17. Setup
Rai came out to the kitchen just as Seol and Ava were finishing up, enjoying the lovely breakfast that had been prepared. As they were all finishing the last bites of their meals, Seol heard a ding go off from the phone in his pocket. He reached a hand to pull it out of his pocket; his face lighting up with a small smile when he saw whose number was on his screen.
Jungkook
I'm going out for a jog.
Did you want to join?
Seol
I'd love to!
Give me ten minutes.
Jungkook
Alright.
I'll wait for you at the end of the block.
"Mom," said Seol as he looked up from his phone and over to Rai. "Could I go hang out with Dad for a bit?"
"That's fine," said Rai. "Though you don't need to ask."
"Well, I feel that I do. I'm only fourteen, and besides, I'm used to it."
Seol got up from the table. Where he didn't have any clothes to change into, he stepped into the bathroom to take a quick shower before putting the same clothes back on and going down the street to go find his father.

Jungkook stood at the end of the block, looking down the walkway for Seol. He had texted Seol earlier to see if he wanted to come take an early morning jog with him. Digging his hand into his pocket, he took out the music player that Seol had let him borrow the night before. He had fallen asleep listening to the music of a woman that he had only met yesterday. Listening to music helped to paint a picture of her in his mind, and he couldn't help but wonder why she had so many songs on her playlist that were about betrayal and being stronger after a trial. Were those added to the playlist before or after him seeing as this music player was supposedly from the future?
"Hey."
Jungkook shook himself out of his thoughts as he looked up to see Seol standing in front of him. Seol was dressed in the same clothes he had been the day before.
"You were quick," said Jungkook.
"Well, I didn't really have much to do. Why are you staring?"
"Your clothes."
"Oh!" Seol felt his cheeks heat up. "Well - like my cellphone - I didn't exactly bring any clothes with me."
"We'll stop by a store after our jog. I'll make sure that you have something decent to wear."
"You don't have to keep buying stuff for me."
"Isn't that what parents do?" Jungkook asked with a smirk, which caused the other to smirk too.
"Fine. Thank you."
Jungkook nodded before moving to hand the player back.
"Thank you for letting me borrow this last night by the way. It really helped me to get a better picture of her."
"You're welcome," said Seol as he moved to take it back, slipping it into his pocket, "Though if you really wanted to get to know her, you could...you know...talk to her."
"I did talk to her yesterday."
"Yes, but you were both more frozen than water in the winter," said Seol.
"Who taught you that one?"
"Myself," said Seol with a proud smile on his face, causing Jungkook to eye roll; a small smile on his face.
"Come on. Let's get going with the jog. I have practice today."
"On a Sunday?"
"Our comeback is soon. We don't have time to rest. We have to practice every moment we get, and I took time off yesterday."
Seol didn't argue, moving to follow along beside Jungkook as he managed to match strides with him.
"Do you jog a lot?" asked Jungkook.
"Not as much as I used to," said Seol. "I used to do this all the time with you before everything happened. We used to hang out a lot."
"I don't like that it just seems as if I dumped you. That doesn't even make any sense. Why would I do that?"
"How am I to know? I always asked myself that," he said. "I missed you, but you just suddenly seemed to have no more time for either of us."
"What happened between your mother and I?"
"I'm not allowed to tell you that," said Seol. "Besides, you ought to start with a fresh slate."
Jungkook didn't say anything as their feet pounded against the pavement beneath them for a few minutes. They were soon paused at a crosswalk, waiting for the light to change and indicate that it was safe to cross the street. As they did, Jungkook looked over at Seol. Before he could say anything to the other, Seol broke the silence.
"I know you're busy with the comeback, but..."
"The answer is yes."
"I haven't even said anything yet," said Seol with a chuckle.
"Doesn't matter. I have a lot to make up for, and I want to start now."
"Then you can go to the movies with me tonight?"
"Of course. Sounds like fun," said Jungkook. "I can't remember the last time that I went to a movie. Before that though, did you have anything planned?"
"No, but I thought you did with practice and everything," said Seol.
"Well, I was wondering if you might want to come with me. When I pick you up some clothes, we can make sure we also buy things to keep your face covered and you can just sit and watch practice...I mean, if you want to. I know it'll be boring, but..."
"No! No, no...I want to. I think that'd be awesome."
Jungkook smiled, nodding his head as the crosswalk sign indicated that it was safe for the two of them to cross the street. As they did, Seol lagged behind a little bit in his jogging to be able to text Ava.
Seol
Plan is in motion for Dad.
You're on for Mom.

With Seol gone, Ava and Rai puttered about cleaning up the kitchen. Ava was gathering the dishes off the table when she heard her phone go off. Sneaking a hand into her pocket, she dug it out to see that Seol had texted her. She had to hide the smile that came to her face when she saw the text. Now it was her turn to set it things up with Rai.
Ava tucked her phone away before bringing the last of the dirty dishes over to the sink. It was then that she noticed Rai was continually scrubbing at the same spot on the already clean plate in her hands over and over again as if there was one last crumb to vanquish.
"You're lost in your thoughts again," said Ava.
"I just...don't you think it's weird that Jungkook is so all in already?"
"Isn't that a good thing?" asked Ava, "Especially with the crazy circumstances. I mean, think about it Rai. You and Jungkook were strangers until yesterday. Yesterday. You met the man we've been calling your future hubby only for him to actually be your future hubby."
"I appreciate the pep talk, but..."
"No. No buts."
Seeing that Rai wasn't looking at her during this whole transaction and that she was still scrubbing the same spot on the plate, Ava yanked it from her hands.
"You and I are having a girls day out. We haven't done that in forever."
"Girls day out? What if Seol...?"
"Stop. He's with Jungkook," said Ava, "As crazy as that is to say, let them have some father son time, and you and I can have some best friend girly time."
"Doing what exactly?"
Ava moved to loop an arm over Rai's shoulders before fanning her free hand through the air.
"I'm thinking going to your favorite diner, retail therapy, and then a movie."
"Those are all things I like..."
"See! That's the spirit! It's also because I know my girl," said Ava. "My twinnie."
Rai couldn't help but smile. She always did that whenever Ava came around. She was the most dependable friend she ever had, and she didn't know what she would do without her. Besides, maybe this day spent with her best friend would be just the recharge she needed after all the craziness that had happened.
