Chapter 2

A/N: Y'all can request scenarios lol I need ideas <3

Kouyou was thoroughly confused when she woke up the next morning to Chuuya... not as a baby.

His bright cerulean eyes stared at her as she drifted into wakefulness, blinking curiously. Kouyou then noticed that he had significantly more hair than when she had put him to bed and that he was larger.

He looked to be a toddler now.

Despite her surprise, Kouyou smiled softly and leaned over to ruffle his fiery locks, he squealed in delight at the small gesture, absolutely warming her heart.

Then she momentarily frowned, remembering that she would be leaving on a mission later in the day... a mission that little Chuuya's safety was not completely guaranteed in.

No matter how much she wanted to take him with her, she did not want him at risk. She would leave him at the port mafia headquarters, but she knew that the mafia wasn't the best place to raise a child...

Kouyou had a place in mind, no matter how much she despised having to leave Chuuya in the care of them.

"Wha' tha matter?" Chuuya asked curiously, struggling at properly forming the words.

"Nothing, are you ready to go?" Kouyou asked, during her thought process she had dressed herself and Chuuya. (there were toddler supplies in front of her door, meaning that they must have uncovered more information on Chuuya's state to know that he would start rapidly growing.)

"Uh-huh!" He nodded enthusiastically. Kouyou knew that most toddlers enjoyed their new mobility once they learned to walk, running everywhere, but Chuuya wasn't like that. Instead, he raised his arms out to her, jutting out his bottom lip to pout.

Without a second thought Kouyou scooped him up in her arms, he weighed next to nothing and was smaller than the average toddler, yet Chuuya was also a smaller than normal man so it was to be expected.

Kouyou didn't go to her boss for information, he wasn't any help, instead, she headed for the lab that was mostly vacant except for a few scientists and that crazy lemon bomber- Kajii- if she remembered his name correctly.

As soon as he noticed the two, he dropped his experiment in favor of plucking Chuuya from her arms to hold him up from his armpits to study him. Little Chuuya looked down curiously, making a questioning cooing noise.

"It was what I predicted" the man grinned a bit too wide to be considered sane. He discarded the toddler carelessly to the side, Kouyou quickly retrieving him from the table before he could shove any of the science equipment in his mouth.

"And what was that, may I ask?"

"Well I normally work with bombs, but poisons are fun to look at. But as it turns out, this wasn't a poison."

Kouyou raised an eyebrow when the maniac scientist stopped talking "care to elaborate?"

"Oh, right. Well, he was hit with this dart" Kajii tapped on a glass casing that held the weapon inside of it. "But darts can't do this amount of damage even if laced with poison, so I have come to a conclusion that this is an ability at work."

"So someone has the ability to turn people into... toddlers?" Kouyou kept a straight face when Chuuya reached to tug on her bangs, she carefully pried his fingers away, working through his iron grip. She decided to ignore Kajii's snickering when he finally let go, she bounced him around on her hip, making him squeal with laughter.

He was a lot happier as a child.

"Not exactly" the scientist continued "it is only a temporary thing, seeing as the other kids the black lizard found claimed that they were adults turned into children after they grew enough to talk clearly."

"So when is it estimated that he will be back to being twenty-two?" She asked, unconsciously running her fingers through red hair. She loved toddler Chuuya, but she would also appreciate the twenty-two-year-old executive to grow back soon so that he wasn't such an easy target. Any enemy of the port mafia could easily take advantage of the situation if he wasn't well guarded.

"Well it is different for everyone who is affected, but if he was a baby and now he is a toddler, I say he ages a few years a day give or take. But the growth is still unpredictable so expect the unexpected."

Kouyou pursed her lips, nodding at the explanation. It could be worse, she supposed.

Without a parting word, she swiftly exited the room. "Come on Chuuya, let's get some breakfast."

And after breakfast, Kouyou would pack a bag and give Chuuya away to the port mafia's enemies to keep him safe.

Oh, how she wished she didn't have a mission.

——

Dazai had foreseen his day to be a regular one with an abundance of laying around and doing nothing.

He was wrong.

