*** Vance's POV***

Mother fucking child. I swear on my mother's grave. That prick snorted. So, I go to see why he is so amused.

"Excuse me." I stand up and follow the kid into the restaurant.

"Did you just snort?" I ask as I drag him into a separate dining room.

"I did." The guy chuckles and waves his hand while laughing.

"What did you find so funny?" I can already tell I'm not going to appreciate his answer.

"Well, honestly. Why is someone like you with something like that?" The boy howls in laughter while pointing outside.

"Someone like me?" I question angrily. This kid has audacity.

"Oh please. You're Vance Teagan. You're one of the most eligible bachelors in California. Why would you be seen in public with a fatty?" His words register. I have to remind myself not to make a scene.

"I'm trying hard not to give you a reason to sue me." I glare intently at the asshole.

"She's not exactly prime real estate. I suggest you back out now." He laughs again as my fist closes. My knuckles protest the pressure.

"She's voluptuous. Gorgeous. Beautiful inside and out. You are immature. You shouldn't insult your boss's girlfriend." The boy shrieks as I reveal my little secret.

"You own this place?" His pale complexion becomes transparent.

"I do. You would be wise to do more research. I'm not going to fire you but, you may want to back out now. I'm having you demoted to dishes. Get off my floor. Do yourself a favor. Get some sensitivity training before you decide to collect some poor girl who will expect you to fall in love with her. No one deserves to have a fucktard for a boyfriend." I walk off and head to my manager. I quickly calm him while explaining the situation. I walk back out and sit down to my lunch.

I'm not letting that fucker deter me from my date.

We eat in silence while I calm down. Then I choose to give Karis my attention. She deserves that much.

"So, Rex and I we have known one another since we were kids." I start my story hoping to melt some of the tension from the earlier charade.

"How long has he been with Finn?" Karis asks softly. She chews in between speaking and closes her mouth while doing so. I love it. I love a girl with healthy mannerisms.

"They met in high school. Sweethearts. Finn was immediately smitten but, Rex was a bit of a flirt. He put that boy through hell. He made Finn come up with a grand gesture before he would even go on a date. It was awful." I eat a few bites and swallow before continuing.

"He seems like the type." Karis giggles. I get lost in the sound. She is the total package. Everything about her has me caged in.

"Finn came to me, as I am Rex's best friend. I groaned knowingly. Rex is a diva. No way Finn was getting off without creating a major scene. So we planned it all out. I gave Finn the best advice I could. He really smashed it out of the park by the way." I continue eating between breaks in our conversation. I decide the build up was probably too much for my dear Karis.

"Okay. Tell me." Karis sets down her fork and pushes her plate away. I give her a questioning glance.

"I'm not a big eater. I will take it home." Karis waves me through to finish my tale.

"Rex was galavanting through the halls wearing a sash and a crown. His sixteenth birthday was that day. Rex was more than excited about the attention. Girls swooned; boys did too. Rex has no issue flirting with males or females. Although he prefers the former, strictly." Karis sits up and leans over, listening to every single detail like its the greatest story ever told. Maybe it is. It surely was a blast to be a part of.

"So, the loud speaker to the school comes on. The halls become deadly silent. We had pulled some strings. I come from a known family. That bought us a little leverage. Anyways, you could hear Finn's nerves as he cleared his throat. The sound of a guitar started strumming over the loud speaker. The girls went super fan crazy. Finn is musically inclined, in case you're wondering."

I push my plate to the side and grab Karis out of her chair to place her in my lap. I want to hold her. It's just something about her, I can't keep my hands to myself.

"So the crowd is buzzing as the sound of Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me is being played on acoustics. Finn starts singing the lyrics. His voice was so shaky but, you could tell his heart was all over it. Then, Rex starts crying. I mean you should have seen him. He was fanning his hands in the air. His head whipped back and forth as the sound came down the halls. Rex was losing his fucking mind. He bounced on his feet as Finn walked down the hall with his guitar strapped to his chest. Finn sang to the boy of his dreams. But, that wouldn't be enough in Finn's eyes. He wanted Rex. Let me tell you. He knew damn well how to get him too." I take a pause because the best part of the story needs a breather.

"Vance you're killing me." Karis bounces in her seat, on my lap, with a wide grin and starry eyes. I enjoy the child like excitement and decide to let it play on for an extra minute. Or two.

What? I love telling a good story.

"Finn comes down the hall. Rex stands there with his crown tilted from all of the movement. Rex's face is streaked with tears. Finn grabs Rex's hand and places it over his heart while singing the words to the chorus. Rex is completely swooning by this point. Finn reaches over and grabs Rex around the waist. He pushes the guitar to his back. They start swaying to non existent music. Right there in the middle of the whole school, Finn and Rex had their first dance." I taper off with the end left wide open. I need her reaction to gauge how much more detail to give.

"That is absolutely adorable. Tell me what happened." Karis puts her fingers in my hair. I relish in her dainty touch.

