The Rough Night
"All right, she's out." Riley sighed as she shut the door to Ben's room, where Emma slept. "There's nothing cuter than a sleeping baby." Danny and Tucker nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, it's when they're awake you gotta watch your back." Danny told her.
"Yeah, they suck you in with their cuteness and then once they got you...bam! Fluids are flying everywhere." Tucker added, just as Ben and Brooke came in arguing.
"No! Ben, no!" Brooke shouted at him, holding her blonde wig in her hand, a huge floppy hat on her head. "I am not babysitting Emma for you while you go play with crab cake Chloe! Have you not seen my hair!?" She pulled off the hat, and the others gasped when they saw her hair. Her usually straight, silky broken hair was now mangled, like she walked into a barber shop and asked the barber if he was suicidal and wanted to leave with one last FUCK YOU. It stuck out in weird places, and looked like the barber had no scissors and just tried to chew it off.
"Brooke! What happened to your hair?" Riley asked, coming over. Brooke threw her wig at Ben.
"Oh, I'll tell you what happened! That stupid wig that I bought, to help Ben!" Ben's face turned red. "I went to the cheapest store I could find to get a wig to pretend to be Emma's mom, and it turned out the guy made his own wigs with stolen hair from the salon next door and some super glue! And my wig, wasn't done drying! So, Ben used scissors to cut it out, and now my hair looks like a raccoon nested in it!" Ben threw up his arms.
"Come on! At least I bought you the hat to cover it up!" Brooke picked up the horrible dark green hat and shoved it back on her head.
"Good! Because now, I'm going to get a haircut! And...!" She stomped over, pulled his credit card out of his pocket, and waved it in the air. "I am taking this with me to pay for it! Goodnight, Ben!" The she left, slamming the door shut, and Emma began crying in the other room. Riley groaned.
"Ugh! We just got her down!" She glared at Ben. "Thanks a lot, Ben! You just had to make Brooke mad!" Then she hurried off to get the baby and calm her down. Meanwhile, Ben looked to Danny and Tucker.
"Do you think either of them will still watch Emma for me tonight?" Danny rolled his eyes, and Tucker crossed his arms.
"So, why do you need to change the plan we all so carefully crafted this morning?" Tucker asked him, as Riley came back in.
"I stuck her pacifier in. She should be out again in no time." Ben clapped hisnhands together, grinning.
Okay, uh, this is perfect. So a little change of plans." They all three narrowed their eyes at him. "I know it was my turn with Emma tonight, but crab cake Chloe just invited me over to get to know each other a little better, if you know what I mean." The three of them exchanged looks, then shrugged.
"Well, you're on your own tonight." Riley told him, picking up her purse from the couch.
"Tough break, dad. I hope she likes kids." Danny told him, patting his back. Ben, however, was confused.
"So obviously you don't know what I mean. Wait, where are you going? Did you all miss the part where she said she wants to get to know me better?" Riley shook her head for all three of them.
"No. But you obviously missed the part where we don't care." Tucker nodded in agreement.
"And also the part where I had to throw out my pants." Ben clapped his hands together, begging.
"Please, guys? I'll be quick." Then he reconsidered. "Well, not that quick."
"Well, if someone hadn't already committed me to a fun-filled evening of helping his mother with her will..." Riley told him sarcastically, and Ben smiled goodheartedly.
"Sorry about that. So probably not a good time to ask for another favor. But if you could try to wedge in a word or two about how great I'm doing with Emma, you know, how responsible I am?" Riley's eyebrows rose.
"So you want me to lie?" Ben sighed, his smile falling.
"Look, you're right. I said I'll figure this out and I will. I promise." He told them all as they headed into the hall and Riley pressed the but to for the elevator.
"Good man." The elevator dinged, and Riley entered it, but Ben stopped Danny and Tucker.
"But you two, not so fast." Both men slumped.
"You just said you were gonna figure it out." Danny fussed.
"And that's what I'm doing." Ben told him, and they both raised their eyebrows. "Come on, guys. I've been working on Chloe for, like, five weeks."
