to mind the cold bones as she cuddled closer. Sans chuckled and said "Geez kid, I got to hand it to ya, you got a pretty strong grip..."

Sans went quiet for a second and whispered "How come you ain't afraid?"

Sans felt his mirth return once a giggle from his small passenger echoed through the forest. Taking a deep breath, Sans walked towards the house and prepared for battle.
