6. All You Can Eat

Ava, Rai, and Seol sat at the all you can eat pancake house after they left the police station. Upon entering, they took a booth at the very back where they could talk undisturbed. Ava and Rai were crammed on one side of the red booth while Seol sat across from them, happily eating the pancakes and bacon before him as if he hadn't eaten for several weeks. Ava and Rai kept exchanging glances with each other as Seol happily ate.

"This is so good...I haven't been here since I was twelve..." said Seol between swallows. "Before you and Dad...well, anyway...I see that it has always been this good..."

Seol swallowed and reached forward to grab the glass of orange juice in front of him, beginning to guzzle it down as Ava looked over at Rai.

'You're right,' she mouthed. 'He looks like Jungkook.'

"Auntie Ava, you're not very good at being sneaky," said Seol with a small chuckle, casting his eyes up for a second to look at her. "That hasn't changed over the years."

He grabbed up a strip of bacon, chewing on it as he looked at the two of them. The tears from the police station were long gone. He now seemed like the happiest fourteen-year-old alive.

"So your name is Jeon Seol?" asked Ava.

"Yes," he said.

"And your mother?"

"Is your best friend and is sitting right next to you," said Seol as he nodded his head towards Rai.

"And your father?"

Rai felt herself hold her breath as she looked at Seol. She hadn't actually yet heard him say who his father was and had been making assumptions this whole time. A small smile overtook Seol's face as a twinkle appeared in his eyes.

"My father is Jeon Jungkook," said Seol, "But I also know you already know that. I remember mom telling me what huge fans you both were of my father before they met."

Ava looked over at Rai and Rai looked back over at her in return.

"Are you two doing your mind meld thing again that you claim you do at times?" asked Seol as he finished the bacon strip in his hands, licking his finger tips before wiping them on the napkin and going back to grab another pancake off the stack.

"I have some more questions for you Seol," said Ava.

"Alright, Auntie," said Seol as he ate. "What's up?"

The way the boy was so casual about addressing her as 'auntie' unnerved her a bit as she cleared her throat, keeping her hands folded together in front of her as she stared at the young man across from her.

"Were you hired by someone to play a trick on Rai? Like her ex perhaps?"

"No silly," said Seol with a chuckle.

"Then why are you here right now?"

"It's a long story," said Seol, "But I can shorten it the best I can."

He paused in his eating to fish into his pocket for the watch, pulling it out and setting it on the table.

"That watch brought me here. It's my dad's."

Ava immediately snatched it up as Seol chuckled and went back to eating his pancakes. Rai looked over as Ava examined the watch to see if there was some sort of distinguishing feature that would show it was Jungkook's. Of course no such thing was present. Rai held out a hand for it as Ava handed it over. She couldn't tell if Ava was believing Seol or not. All she could tell was that she was becoming smitten by the child.

"How did it bring you here?" asked Rai.

"I modified it so it could travel through time, though..." Seol swallowed what was in his mouth before he continued, "It took me a while to do it, and I didn't know it'd actually work. I wanted it to though to fix...well, you and Dad."

"What's wrong with your Dad and I?" asked Rai.

"You're getting a divorce," said Seol blandly as he half stabbed at a piece of his food before setting the fork down with a sigh.

Ava reached over a hand to slap Rai on the back of the head to both Rai and Seol's surprise.

"OW! Ava, what was that for?"

"You got to marry Jungkook and you're divorcing him?!"

"Are you seriously believing this Miss You-Must-Be-Overstressed?"

"Hey! I'm just allowing myself to indulge in the fantasy for a while."

"Geezum, you two really do act like sisters," said Seol with a shake of his head.

That brought the two of them out of the small quarrel they had gotten themselves into as they looked over at him.

"You two always acted like this in the future too. It was fun to watch the two of you fake bicker back and forth. Dad thought it funny too."

He paused for a moment before settling back in the booth and looking at the two of them.

"Auntie Ava. Mom. I know you don't believe me. I mean, I guess I'd have a hard time too if I were in your shoes. I'm sorry I wasn't more tactful about it. Uncle Jimin always told me I lacked tact. I just...I don't want my family to be broken. I want it whole. I thought that I could fix it by coming back to the past. I never dreamed it would work, nor that it would take me so far back in time..."

Rai sighed. Seol sounded so honest even though he also sounded crazy at the same time. She couldn't abandon Seol no matter how insane it sounded.

"Here's what we're going to do," said Rai. "We're going to go get a DNA test done, and track down your parents that way. Until then, you can stay with me at my apartment."

"I'll sleep over at your place too, Rai," said Ava. "I'm not having you figure this all out on your own."

Seol smiled softly at that, nodding his head.

"Whatever I can do to get you to believe me, I will do it," said Seol. "I want my family to be whole again."