"Duh. They're married." I roll my eyes playfully, knowing she wants the rest of this particular tale.

"Please." She bends down and pecks my lips.

"Rex pulls away and looks right at Finn. The crowd and I were waiting for him to say something about the whole show. Rex props his hand on his hip and looks expectantly at Finn. I busted out laughing. I know Rex. I knew he wanted even more. Finn smiles. Finn pulls out a tiny box from his bag that he had slung over his shoulder. He hands it to Rex and finally says Happy Birthday. Rex smiles and claps his hands. Finally impressed, no doubt. Finn watches in anticipation as Rex dramatically pulls the paper off. He sheds the wrapping from the seams as if the paper was an expensive glass that he barely wanted to disturb." I take a sip of coke and offer a sip to the sweet girl in my lap as well. I place my hand on her thigh and hold her even closer.

"The rest. Tell me the rest." Her joy is overflowing and seeping out of her voice. Her eyes shine brightly. I can feel the rapid beat of her heart.

"Rex opens the little box and confetti explodes in his face. Of course we all laugh. Rex opens his mouth and the little glitter gets all on his lips and tongue. It begins to melt because Finn had gotten this special edible glitter. Don't ask how he got it, I'm not even gonna tell you how hard that was. Rex licks his lips. Finn's eyes track the path of his tongue." I stop there because I'm an asshole.

"Don't you dare Vance Teagan." Karis grabs my face and bends down. She runs her own tongue against the seam of my lips. I grip her thigh tightly and growl as I smash my lips down on hers. I taste her lunch and her drink. I hum in approval as I swipe my tongue around inside of her mouth. When I pull back, I smirk.

"Should have made you kiss me for every part of the story." Karis smacks my chest lightly. I grin while going back to our little conversation.

"Finn hands Rex another box, which he opens a little slower, as if that were possible. However, he might have been fearful of whatever would pop out. He wasn't disappointed. He takes the lid off and there is a note in the box. He tosses the box away as if it had burned him. His fingers gripped the paper excitedly. He unfolds the parchment to reveal a map. It was a good thing we had a free period at the end of the day. This took a lot of time." I pause again and breathe before picking right back up.

"Rex plunders the halls and looks wildly for the spot that would be marked with an X, as eluded to in the map. He gets all the way to the gym, which is half way across campus. The whole student body in invested by this time. We follow along gleefully. A huge red X is laid out on the gym floor. Rex walks to it and stands there. The lights go dim. Everyone quiets down as yet another song starts playing. Enchanted comes thru the PA system. Our school's ballerinas come spinning around in these fairy like purple dresses. A spot light shines down on Rex. His blistering smile is beaming. He looks ethereal as his eyes light up. Finn walks out of the locker room holding a bouquet of purple roses and softly lays his hand down on Rex's cheek. The music dies down. Finn talks into the microphone in his hand." I wait a second because it is who I am. This is the best part of the whole fucking story. It deserves a moment to let the rest disappear.

"Finn breathes out a huge breath, I'm sure he had been holding. His hand shakes. He lifts his head to meet the watery eyes of his crush. He says Rex Mitchell Tanner I have dreamt of you every night since the first day I saw you. I meet you there, in my fantasies, just so that I can see your beautiful smile. I'm not asking you to give me forever, because well that would be creepy. I'm only asking that you accept my offer to take you on one date. If you are displeased, I won't ask again. I just want one chance to prove to you that I can make your every dream a reality. Rex will will you go to prom with me?"

"Now don't ask any questions. I know you are confused but listen." I shush Karis' lips as I smile.

"Rex says Prom is four months away. He looks as flabbergasted as everyone else. Then Finn tells him it would be worth the wait. Finn lays a soft kiss on his cheek before turning to walk away. I smiled knowingly because this was planned. Rex fell right into it. Rex yanks the microphone off the stand and that's when it got wonderful. Seth Langston Finnley. Get your ass back here so I can kiss you. With that the crowd went ballistic. Rex had Finn pinned in place with his lips attacking the boy at all available skin. The rest is history." I smile when Karis tucks her hands over her heart.

"So he knew that if he made the date so far away Rex wouldn't be able to wait?" Karis looks at me questioningly. Her eyes glisten with happiness. I nod in confirmation.

"This was all your idea?" Karis smiles widely at me. I shrug. I'm a genius.

"No one goes to prom with someone they haven't invested in. It's a big night and a lot of people lose their v card. So, the simple conclusion would be that Rex was going to have to give Finn a chance if they planned on attending together. Well, they have been together ever since. Paid off, Huh? Big risk, bigger reward." I stand up and pull Karis with me as we walk towards the front of the restaurant.

During my story a new waiter had gotten her a To Go box and drink. I carried it while getting us back to my truck.

"I can't wait to hear about the marriage proposal." Karis swoons excitedly while I buckle her in.

"You can watch that on video. It was something made for a movie." I leave her with a teaser as I get in the truck and head towards my house.
