Chapter 59 - Lies

"What are we going to do about Jack?" Shawn whispered to me as the five of us made our way into the restaurant.

"I feel like my mom won't believe me if I straight out tell her what he did. Cause she may just think I don't approve or something and am making up excuses." I replied and sighed.

"What are you two talking about?" Bailey cut in between us.

"Oh, nothing. We were trying to decide how we were going to reveal the baby's name to you guys." I said.

"Oo you finally chose a name!!"

Shawn nodded and grinned, "After what feels like a million months."

"Yay! I can't wait to hear it later!"

We were led to our seats after my mom gave the hostess her name. Our table was in a secluded area off on the patio. I sat in between Shawn and Bailey, and my mom and Jack sat across from us.

"How has tour been treating you Shawn?" My mom asked him.

"It's been great! Your daughter is such a huge help to me."

"That's great to hear." She turned her attention to me, "And how have you been sweetie?"

"I've been pretty good. I had lunch with Dad-"

"I don't want to hear about that man and his hoe of a fiancée."

"Okay, sorry." I put my hands up defensively. I didn't like talking about them, so I'm glad we were on the same page.

The waiter took our drink order and came back with our beverages.

"So Jack," I smiled at him. "You look like you exercise. Done any of that lately?"

I felt Shawn kick my leg under the table, but I ignored him.

Jack seemed to have a faint idea of where I was going with this, but played it off well. "I have a gym membership and I do work out often."

"I feel like you'd be a good P.E. teacher."

Both he and Shawn choked on their waters and spend the next few seconds coughing and trying to breathe. Bailey and my mom stared at them for a while until they regained their composure.

"Teaching has never really been something I'm in to."

"Ah I see." I crossed my arms.

Shawn excused himself from the table and went over to the restrooms. Bailey began talking about everything she's done so far this summer and I felt my phone vibrate.

Shawn- What was that?!

Me- I don't know what you're talking about

Shawn- What happened to playing it cool?

Me- I never agreed to that

Shawn- Please stop bringing up the subject until you can discuss this with him privately

Me- Fine

I put my phone down and Shawn came back from the restroom a few minutes later. The waiter took our food order and the five of us were left alone with our thoughts.

Shawn finally broke the silence. "So Lily and I have decided on our daughter's name."

My mom smiled and Bailey clapped her hands. "Tell me! I wanna know if my niece has a good name."

I glared at my sister and rolled my eyes. "Her name is..."

Shawn and I looked at each other and spoke in unison. "Darcy Jade Mendes."

Bailey grinned, "I like that name. Good job!"

"We do too, obviously." Shawn chuckled.

"Such a lovely name." My mom agreed.

"Thanks." I squeezed Shawn's hand and smiled.

We spent the rest of the meal chatting about tour life and various music industry things. Minus being nervous about Jack, I had a really fun time. There was such a stark difference between the dynamic with my dad, compared to my mom.

As we were leaving, Shawn took selfies with two girls. Bailey was so excited that they recognized her as my sister.

We drove back to the hotel and everyone got settled back into their rooms. I walked down to the ice machine to refill our bucket and ran into Jack on the way back. I guess he had the same idea about the ice.

"Oh, didn't see you there." He smiled at me.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Always." He leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.

I took a deep breath. "Why? Why all the lies? And how are you not in jail?"

Jack stared at me for a moment before answering. "I want to start fresh. And Faye didn't testify against me. Plus legally you were a consenting adult. And we didn't do anything more than kiss."

The kiss. Teddy had footage of that!

A plan started forming in my head. Hopefully he kept the footage on his phone, or at least his email. If this didn't work, nothing will.

And the nerve of this man to say he wants a fresh start. If he really did, he would choose someone else. Not the mom of the student he made out with in his office.

"Well I better get back to my room. I'll see you around."

He grabbed my arm before I could leave. "Don't say anything about my history."

"She deserves to know the truth and not be lied to anymore."

"But how would she feel if she found out her own daughter was a willing participant? Things could get messy."

Was he threatening me?!?!

"Look Jack. What happened was wrong. But I did it to catch you in the act. As much as I dislike Faye, she was underage and who knows who else you were giving it to."

"And why would your mother believe you?"

"Because I have proof." My heart was racing and I was extremely nervous. This definitely wasn't good for the baby, it could put me into labor.

An angry glint flashed through his eyes. "If you share anything, you'll regret it."

I glared at him and yanked my arm out of his grasp. There was only one person I felt safe with right now, and that was Shawn. I sped back to our room and dead bolted the door behind me.

Shawn was laying on the bed but sat up when he saw how white my face was. "What's wrong?"

"Jack just threatened me." I put a hand to my forehead and breathed slowly.

"Are you serious?! I'll kill him!!"

"Yeah, we were talking about the whole situation. Apparently he wants a fresh start, but he obviously knew he was dating my mom. I'm just scared he may try to do something to me or Bailey."

"I swear on my life that I'll protect you two."

"Thank you Sha-" A dull pain stopped me from saying anything more.

"Are you okay?"

"I think so."

I felt a pop and a warm, watery liquid started dripping down my leg.

"Shawn..... my water just broke."

His face changed from shock to concern. "What?? You're not due for another three and a half weeks!"

"I know. All this stress must have caused an early onset. Plus I was starting to get false contractions."

"Toronto is about a 24 hour drive, and you can't possibly fly, the airport won't allow it."

"We're gonna have to have the baby here in America."

"I'm gonna get your mom."

"Shawn," my voice quivered. "I'm scared."

"Don't worry. You've got this, I believe in you. And I'll be right by your side, I promise."
