Chapter 31: What If. . .

Chapter 31:
What If. . .

Harry opened his eyes and again, he was in a different place from before. Harry sighed and looked around him. He was on at a. . . amusement park?

I should be in Taylor's room, or at least in the Swift's guest room.

"Harry!"

Harry turned and found T - or Taylor - who was already in front of him, holding two pink cotton candies in front of him. Harry stared at the girl closely. Is this another dream again?

Taylor sat beside Harry, holding out the cotton candy in her left hand. "You're getting tired, huh? In fact, I wanted to invite you to another ride. It's been a while since I went to an amusement park."

Harry shook his head and smiled faintly. "No, I don't mind. We can try all kinds of rides here, if you want. "

"Really?" Taylor's face shone, like a child.

Harry nodded. "Of course! But how about we eat first? You need to have the energy to try all the rides here, Taylor." A faint smile appeared on Harry's pink lips.

"Aye, aye, Captain!" Taylor made a salute gesture to Harry before chuckling with amusement at her own attitude.

Harry just stared at the girl with an. . . amazed look.

They're sitting opposite each other in a simple restaurant that wasn't far from the amusement park. Taylor is busy eating her spaghetti while Harry is busy with his own activities. Harry hasn't even touched his food yet. The young man was busy resting his chin, smiling at the girl who was eating her spaghetti.

Taylor, who finally noticed Harry's gaze stopped eating and rested her chin back, looking at Harry with her one eyebrow raised.

"Are you going to keep looking at me like that, without touching your food? Aren't you even hungry?" Taylor asked.

Harry chuckled. "Just by looking at you, I'm already full."

Taylor rolled her eyes before moving her hands to lightly brush Harry's arm which supported the young man's chin. Again, Harry laughed.

“Stop acting weird, Harry. Finish your meal. I don't want to come home too late." Taylor continued eating.

"So what? Are you afraid that your mum will get angry? But your mother seems to really like me."

Now, Harry folded his arms on the table, but the young man's eyes were still focused on Taylor.

Taylor frowned in surprise. “You've never even met my mom, Haz. After all, haven't I said it many times? I'm alone here."

Harry was silent, not knowing what to say. So here she is, knowing absolutely nothing about her parents, or even Jason, Taylor's younger brother. But wait, is Taylor really Jason's sister who's in a coma?

"You. . . you have a younger brother, right?"

Taylor chuckles at Harry's question. "Ah, I forgot. My brother is preparing to enter university. Looks like he's going to study in England."

Jason actually went to college in England. Harry thought.

"After this, what are we going to ride?" Taylor asked suddenly, finishing her meal.

Harry, who hadn't even touched his meal yet, seemed to be thinking before looking out of the restaurant. The day seems to be getting late, it will soon be night. The amusement park is also getting busier. If the day is full of families, the night is full of couples. It was so beautiful looking at the city at night and the young man immediately got the idea.

"How about the Ferris wheel? I thought seeing the city at night would be very beautiful." Harry smiled broadly at Taylor and unexpectedly, Taylor smiled at him too, with narrowed eyes.

"Of course. Why not?"

For some reason, her smile this time had a devastating effect on Harry's heart. The two of them walked out of the restaurant and immediately queued for their entrance ticket to the Ferris wheel. Unfortunately, the queue was quite long and most of those who queued were couples.

About an hour of waiting in line, then they got their turn, precisely at six in the afternoon. During the queue, there was no conversation at all between the two of them. It feels awkward. They weren't a couple, but everyone there must have thought they were.

Harry enters the Ferris wheel first, before finally reaching out to help Taylor enter. They sat side by side and waited for the other passengers to ride the Ferris wheel in silence.

After fifteen minutes, the Ferris wheel started moving. It moved slowly and Harry's heart was pounding even faster. Harry doesn't know why he's feeling like this.

“I've always wanted to be in the Ferris wheel with someone I love, to see a very beautiful view of the city of Los Angeles." Harry turned to Taylor, who seemed to be staring out of the Ferris wheel with sparkling eyes.

Taylor suddenly turned and smiled again. The same sweet smile as back at the restaurant.

"Isn't it romantic, when you're at the top, you and your partner are doing something like normal couples would do? Like cuddling or kissing? Or even propose to your girl?"

Taylor turned her gaze outside and the smile began to fade. The girl continued, “Jacob would never be happy to hear my words like this. He always said, my mind is too old fashioned. He said that I have to stop thinking like this, and stop wishing that happily ever after really exists."

"He's stupid. He's so stupid. " Harry commented unconsciously and made Taylor giggle.

There was no longer any conversation between them when the Ferris wheel reached its peak. The two of them were silent until Taylor rested her head on Harry's shoulder. Harry desperately hoped that the girl hadn't heard his pounding heart that had been going on forever.

Harry looked at the girl. Again, Harry wouldn't be able to stop swearing at Jacob. Why is that guy so stupid, anyway, to only use girls like Taylor? How could that man not fall for her? I mean, she's beautiful, inside and out. So what else is that stupid young man looking for?

"Haz, you know about Jacob and Mila, right?" Taylor asked suddenly, without changing her position.

Harry closed his eyes. "What's wrong with them?"

"Jacob and Mila were lovers. When they broke up, a few days later, Jacob approached me. What do you think?"

One more piece of information that Harry received from Taylor. Harry has a bad feeling about this one.

“Tay, what if. . . what if Jacob doesn't love you? He's just. . . well, he's only using you for certain things? " Harry asked doubtfully and Taylor was silent.

The girl closed her eyes and smiled faintly. "It's no problem. I only need to be near him, and that makes me happy."

Why do you keep pissing me off, Babe? Why can't you open your eyes and see how bad the man you love is?

"What if. . . what if there was another man who truly loves you and vowed to treat you like a king who treats his daughter, then commit to make you queen and build a new palace, with a few princes and little princesses?" Harry asked again, without thinking.

Taylor pauses before chuckling. "If only that man you're talking about is real." Taylor shrugged.

"What if he's real? If there is someone who— "

"Harry," Taylor interrupted Harry seriously.

Taylor sighed before saying, “I'm happy enough with Jacob. I love him."

For the first time, Harry is eager to kill himself by jumping from the Ferris wheel.

After seeing the view of the city of Los Angeles from above the Ferris wheel, they decided to go straight home. Harry brought a car, and God knows how he already got that car. What is clear, the car keys are in the drawer of his desk and Harry also already has a driver's license.

Harry opened the door for Taylor and Taylor to go inside then, only then did Harry enter. While starting the engine, Harry remembers one thing: he doesn't know where Taylor's house is.

"Babe?" Harry called out to the silent girl doubtfully. Taylor turned and raised an eyebrow.

“Err, can you show me the way to your house? I mean, I—"

“Haz, how could you forget? My apartment is only five buildings away from yours and Jacob's apartment." Taylor interrupted Harry quickly. Harry thought, before finally understanding what the girl meant.

During the trip, the two of them fell silent again.
