45. Goodbye For Now

After the successful comeback concert the previous night, all the boys wanted to get together to celebrate. They not only wanted to celebrate the concert, but they were going to use this get together as a way to say goodbye to Seol before he headed back home to the future. Jin was waiting with Ava in the line at the pancake house for their order; his cell phone making pinging noises the entire time.

"My phone is still blowing up from the concert," said Jin as he stood beside Ava.

"You do know you can silence it. I can even do it for you if you want."

Jin chuckled, adjusting the mask over his face to make sure his mouth was still covered as he handed his phone over to Ava.

"Wait...I probably shouldn't have done that considering what you did last time you had my phone."

Ava rolled her eyes as she tried to adjust the volume on his phone.

"For that, I should just drown it in a cup of orange juice or something," said Ava as Jin chuckled beside her.

Ava had a hard enough time wrapping her mind around Rai and Jungkook being a couple. So she was having an even harder time fully comprehending that she was dating Jin and that they too had a successful future to look forward to. Neither Seol or Jungkook would tell her though if she had any children with Jin, but they both gave her looks that suggested that would eventually happen.

"You break another phone of mine, you're paying for the next one," said Jin as he took his now silenced phone back. "My phone is blowing up thanks to your best friend anyway. There are so many theories rounding the internet about Rai and Jungkook and how they met. Not to mention the theories about Seol and Jungkook. People think they are the same person, and are wondering why he wore a mask and looked younger for one part of the concert, and went maskless during his serenade to Rai."

"That's not my mess to clean up," said Ava as they arrived at the counter. She told the person at the counter the name the order was under; watching them scurry off out back.

"Wait until people hear about us," said Jin suddenly, throwing Ava off completely as she turned to look at him. She noticed a wily gleam in his eyes.

"Us? You're already ready to make it public?"

"Well, I was planning to last night honestly, but then there was that whole thing with Jungkook and Rai. I didn't want to ruin their moment."

Ava felt like her brain was short circuiting at Jin's words, listening to him chuckle when he saw the look of shock on her face.

"Look, I know we haven't actually been a thing for long," he said, "But I'm not planning on going anywhere, so we may as well make it official. Would that be okay with you?"

"You're kidding, right?"

"No?" Jin asked in hesitation as Ava moved forward to wrap him in a tight hug.

"Of course you can," she said. "I appreciate you for asking. Though, once things are official out there in the world with us, you're gonna need to hire some sort of bodyguard for me."

"Am I not enough of a bodyguard for you?" Jin teased. "Did you not see how I saved you from that river?"

Ava chuckled, jarred from the conversation with Jin when the man came back with their order. Ordering as many pancakes as they did, Jin and Ava divided the bags between them as they made their way back outside to Ava's vehicle. Jin helped her stack the bags in the back before gently moving to grab her wrist. Ava turned to lock eyes with him as he pulled the mask down to rest below his chin.

"I thought Jungkook was insane when he told me about his son," said Jin, "But I'm glad he told me. I'm glad he got me involved because it led me to you."

Ava smiled back; any words that she would have been about to say dying away as Jin's lips claimed hers in a tender yet loving kiss.

"Have either of you seen Seol?" Jungkook asked.

The pancake buffet they had set up at Rai's apartment as a farewell to Seol had gone off without a hitch. Everyone that had known about Seol had been present. Taehyung and Jimin kept trying to use Seol like some sort of fortune teller at one point to get their future told to them, which got them all giggling when Taehyung and Jimin begged for Seol to at least give them hot and cold hints. This led to bickering among the two about who was closer to being right about their future, and syrup ended up being intimately involved with both of their shirts. Jungkook rose his brow as he waited for an answer to the question he had asked, watching Taehyung and Jimin standing at the bathroom sink scrubbing their shirts.

"I haven't seen him since syrup- geddon," remarked Jimin as he shot a glare in Taehyung's direction.

"That was not my fault!" said Taehyung as he glared right back at Jimin.

Jungkook rolled his eyes as he walked off from the bathroom, bumping into Hoseok and Namjoon in the hallway making small talk.

"Have either of you seen Seol?" asked Jungkook, beginning to worry that Seol would just vanish without saying goodbye.

"I think he went outside," said Namjoon as he nodded his head towards the front door. "Rai's out there too."

Jungkook nodded as he moved to walk out the front door. At first he didn't see either of them. Once his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he noticed that Seol was seated on the roof of Rai's car with Rai situated right beside him. Seol's head turned when he heard the front door shut; his smile brighter than the stars overhead.

"Hey Dad."

"Hey," said Jungkook as Rai turned to look at him too. She had tears in her eyes.

"Are you crying?" asked Jungkook concerned as he moved up onto the hood of the car, gently crouching down on it until he was eye level with Rai who turned completely to face him.

He caught the tears with his fingers, gently brushing them away. Even when the tears were banished from existence, he still kept his fingers lightly brushing over her cheeks.

"I'm sorry...goodbyes are just hard."

Jungkook nodded, looking over at Seol who was looking at the two of them.

"Seol," said Jungkook, locking his eyes with his son. "Thank you for going through so much trouble for the two of us. You have no idea how much that really means. I like knowing that I won't end up losing the two people that matter the most to me."

Seol nodded, slipping down off the roof of the car to come and hug Jungkook.

"Please take care of her," he whispered in Jungkook's ear.

"I will," Jungkook said as he turned his head to whisper his response in Seol's ear.

Seol pulled back when he was satisfied, looking at both of his parents.

"I love you both," said Seol. "So much."

Seol took a deep breath as Jungkook held the watch out to him that he had kept in his pocket until then. Seol stared down at the face of the watch as he felt a tear or two slip down his cheek.

"Now you're crying," said Jungkook as he moved to hug Seol once more.

Seol hiccuped out a chuckle as he hugged Jungkook tightly back. Even though this was a goodbye, it wasn't a goodbye forever. He was going home to his reunited parents in the future and his parents in the past would meet him again someday when he was born. Rai slipped down off the roof of the car to hug Seol from behind; the three of them sharing an embrace.

"I should go," said Seol, trying to smile as he wiped at his face.

"We'll be there to greet you when you get home," said Rai. "Just think that."

Seol smiled a bit more at that remark, adjusting the time on the watch so that it would put him back in the right time. The last thing he saw before the world faded from around him was Jungkook slipping his arm about Rai to keep her tucked against his side.