"Okay, look, you can probably tell from the extra hair product and the fact that the big guy showered, that we have plans." Tucker told him pointedly.
"Sorry, little bro. Work this one out on your own." Danny told him, and Ben raised his eyebrows.
"I can't believe you're gonna make me do it. I'm invoking the bro code." Tucker crossed his arms.
"Are you serious?" Ben nodded.
"June 21st, 2010, who covered for you when Vanessa caught you flirting with that unnaturally enhanced waitress, huh?" Tucker shuffled his feet. "Senior year, who told Jessica Feltshank that you were sick in bed when, in fact, you were having carnal knowledge of her sister in our tree house?" Danny's ears turned pink. "Answer to both? I did." Tucker groaned.
"Fine. Just go." Ben pumped his arms as the elevator came back up.
"Yes! Don't wait up." He dove into the elevator. "And remember, she needs a second bottle around 10:00." And Ben was gone.
"I hate that code." Tucker grumbled.
"I loved that tree house." Danny reminisced.

"There you are, Brooke!" Sherry, Brooke's salon barber finally said. "It took me a while, but I finally fixed your hair! Whaddya think?" Brooke looked in the mirror at her new bob cut, smiling.
"Looks nice! And, thanks so much, Sherry! I know that wasn't an easy fix!" Sherry waved it away.
"Don't mention it! I'm happy to fix it!" That was when Brooke saw that it was almost eight o' clock.
"Shoot! I'd better call Ben, make sure he's doing alright with Emma." Then she hurried outside after paying and called Ben.
"Hey, Brooke!" He grumbled over the phone. "I'm kind of on a date here. With Chloe from the bar!"
"A date!?" She exclaimed. "Where's Emma?"
"Don't worry! Danny and Tucker have her! She's fine!" Brooke groaned, then hung up on Ben to call Danny.
"Hey, Danny! Just called to see how Emma was doing!"
"Oh, she's fine!" Danny shouted into the phone, and Brooke could hear loud music playing in the background.
"Danny. Where is Emma?" She asked, slowly losing her temper.
"I left her asleep with Tucker! She's fine!" Danny said again, and Brooke immediately called Tucker.
"Tucker! I swear to god you better have Emma and-" she heard a bowling ball hit some pins. "ARE YOU BOWLING!?" She screamed into the phone. Without waiting for an answer, Brooke hung up on him, ran to her car, and drove as fast as she could to Ben's apartment, where she found Riley and Bonnie about to go inside!
"Oh, heeyyy, Mrs. Wheeler! What are you doing here?" Bonnie put her hands on her hips, already suspicious.
"Okay, since when have you ever called me Mrs. Wheeler? You've refused to call me anything but Bonnie since I dropped a waffle iron on your toe." Brooke shrugged.
"Just, thought I should today! Anyway, if you're here to check on the guys, no worries! They're all okay, Emma's asleep, so why don't we hit the road!" She tried pushing Riley and Bonnie back towards the elevator, but Bonnie pushed past her and entered the apartment.
'Hello? Is anyone here?" She called. Silence greeted her. "Ben? Danny? The other one?" Brooke entered the apartment, looking sheepish. "Oh, this is gonna be the mother of all "I told you so"s."

"Is everything okay?" Chloe asked Ben, who was acting fidgety.
"I can't stop thinking about Emma." He admitted, and Chloe groaned.
"Of course. Married, gay, commitment issues... it's always something." She grumbled, and Ben quickly shook his head.
"No no, it's not that. Emma's my daughter. I have a daughter. She was that little girl at the bar today." He sighed. 'Look, I know I should have told you. I guess I was just afraid that I wouldn't be here doing this with you now if I had." Chloe patted his knee affectionately.
"Hey, it's okay. It's actually another thing for the plus column." Ben looked up.
"Really?" He asked as she leaned in.
"Really." Then she went in to kiss him, when he pulled out his phone, turning away.
"Do you want to see her picture?" Chloe pulled away away, slightly annoyed, but chuckled.
