"Don't look at me like that.
Don't come any closer."
--K.A.R.D : Don't Recall--
================================
5:00 a.m
The next day, early in the morning, I found myself glancing at the storage room's door every few minutes, thinking the demon would burst out. Thankfully, my neck no longer ached, but last night's memories seemed to tug my thoughts from behind. All I desired was to not recall the chills his jade, abyss eyes gave me, and wondered when he would get tired of chasing me around; to only be gone later on.
Minho was still not awake, which meant I had enough time to get Satan out of the house . . . And that is how I ended up here . . . In Naksan Park, leaning against an old brick wall, with an unconscious demon next to me, while watching the sun rise over the horizon. "Why am I still here?" I mumbled under my breath, dangling one of the potion bottles Maria gave me exactly over the tip of my nose, while eyeing the teal liquid inside . "Reperotrates potion, eh?"
Next to me, the demon shifted uneasily in his sleep, huskily moaning out words I could not comprehend. I inched away out of instinct, trying not to recall the abyss I nearly lost myself to, and shifted my attention to the colorful lit city in the distance. How did humans manage to create such-stunning-sights?
I took in the view, with a small-smile lingering on my lips, as I lifted my knees closer to my chest, and hugged them. It was the least I could do to warm myself from the frosty weather of the approaching winter season . . . Not that it could cause me any sort of death anytime soon. Most might hate this time of the year, but it was the season that I came across someone who truly cared for me, and left me with pleasant memories. Stealing one more glance to the sleeping figure a few inches away from me, I stood up, and started walking away. He would wake up soon anyway. Latching my potion back to my belt, my legs took off to venture the human city once again.
Though, before I could even barely take ten steps, sloppy, yet hurried footsteps were already making their way to me from behind, until a weak grip on my wrist tugged me backwards. There he was, sleepy eyes, and disheveled, bed hair; it was as if he had sensed me leaving. "Don't touch me," I spoke, smacking his hand away from mine, trying so hard to keep a displeased expression, even though I myself was still sleepy from waking up early in the morning and dragging him to this deserted park.
"Last night, did I do something?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck in annoyance.
I tried to read his expression, but he refused to lock eyes with me, as if . . . embarrassed? No way, probably my imagination, but his eyes seemed to linger to my neck just like as last night. "That idiot really has caused you one big trouble," he spoke instantly, leaving his past question unanswered. "Why did he kiss you?"
I shot him a glare, and took a step backwards, asking, "He did not tell you the whole story, did he?"
"Well that's a Curse of a Forbidden Kiss, it appears on a divine being, who has been stained by a creature of hell," Satan stated, his eyes still locked on whatever mark was embedded to my neck. "In your case, it's faint, since I am guessing he did it without your consent."
" How do you know all this?" I asked, not taking notice of us walking down the path before us, side to side.
Satan seemed flattered by my questions, and for a second he looked like an open education book, as he spoke," The gift of reading."
The fair distance between us set me at ease for a few minutes, but the demon did not seem as satisfied. "When do you plan on going back? Your supposed to be an exchange student remember?" he snickered, inching closer, that our shoulders were slightly touching.
"Another second there would be me asking for death," I spat back, kicking a pebble into a small, green bush. "Shadows souls will swarm me the second I step there."
A steady ',hummmm' was all I got as a reply. Stealing a glance at him, only stunned me upon noticing that his droopy eye focus was all on me. " Quit staring," the words left my lips automatically, maybe because it was a catch phase I have seen in movies humans create.
"Well, it seems to be an efficient way to get your attention, so . . . No," he smirked, giving me spine chilling goose bumps.
" Just stay away from me, you and your dirty tongue," I countered, nudging him away from me a little.
"Ouch, it feels like your comparing me to Asmo," a half-hearted chuckle left his lips, as turned his attention back to the path ahead. "Just so you know, once you meant Asmo, you would consider my sense of flirting nothing compared to that guy!"
"Because you make others hate you guts inside and out?"
Unlike my other conversations, I managed to laugh during my small chat with Satan as we strolled around the park, and through the streets of Seoul. I found myself slowly forgetting last night's events but could not help, but wonder if the demon strolling next to me was aware of it either. "The mark on my neck . . ." I started curiously, stuffing my hands into the pockets of my shorts, ". . . What does it look like?"
Satan seemed to drown into hesitation upon hearing my question," I . . .Yuna . . It .It looks like a single-snake slithering from the nap of your neck . . . And slowly down your collarbone."
My hand unconsciously found its way to it, but the demon was swift to grab my hand and stop me. I looked at him in confusion, but he did not seem to care." Stop. Don't touch me," I subconsciously spat, feeling a tight clench inside my chest, upon noticing what had just left my lips.
"Don't touch it, it might break the spell I had cast on it . . . To slow it down from . . . Having a small chance of spreading all over your body," he spoke, his plain voice having an unknown emotion I have never sensed before hidden underneath, "and . . . Don't give me that look."
"What look? I don't recall us being on good terms with each other," I quickly defended, hoping it would change the topic, about the curse mark, after already getting an answer to my first question.
"Don't try pushing me away any further, " he smirked, poking the center of my forehead with his index finger teasefully.
"Not my fault you act like you know everything about everybody and everyone," Satan rolled his eyes at me, that some might think they would actually see their brain at the back at some point.
"Well if your so annoyed, why did you not just leave me in the middle of Minho's living room for him to see a total stranger in the morning?" he questioned with a smug-smile, while looking at me straight in the eyes.
He was trying to tick me off, and toy with me like a kitten (is pretty ironic). I could see a cunning glint in his eyes, as he bent down to make fun of my height, leaving me to retort with a question, "So is my assumption of you acting like a gentlemen in front of others is just a route for you to trick them into doing your biding?"
"Ah, so your not going to object worrying about me?" He countered slyly, holding his chin between his index and thumb finger, thinking. "If I'm not wrong, you care for me?"
My tongue was refusing to give him the satisfaction of winning this conversation," Correction, I was simply worried about my owner finding a creep from the cat-café sneaking around his house all night! And I certainly don't recall caring for a deceptive-demon such as yourself!"
It was until the sun had fully rose over the horizon, and shone brightly in the sky, that me and Satan had taken notice of how long we both had been talking. People were starting to pour out to their apartments, and flats and into the bustling roads and sidewalks. Birds chirped their morning tunes, and fluttered over the heads of each other playfully. The natural majestic seemed to blend perfectly with the man-made designs of stones-sculptures, and unique architecture of the buildings that settled among it. If only every existing being could be this alive, and flourished with such beauty, then maybe the human realm could really be a paradise.
"Man, you human tamed creatures are so weird," I could hear Satan mumbled next to me.
Turning around to face him, I opposed," Well then I think I am pretty lucky to have been tamed by such a caring and loveable human."
"Do you know that they feel the cold feeling , Irresponsibility; feel Guilt after blame, and most of them usually remember Resentment over good memories, while some live in Misery over faded memories," his voice twisted with heavy emotions, but his eyes were hollow and empty . . . Numb.
I found myself at lost of words, with my mouth hanging open like an idiot. Satan's eyes wandered into the distance, before snapping back to reality, but only managed to give me his signature, fake smile. "Creepy," I cringed, before walking past him, and he probably had heard me, since his emerald-eyes widened. "Anyway, tell Luke I will be back soon in two weeks time!"
Not turning back, I gave him a departing wave in the air, before shifting into a cat once again, and disappearing into the bustling city. . .
* * *
". . . And that was how I came to know more,
about the conflicted emotions of a certain demon."
====================================
