Part 9
Jesse's POV
It's been a month since I've become a farther and it's the best thing in the world. Koyo is an amazing kid, Jaden did a great job raising him on his own. He explained that because of his fusion with Yubel that he was able to get pregnant, not something Yubel actually decided to let Jaden know of course. Now that everything is in the open however we can finally be a family. A family, I smiled at the thought. If Jaden hadn't ran away, we would be married now and still living in Europe. The idea of seeing Jaden in a white dress and holding a baby made me smile more. Snap out of it Jesse, you're married. You're not meant to be thinking about Jaden that way anymore! I wonder if Jaden ever thought about me though. According to Zane, he never spoke about me after he moved back to town and once he was in full time work Jaden stopped talking about the past all together.
"Jesse," Alexis called me snapping me out of my thoughts. "I'm off to work now. You have that meeting with Zane, today right?"
She knows full well I do. I'm joining the Cyber Dojo League for this season until we find another sponsor for me next season. Moving when a new season is coming up really is difficult. "Yeah, I don't know when I'll be home. I might stop by and see Koyo for a while." Lucky for me, Jaden lives near Zane's office. "So, you can start dinner without me tonight."
"Okay, see you later," She bid goodbye locking the door behind her.
It's strange, as Koyo and I became closer, Alexis and I grew apart slightly. It maybe my imagination as she had just started at the new school so she was probably over whelmed by the new work load. I looked at the time, realising I should probably leave now if I wanted to make it to the office. I quickly changed into my suit, grabbing my duelling gear and headed out for the office. I haven't been the new guy at any place since my last sponsor. Even then, I'll admit that I knew the owner there too.
As I walked into the reception I was greeted by Syrus, looking smart in his suit. "Morning Jess," He greeted. "Zane has a couple of meetings this morning, so why don't I introduce you to the team downstairs?"
"Sure, if you can," I nodded following him to the team downstairs. The building they are in is part of a Kaiba Corp building with all the latest duelling technology. This is beyond what Europe has, though surprising Kaiba Corp hasn't expanded that far yet. "Whoa," I stared in amazement as I saw the practice fields in use.
"It's pretty cool," Syrus gloated. "Once we went to a silver league, we were granted these duel fields. The new recruitments get the hand of a professional field because of it."
"I see," I admired as we continued to walk.
We walked to the end of the hallway to an open office plan. Suddenly I noticed a male with jet black hair, stand up tall looking at his. He ran over, almost tripping over his own feet. "Jesse Anderson," He beamed grabbing hold of my free hand. "I'm such a big fan!"
"Jesse, this is Haru," Syrus introduced us and Haru gave a bow. "Haru will be your assistant while you're here. Helping with interviews, duel training, fan met and greets. Well you get the picture."
"It's very nice to meet you," I bowed in return. "I've never had an assistant before."
"With the popularity of the league assistants are needed to help the duellist keep on top of schedule," Haru explained. "It helps maintain a positive image of the league as well as the duellists."
You can definitely see the hard work Zane and Syrus have gone into to build this league up from the ground. After a quick coffee with Haru and getting to know him, turns out he's a married dad of two himself who once wanted to be a duellist but family situations meant he wasn't able to proceed with his dream. It was a shame for him but he said he wouldn't change anything about his life. He didn't have any regrets. Unlike me. "Zane should be done with his meeting now," Syrus said looking at his watch as we entered the elevator.
"So, work or personal?" I laughed knowing how stressful it was planning a wedding in such short time.
Syrus just laughed. "All work related," He assured. "He's promised me that. Emiko would kill him if he missed his work. She's always been that way with him. Though all she's wanted since graduation was for the two of them to be married, she wants Zane to achieve his goals more."
Must be nice to have that kind of relationship. Together all those years and putting something on hold so the other can achieve, makes me jealous. If Jaden and I were still together our anniversary would be next week. I laugh to myself. The fact that I can still remember that date well. It wasn't long before we made it into Zane's office. "Come in," He called as Syrus knocked the door. "Ah Jesse, you're on time. That's a good start on your first day." Zane trying to make jokes never really works but I gave him a sympathy laugh. Syrus left us to the meeting as he said he had some new recruits to deal with. "Alright then Jess, shall we start with the schedule?"
"Sure thing," I agreed taking a seat. Zane dug through his draws taking out a black zip up folder and handing it to me. I opened it up, seeing contact information in the front pocket and then a map of the building. "All this is for me?"
"Personal documents are standard procedure," Zane advised. "That folder has the contacts you need, the companies you'll most likely work with. The season schedule and the usual employee contract. We'll go through it now while you're here."
Wow, Zane really has this down? He sure has changed over the past ten years.
---
On my way home, I made sure to call Jaden to see if I could see Koyo for a bit. Even if it just means just ten minutes of playing a video came, I'm loving the chance to be with him. Also, I do get to spend time with Jaden. I'm a married man and shouldn't think this way but I do. Jaden was my first love and to this day means everything to me. Now that he's also the papa of my child I have a deeper bond with him then before.
I knocked on the door to the apartment, Koyo greeting me with a large grin. "Hi daddy."
"Hiya," I greeted back messing with his hair. "Where's Papa?"
Just then I could hear sometime coughing from the bathroom. "Papa doesn't feel very well," Koyo sighed. "Our neighbour miss Betty dropped me home."
I was slightly worried. Jaden was so ill he couldn't even pick up Koyo. Koyo went back to the sofa to play his video game while I went to bathroom to check up on Jaden. I knocked on the bathroom only to be greeted with the sound of vomiting. I winced before opening the door, seeing Jaden perched over the toilet bowel. "Oh my god," I gasped running to his side. "You okay?"
Obviously he's not. "I think I caught this stupid bug going around," He moaned as he heaved. "I, I still have to get dinner ready."
As he tried to stand he lost his footing, luckily I managed to catch him. "Go lay down," I ordered, he tried to speak but I stopped him. "I'll make dinner, or order in, but you need to rest."
Without any more resistance Jaden went to bed. I sighed and went back to the kitchen, "Say little man," I laughed calling over to Koyo. "What you like to eat?"
Koyo paused his game thinking for a moment before yelling, "Can we have cheese burgers?"
"Sure," I nodded dialling a number. I heard it ring for a couple moments for I heard a response. "Lexi, you okay?"
"Oh Jess," Why does she sound shocked to hear from me? I am her husband. "What's up? I thought you'd still be in that meeting."
"That? We finished early so I dropped by to see Koyo," I explained. "Only thing is Jaden isn't well so I'm going to have dinner here with them. Just though I'd let you know."
"That's okay," She said. "Why don't you stay the night?" Stay the night? Why is she encouraging this? "Koyo will need someone to help look after him, right? If Jaden can't do it why don't you stay? It'll help you get to know him more too."
"If you're okay with that," I mumbled. "You going to be okay on your own?"
"Of course," She giggled. "I'll have a nice long bath, watch a couple of bad movies and have some me time."
Well, it has been awhile since we've had time to ourselves. "Okay then," I agreed. "I'll come get some clothes tomorrow morning for work."
"Have a fun tonight," With that she hung up.
Strange, why did she insist on me staying? Either way I guess I'm stuck for the night now.
