Chapter 19 - News and Secrets

"Excuse me?" I was completely shocked.

"Yes! I can refer you to a good doctor if you'd like."

"Um," I was in a daze, "Yeah that would be great. Thank you."

The doctor nodded and wrote a name down. I took the paper and walked out. My legs were really shaky.

"Hey! Are you okay? You look white as a ghost." Vivian ran up to me.

"Yes, I'm fine. We need to see another doctor, today if possible."

"Oh, yeah of course!"

"Thank you for everything." I gave her a weak smile.

We walked out of the ER and I called the office the doctor gave me. Luckily they took walk-ins so we drive straight there.

"Would you mind waiting in the car?" I asked Vivian.

"Oh, not at all," she smiled at me.

"Thanks," I was still all shaky as I got out of the car.

"See you after!"

"Okay."  Summing up all my courage, I walked towards the menacing building, unsure of my future.

Luckily the first door I came upon was the correct office.  I pushed the door open and walked up to the receptionist.

"Hi, I just found out I'm pregnant and I don't know where to go from here.  I'm from Canada but on vacation."

"Okay, please fill out these forms and one of our doctors will take good care of you."

I took the stack of papers she handed me and sat down in one of the chairs.  I filled out all the information to the best of my knowledge and carried them back to the desk.

Within a few minutes, a nurse called my name.  She took my height, weight, blood pressure and all the other information nurses take.  Then she led me to one of the examination rooms.

"I have to ask, is the father in the picture?"

"Oh, um, I don't know.  It was a one time thing.  We're just best friends."

"Ah I see, okay. Do you know an approximate date of conception?"

"My birthday, November 23rd."

"Birthday sex, that's common among teens."

I blushed and stared at the floor. "So what's the plan?"

"Well, I'm going to draw some blood to test your levels of hCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone that will help us determine exactly how far along you are and set an approximate due date, then I'm going to do an ultrasound and see how things are going."

"Sounds like a plan."  I laid down on the examination bed.

The ultrasound was uncomfortable, I had particular taste when it came to what was stuck up certain places. The nurse showed me the screen, and my heart melted. There was a little human inside of me.

I teared up and smiled. Shawn and I created this person. No matter what the future holds, I'm going to love this child with every fiber of my being. Even though there wasn't much developed yet, I felt a deep connection.

"Thank you."  I grasped the nurse's hand, "This means more to me than you'll ever know."

"You are absolutely welcome."  She smiled at me and printed the ultrasound pictures.  "I'll put these in an envelope for you."

She walked over to one of the drawers, put the pictures in the envelope, and gave them to me. The doctor knocked on the door and came in.

"Hello, I'm Doctor Gomez." He introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Lily Ryder."

"I'm here to go over your hCG test results."

"Wow, that was fast."

"Yes, we have a testing center here in the office.  Based on the levels of hCG in both your blood and urine, you are 3 weeks pregnant.  So your due date is August 23rd."

That was the day before Shawn's concert in Toronto. At least I'll be home for the birth. My family was going to kill me though. I hope somehow they'll be able to understand.

"Thank you Doctor." I nodded and smiled.

"Anytime," he waved his hand and grinned. "If you need anything give our office a call."

"Will do." I gathered my stuff and hopped off the bed.

The nurse guided me out and helped arrange for my files to be sent to my doctor back home.  After that was all taken care of, I strolled back out to Vivian waiting for me.

"Well you look happy.  What happened in there?"  She hugged me.

"Oh nothing," I lied.  "They found out what was causing the nausea."

"And?"

"Turns out it was acid reflux. Apparently it causes nausea."

"Ah I see." She seemed a tad bit skeptical, but dropped the subject.

"They gave me some ginger tablets to take so I should be mostly okay. I'm not contagious."

"Awesome, I'll take you back to the hotel for the good news."

We drove back in silence. I was feeling much better and very happy. Shawn was in the lobby taking pictures with a few fans. He saw me and waved. I winked at him and walked towards the elevator.

He caught up to me right as the doors began to close. "Got some room in there for one more?"

"Always Mendes," I giggled.

What came next was one of the hottest make out sessions on every level. His hands were everywhere all at once. He kissed down my neck, leaving wet spots. I moaned and ran my fingers through his hair.

We didn't notice the elevator stopped to pick up a group of people before it was too late.

"Having fun?" A man crossed his arms.

"Yes sir." Shawn stood up straight and combed through his hair. My face turned so red you might have thought I had a sunburn. I coughed and covered my neck with my hair.

The family stepped into the elevator with us. An awkward silence fall on everyone as the elevator continued to rise. It stopped at our floor and we ran out.

"Well that was interesting," Shawn chuckled.

"HA! Yeah. I wonder if they're coming to the concert."

"Is it bad to say I hope not?"

"It's understandable." I smirked, "And I mean, it's kind of outlandish to go throwing yourself at someone. Especially when they're not your girlfriend. People might start to wonder."

"Oh ha ha very funny Lily. It was a mutual make out." He rolled his eyes.

"I'm teasing," I planted a sweet kiss on his lips.

"And as for not having a girlfriend..." He trailed off.

"What?"

"Oh nothing.  You'll see later."  It was his turn to smirk.

"Alright mister, I'll play your game."

"By the way, what did the doctor say?"

"I have acid reflux, nothing contagious, lucky for you."

"What's that suppose to mean?"

"We've been kissing and all up in each other's faces."

"Right right." He held me close. "Oh, my mom called while you were gone and wants to know what you want for Christmas."

"I don't know haha. I'll have to think about it. But your mom doesn't need to get me anything, you're present enough."

"I'll try to tell her that."

"What do you want?"

"You, and no more jet lag," he snickered.

"You're sweet."

"Right back at ya."

Josiah jogged up behind us, "I gotta get a picture of you guys."

We smiled and hugged each other tightly while he snapped the shot. "That looks awesome. Thank you guys! Is it okay to post?"

"Yes definitely!"

"Cool!  See you guys at the venue later!"

"Speaking of that, Lily, we should probably get going."  Shawn suggested.

"Okie dokie.  I still have to decide what you're gonna wear."

"I trust you, just as long as it's not a clown suit."

"That would actually be really funny."

"No it wouldn't."

I smiled mischievously and held his hand.  We quietly hopped on the bus to the venue.  It was within walking distance, but the chance of getting ambushed was high.

When we got there, some fans were already starting to line up.  This was our last show before flying back home for Christmas, and I wanted to make it count.