It started off normal enough, Kunikida dragged him out of the agency's apartments, forcing him down onto his chair and watching as Dazai typed his 'work' into the computer. (It wasn't work, but rather a list of the suicide methods he hadn't tried yet.) but what Kunikida didn't know wouldn't hurt him.

He handed the rest of his work off to Atsushi, who took it without the bat of an eye and started jotting down reports. How nice of him.

Then came lunchtime, around where everything went wrong.

"We have a mission request, get up off your ass Dazai" Kunikida whacked him awake with his notebook from where he had been lounging on the couch. Dazai was tempted to burn that notebook, he wondered if his partner would loosen up without all of those ideals.

"Now?" Dazai whined, dragging himself from the couch "but it's my break~"

"Every moment is your 'break' come on, apparently this one is important."

Dazai grumbled as Kunikida led them to the meeting room. The blonde halted once he opened the door, tensing up to a defensive position. When Dazai peeked curiously over his shoulder, he found the reason.

Kouyou, port mafia executive, sat on the cushioned loveseat.

Dazai arched an eyebrow, pushing past his partner to get a closer look at the multiple bags at her feet. "I've never expected to see a port mafia executive in our agency, say, why are you here~"

The woman tilted her head, unimpressed. "We are under an alliance, are we not?"

"I suppose."

Kunikida seemed to have gotten over his shock, closing the door behind him as he marched into the room and sat ramrod straight on the opposite couch. "What's your business here?"

"As I stated, I have a job for you."

Now Dazai was interested, taking a seat next to Kunikida without making a fuss. "A job that you can't do? And what would that be?"

The executive reached down to gather the bags at her feet, revealing... children supplies? Dazai hated kids. "I need you to protect someone very important to me, as he has a target on his back and is vulnerable at the moment."

Kunikida opened his mouth, probably to force her to elaborate, when he was interrupted by a small noise coming from... her clothes?

The woman simply lifted an arm, and it was then that Dazai realized she had been holding something. Kouyou's colorful sleeve shifted to reveal a toddler.

Said toddler was rubbing at its eyes with clumsy hands, yawning widely. Then slowly the thing opened its big eyes to groggily look around. Kouyou simply smiled and helped the thing when it shimmied away, scooting to the floor.

Dazai and Kunikida both watched in shared silence as it got to its feet, sluggishly tripping over its tiny feet to get to them. And then his eyes fixated on Dazai's pant leg and....

Oh no.

A small pair of arms wrapped themselves around his knees and big azure eyes blinked up at him partnered with a stupidly happy grin.

Maybe he did like kids after all.

Then it clicked somewhere in the back of his mind just why those fiery locks looked so familiar...

Never mind he took it back. Babies are not cute at all.

Before Dazai could ask why Chuuya Nakahara was a child and why he was at his workplace, Kunikida interjected.

"We refuse to babysit your secret love child."

Both Dazai and Kouyou looked to Kunikida with varying levels of amusement for a full minute while little Chuuya just tugged more at Dazai's pant leg.

Dazai simply looked down at his ex-partner, studying him, when Chuuya jutted out his bottom lip, his eyes shimmering with tears.

Oh no. Oh no.

Not the puppy eyes.

Dazai was not one to be easily swayed, but as he looked down at the babified Chuuya...

Dazai sighed dramatically as he bent down to take the toddler and hold him above his head. The smile returned to Chuuya's face as he giggled. Ugh, kids. "Say, did the Chibi grow a few inches~"

Instead of a punch to the face, there was just happy gurgling noises.

Dazai pulled a disgusted face, lightly pinching at the other's cheek "Ew, I don't want your baby germs all over me." Despite his words, he didn't let the Chibi back down on the floor. (He didn't want him to go running around and terrorize the agency no matter how funny it may be.) letting the Chibi back down to sit contently in his lap.

If he was tiny before, then he was basically a molecule now. A tiny spec that Dazai would need a magnifying glass to not step on him.

Kunikida watched the scene with wide eyes, momentarily wiping his glasses to make sure he was seeing things right. Kouyou held a carefully blank expression, though there was a slight curl in her lip.

