28. The Results Are In

The rest of the night that Jungkook spent with Rai had been amazing. With their feelings out in the open, it made it much easier for them to communicate and enjoy the rest of their evening. Instead of their original plan of tracking Ava, Jin, and Seol down, they decided to spend it getting to know each other better. They had ended that night with a deeper understanding of each other, and with the promise of a future date. Jungkook had never felt so elated. He had slept wonderfully that night, and everyone could tell that something good had happened to him during rehearsal the next day because he couldn't wipe the smile off his face.

And then the text came through. Now he was standing in the bathroom trying to calm himself down.

"Come on. Just open it," said Jungkook out loud to himself as he gripped the sink with his hands. His cell phone sat on the sink counter.

He heard the bathroom door squeak open and slap shut behind him. Jungkook lifted his head to look in the mirror to see Jin standing behind him.

"What's up?"

When Jungkook didn't answer and instead turned his gaze back to his phone, Jin got the hint. He moved to walk over and grab Jungkook's phone.

"Do you want me to open it for you?"

Jungkook nodded his head; feeling a wave of nausea wash over him as he turned his head down to face the white porcelain sink. Jin gave him a sympathetic smile.

"You've got this," said Jin, "Just breathe."

"I know..." whispered Jungkook.

"While you have what it takes to power through this, do you know one thing I don't have?"

Jungkook turned his head to look over at Jin to see him waving his locked phone back and forth.

"Your password," continued Jin causing Jungkook to crack a small grin.

Jungkook reached out his hands for a moment to unlock his phone before handing it back to Jin. He was glad that he had someone close to him that knew his secret, and Jin had found his own person in the process.

"So it was Rai that texted," said Jin breaking Jungkook out of his thoughts and making his nausea return. "She says that the results are in."

"Does she say what the results are?"

"No," said Jin. "That's all the message says. Maybe you ought to call her. She could be feeling the exact same way as you."

"You think?"

"Yeah. I do. Otherwise I wouldn't have said it," said Jin, putting Jungkook's phone back down next to the sink.

Jin was about to say something more when they heard voices in the hallway. Jin moved away from Jungkook to walk towards the entrance to the bathroom, reaching out a hand to slam it shut just as it was about to open. An 'OUCH' sounded out from the other side of the door.

"GEEZUM! WHAT THE HECK?..."

"IT'S OCCUPIED!" shouted out Jin in reply. "CHOOSE A DIFFERENT BATHROOM!"

"I THINK YOU BROKE MY NOSE!" came Taehyung's reply. "FOR FRICKING SAKES..."

"YOU ARE GONNA SURVIVE, BUTTERCUP!" replied Jin back.

Jungkook chuckled at the dramatics. They always seemed to happen in this bathroom whenever he was going through something in it.

"I'M ADDING THIS TO MY LIST OF INJURIES!" screeched Taehyung as Jungkook caught sight of Jin rolling his eyes up towards the ceiling.

"Call her," said Jin as he heard Taehyung mutter and walk off down the hallway.

Jungkook nodded, picking up his phone and calling Rai. It rang for a minute or two before the call was finally answered; Jungkook half thinking he'd go to voicemail for a second.

"This is Seol."

"Seol?" said Jungkook surprised. "Where's Rai?"

"I came with her to work, and then she just...she bailed. Said she was going to an early lunch, but hasn't come back. I'm trying to help keep her classroom in order."

"You're fourteen..."

As Jungkook said that, he heard some sort of screech in the background followed by something clattering.

"Don't worry. Auntie Ava is here too," said Seol.

Jungkook couldn't help but to worry at the sound of chaos and even more so when he realized Rai was MIA.

"You don't have any idea where she went?"

"Um...no...I mean...you can check the usual spots..."

"Alright. Alright. I'm coming...just hang in there."

When Jungkook hung up, Jin saw the concern on his face.

"What's going on?"

"Rai's gone missing from work. Seol and Ava are trying to handle it all on their own."

"I'll go with you," said Jin. "I can help out somehow..."

"Thanks," said Jungkook; his concern for Rai washing away his own feelings of anxiety over the results being in.

Ava sat in Rai's chair at the desk, watching as Seol sat out back cross legged on the area rug, reading the little kids a story. The story had something to do with a talking purple dog and a flying carpet. Ava really wasn't paying attention to the story selection. She was too busy worrying about where Rai had run off to. Seol had called her to the school in a panic when Rai had gone missing - and while Ava wanted to go search for Rai - she couldn't leave Seol in a teaching role by himself. He was just a child. The school didn't have a problem with Ava subbing in for Rai since she was a substitute once in a while anyway.

"Come on, Rai. Where are you?..." muttered Ava just as the phone on the desk rang. Casting her eyes towards it, she saw that it was the front office calling. Maybe it was news about Rai. Ava reached out a hand to answer it.

"Guests?" she said when the secretary told her that news followed up by one of their names.

Jin.

Ava felt her brain short circuiting as she told the secretary to send them up; putting a hand to her chest after she hung up as memories of last night came to her mind. She had been certain when she woke this morning that it had been nothing more than a wonderful dream, but it wasn't. The confirmation was on its way up the stairs. Soon enough, a knock at the classroom door brought her attention to it. Walking over to the door to open it, she saw a masked Jin and Jungkook standing there. They both poked their heads past the doorframe to look at Seol who was still doing story time with the children.

"You haven't heard from Rai?" asked Jungkook as he turned away to look back at Ava.

"No," said Ava.

"Where would she normally go when she feels overwhelmed?" asked Jin, trying to be the voice of reason as he looked back at Ava.

"Um...her car, her apartment, the grocery store..."

"Grocery store?" asked Jungkook.

"She stress shops followed by stress eats," said Ava. "I suppose it could be classified as stress snacks though."

"I'll go look for her," said Jungkook, "And I'll reach out if I hear anything."

Ava nodded as Jin moved to step into the classroom. She felt her heart stop.

'What are you doing?' thought Ava as Jin stood beside her.

"I'm going to stay and help Seol and Ava while you do that," said Jin. "I'm hoping I can be helpful."

Ava pictured all the cute little things that Jin would do in his attempt to entertain the children, and each thing she pictured made her smile.

"Thank you," said Ava as Jungkook nodded before walking off.

Ava and Jin watched Jungkook walk down the hall like a man on a mission, which was nothing short of what he was.