"Sure." Ben opened his phone, and began to scroll through the many pictures he had of Emma already.
'I think she rolled over for the first time this morning." He chuckled, then said, "You know, maybe I'll call and check in and then I'll be fine." Just as Brooke had before, he called Danny first, and immediately heard the loud music playing in the background. "Danny, where are you?" He demanded.
'Hey, man. I just met a couple of my new teammates out for a drink." He told Ben.
"Where's Emma?" Ben demanded.
"Oh, she's totally conked out. Tucker has it covered." He said laughing.
"I thought you were-" Ben groaned. "Never mind. Two seconds." Then he called Tucker. "Hey, Tuck, I was just-" bowling pins clattered in the backgroumd. "Are you bowling? Where's Emma!?"
"Man! You and Brooke today, man!" Tucker muttered. "I already told Brooke that Danny's got this covered." Ben's eyes went wide.
"Then Brooke must have called Danny too, which means..." He finally dialed Brooke's number. "Brooke, please tell me you're with Emma."
"Ben." She growled. "I am with, your mother. Get home, to your child, now." And the line went dead, making Ben panic.
"Oh. I gotta go." And he was out the door faster than poor Chloe could blink.

"Emma, it's okay, daddy's here." Ben dashed into his apartment and ran into his room, only to find Emma gone! "Oh my God, Emma, where are you? Oh my God. No no no. This can't be happening. Oh my God. " Ben nearly began crying, already pulling out his phone to call the police.
"Looking for someone?" That was when Bonnie walked in, carrying Emma, with Brooke and Riley trailing her. But Ben only had eyes for his daughter.
"Emma. Thank God you're okay. I am so so sorry." He threw his phone to the couch, taking Emma from Bonnie and holding her close. "I thought I might never see you again. I never want you out of my sight, ever. Okay? I'm the worst father in the world." Bonnie watched her son, the son who messed too many times to count, as he held his baby, so glad that she was in his arms, safe and sound.
"Riley, can you take Emma?" She asked, and Riley went over pried Emma away from Ben.
"Come here, baby." Ben threw up his arms, looking at Bonnie dejectedly.
"I'm ready. Let me have it. But just know that nothing you can say to me can be any worse than what I'm already saying to myself." But instead of yelling, Bonnie sniffled.
"Actually, Ben. All I wanted to say is that I'm proud of you." Ben furrowed his eyebrows, confused.
"Did you miss the part where my baby got left alone?" Bonnie looked to the three, then threw up her hands.
"I once left Danny at a Wal-Mart when he was two."Riley became concerned at once.
"What happened?" Brooke gave her a look.
"Well, obviously we never saw Danny again."
"My point..." Bonnie interrupted, turning back to Ben. "I made mistakes. But that feeling? That gut-wrenching, heart-stopping, if-anything- happens-to-my-child- I-think-I-will-die feeling, what you just had, that? That is what let's you know that you're a parent. And, honey, I guarantee that you will do anything to make sure that you never feel that again. So congratulations, now you're a dad. And I think you're gonna be a pretty great one." Ben shrugged, peering over her shoulder at Emma, as if she was going to vanish at once.
"But I don't know what I'm doing. I know I said I got this, but I just so don't got this."
"Emma!" That was when Danny and Tucker came running in.
"Well, if it isn't-" Ben sighed. "...me standing here, talking to myself."
"Is she all right?" Tucker asked they both fell to their knees in front of Riley and Emma. Riley rolled her eyes.
"She's got three boys fawning over her. Works for most girls." Brooke shrugged.
"Eh..."
"Rucker." Bonnie threatened her with her last name, and Brooke shut up at once.
"Emma, I am so sorry." Danny told her.
"This will never happen again." Tucker added.
"Guys, it's all right. We all make mistakes. But I think we could definitely use some help." He looked to Bonnie. "I need you, mom." Bonnie pumped her fists.
"Wait for it... I told you so." Then, just as she was leaving, she turned back to Brooke. "By the way, Brooke, is that a new haircut?" Brooke self consciously felt her new short hair, and shook her head.
"Nope!"