"As you may already tell, that is not my child." Kouyou clarified, shooting a seething look to Kunikida. "That is executive Nakahara Chuuya."

"W-wha!" Realization sunk its jagged claws into Kunikida as his head whipped over to the child in Dazai's arms. Chuuya simply poked his head from Dazai's tan coat to give him an unimpressed look that had Dazai snickering under his breath.

Kunikida ignored the blatant teasing in favor of looking back to the executive "how has this occurred and why do you need us to watch him?"

"He was hit with an ability that we are currently studying." Kouyou answered, "and from what we can tell he will grow a considerable amount every day until he is back to twenty-two years old."

Kunikida hummed thoughtfully "does he have his intelligence still intact?"

Kouyou shook her head "he has memories from when he was a child."

Dazai smirked, tugging lightly at a red strand of the chibis hair to perhaps annoy him in case he actually was stuck inside that tiny body with his adult thoughts. "It looks like I'm his favorite~"

Kunikida smartly decided to ignore the comment "and why do we need to watch him?"

"Well, the port mafia is not a good place for a child to grow up..." Kouyou's eyes briefly rested on Dazai before continuing "and it is dangerous. All of us have our missions and no one will be able to watch over him. We also concluded that there may be a target on his back, so we need bodyguards for him."

Kunikida nodded "... I suppose that makes sense. Any more information on the ability we should know?"

Kouyou pursed her lips, eyes not leaving the child who was currently fiddling with the buttons on Dazai's coat. "He will age sporadically. The other adults infected with it have grow significantly one day but not grown any the next. Eventually, he will return to normal, hopefully soon, but for now, we have no knowledge of the time frame."

Kunikida pinched the bridge of his nose as he thought over the plans, pushing away his oncoming headache. "I'm not completely sure if we are able to take this request on..."

"-No we can."

Kunikida gave Dazai a withering look "I never agreed upon this-"

"Oh Kunikida, but we have to take this job. I'll have opportunities to blackmail the Chibi"

Kouyou and little Chuuya watched the two argue, heads swiveling back and forth as Dazai begged and Kunikida hit him with his notebook.

"For the last time Dazai, no means no. This isn't just some stray pet you pick up, it is a living breathing human child. You cannot pick up any more orphans, even if only temporarily." Kunikida chided, bopping his partner over the head with each word. "None of us even have the time or capability to watch over him-"

Dazai then smirked deviously, pulling out his secret weapon. "But look at him!"

"No, Dazai."

"Pleeeaaassseee?" Dazai begged once more, Chuuya seemed to have caught onto the game because he too, shot an identical pleading look.

Perfect, Dazai could see the blondes resolve slowly crumbling. Just one last push.

"Isn't the Chibi such a well-behaved child?" Dazai asked, pinching Chuuya's button nose.

Chuuya only nodded in agreement, giving Kunikida a grin, showcasing his lack of teeth. "We-well-b-behaved!" He repeated, not letting his stumbling over the words sway him.

Kunikida's bottom lip trembled as he looked away, sealing his doomed fate and Dazai's victory. "Fine, you may keep him."

Dazai cheered, Chuuya made similar noises not really understanding the context but still being happy.

"But! You must watch him and feed him and bathe him. He is your responsibility, don't let him pee anywhere but the toilet."

Dazai snorted, pulling at Chuuya's hair once more to annoy him. "He's basically a dog, he has always been my sheepdog but this is wonderful!"

Chuuya looked up at Dazai after whacking his hand away from his hair, giving him a questioning glance. "Arf?"

Dazai clapped his hands encouragingly "wonderful! Now roll over! Do you think he learns tricks Kunikida?"

Instead of answering the question, the blonde simply exited the room with Kouyou, grumbling under his breath. "Do what you want, I cannot wait until Nakahara returns to his former glory so that I can get a drink with him and talk shit about you."

Dazai then looked back down when Chuuya tugged harshly on his shirt. "What is it Chibi?"

Chuuya stared up at him blankly "dada?"

An eventful day indeed.
