Chapter 17- Savoring Precious Moments
The blue sky was trying to peek its way into our hotel room. The events of the previous night still played fresh in my mind and I smiled to myself. Shawn lay sleeping curled up next to me, his breathing even.
I pulled the covers up around me and turned towards him. He looked so peaceful, angelic almost.
You have to stop thinking like that Lily. You guys were just caught up in the moment. It's not like he plans to date you or anything like that.
I sighed and got close to him. Leaning in, I spoke barely above a whisper.
"I know I may be just one of them amongst the millions and trillions. I know I may not be significant enough to stand out. But I'm not giving up on that hope. That little tiny hope that someday, you'll realize it's been me all along."
I stroked his curly head and wiped a tear from the corner of my eye. He stirred ever so slightly under my touch. Not wanting to wake him, I cautiously reached for my phone. Opening the camera, I took a few pictures of his sleeping persona.
He seemed to sense something, because his eyelids fluttered open. "Good morning darling."
"Good morning Shawn." I kissed his cheek, wanting to savor the last few moments of peace. This was wrong, I knew it and Shawn knew it too.
Of course I had to ask the stupidest question ever, "How did you sleep?"
Shawn chuckled and sat up, "Well, minus half the night, really good. What about you?"
"Same here. I wish I could stay here forever."
"That would be nice," he looked at the clock, "But I got a show in eight hours hun."
If you had told me six months ago that I would be working with the Shawn Mendes, touring the world, I would have laughed in your face and called you crazy.
We both slid out of bed and put some clothes on to go downstairs and have breakfast. I was really glad the hotel we were staying at offered free meals.
The air was crisp as we made our way down to the aromatic food waiting for us.
"Glad you guys could finally join us." Andrew commented.
"Yeah, we uh, we had a long night." Shawn cleared his throat as Andrew choked on his coffee.
I snickered and slid into an empty seat, "Where are the others?"
"Mike took the boys to start warming up." Andrew replied.
Breakfast in Dublin was delicious. I've never tasted better chocolate chip scones than in Ireland. And their lemon curd, oh don't get me started, it's to die for.
I start to devour my food as some girls came running up to our table. "Omg Shawn! Can we get a picture?"
Shawn wiped his mouth and smiled, "Of course!"
He posed with the girls and snapped a few photos. One of the girls broke down and started crying.
"It's ok hun, please don't cry." He tried to comfort her.
"You're amazing and I love you so much Shawn, you're my world," she choked out.
"Thank you so much, I love you too," he hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her head.
When her friend pulled her away and they both left, I stared at Shawn, "Your fans love you so much. Being in that position for years and then switching to working with you, it really makes me appreciate everything."
He grabbed my hand and kissed it, "You mean the world to me."
My cheeks flushed and I looked down at my plate before answering, "You're the keeper of my heart."
Andrew shuffled in his seat, "Um I'm going to get more coffee." He stood up and quickly walked away.
Shawn's eyes sparkled and he bit his lip.
Shawn's POV:
I bit my lip and looked into Lily's eyes. There weren't really any people around. She had a questioning look in her eyes, I wonder if she knew what I was thinking.
Out of impulse, I closed the distance between us and our lips collided together. Her soft lips were sweet against mine. All the memories of the previous night were still fresh in my mind.
I felt her smile against my lips and I cupped her face in my hands. In a voice barely above a whisper, I murmured, "I love you."
Lily's POV:
I smiled against his lips and he gently cupped my face with his hands. I felt his lips vibrate like he was saying something, but I never caught what it was.
When we finally drew back to take a breath of air, our faces were flushed and we smiled lovingly at each other. I didn't want this moment to end. He took me completely by surprise when he kissed me.
"We should probably go, soundcheck is in a few hours." Shawn ran a hand through his hair.
"Right, ok," I tried to hide the slight disappointment that was in my eyes.
He took my hand in his and we walked toward the parking structure.
•••
When we arrived at the arena, there were already at least three hundred girls waiting outside. They probably saw Shawn in our car, because they all started running after us.
As we pulled up to a stop, a flood of girls tried to come bolting towards the car. Security guards blocked the way when we opened the car door and stepped outside. The screams of the girls were deafening.
Shawn waved at them and walked inside the building. I went around to the back of the van and grabbed my bags of supplies. I smiled at the girls and made my way inside as well.
The sight that greeted me took my breath away. The venue that Shawn was playing was huge! I'll never get used to seeing the thousands of seats and large stage. My blood started rushing from all the excitement.
I saw Shawn running on stage to join his band. The amount of energy that guy had never ceased to amaze me. His passion for music and love for his fans was really inspiring.
I had about two hours to get things set out for Shawn. Since he lives in black, I thought today I'd shake it up a bit. Once I found his dressing room among the maze of hallways, I laid out an assortment of different color shirts.
Thumbing through them, I decided on pinkish crewneck under a black jacket. I knew he would say something about the color choices, but it was going to be good to see him in something other than all black.
I grabbed the bottle of Shawn Signature from the inside zipper pocket of his back and lightly misted his clothes. At least thanks to me he'll look and smell good.
Vivian came into the room and chuckled, "Nice choice, he's not wearing all black for once in his life."
"Yeah, I had to shake it up a bit. You know, add some color to his world." I flashed a smile and waved some of Shawn's perfume all through the air.
"Ok ok, now we'll wreak like him too," she waved her arms around and coughed.
"At least him when he smells nice."
"True, and we've all smelled him when he doesn't."
We both burst out laughing. Vivian was such an awesome friend to have. Even though she was 15 years older than me, everyone who was around her knew that she was forever young at heart.
A knock sounded outside on the wooden door. I went over to it and opened the red door. Josiah was standing on the other side with his camera around his neck. "Have you picked out Shawn's clothes yet?"
"Yep, I did something a little different, so you have a slightly varied color scheme to work with tonight." I lead him over to where Shawn's clothes were laying.
He examined them against the different samples of lighting that was going to be used in tonight's show. "This will look great with the lighting. Great job as usual Lily."
"Thanks Josiah. Oh, and would you recommend the black or the blue with red and white guitar strap to go with the colors?"
"Ummm, it's up to you, but I would say the blue strap."
"Ok sounds good, thank you."
He nodded and closed the door behind him. I switched out Shawn's guitar strap and adjusted it to the right size. Official soundcheck was in three hours.
Here we go again, another show with another amazing performance.
