"Ow! I'm sorry!" the girl standing in front of me apologized.
She had short, layered brown hair, and a pair of bright amber eyes; a small face; along with skin as pale as snow. "What's a human doing in a mansion filled with demons?" I asked, slightly peeking at Satan from the corner of my eyes, as I spoke.
The girl just smiled awkwardly, but I was already in a bad mood, and my patience was no longer available to toy with. "So?" I pressured her, not noticing that I was glaring. "Did they brainwash you?"
I scoffed and left, bumping shoulders with the girl as I did so. Is there really none to hold a normal conversation with? My nerves were on the edge of blowing up, as I wondered through the endless hallways, until I spotted a familiar white haired demon walking straight in my direction. "Not this crack head," I murmured under my breath as I looked around to anything to hide among, but the hallway was completely deserted.
He probably took notice of my presence, because the gloomy aura that surrounded him quickly lightened up, a wide grin on his face, as he jogged towards me excitedly. "Oi! Yuna! "he chirped."Ya know, since it's your first time in Devildom, why dontcha stick around with me? It's not every day you can hang out with THE Great mammon!"
For a second, I could not think of any better way for a person to degrade themselves, after listening to the demon speak, maybe because this was not the image I had in mind for demons. In addition, I have wandered of the borders of Devildom and the Celestial Realm before. Then again . . . I might know why they have a human exchange student living in a mansion swarmed with demons. I shifted my gaze to mammon, who seemed to become tense upon knowing he had caught my attention. "Alright," the words curled out of my lips so coldly, that even I surprised myself.
It was not normal for me to be away from Luke, which was probably why I felt dim and hollow . . . a small amount of pure magic was reaching me from Luke. He is far away for sure. "Oi!" I snapped out of my thoughts, and glanced at Mammon, that was when I noticed I was firmly gripping his wrist.
Instantly, I let go, before awkwardly scratching the back of my head. "Sorry bout that," I apologized, casting my eyes anywhere, but the demon's ocean blue eyes. " Just spaced out for a second."
"Man, you Familiars are weirder than humans," he replied in outrage, before pulling a pair of sunset coloured glasses, and pushing them up the bridge of his nose. "Anyway, since it's not late yet, lets head out to The Fall, since Lucifer just left, because he has work to do with Diavolo."
"The Fall? What is that? Bungee jumping?" I asked cluelessly, which seemed to kick in the demon's confidence . . . or more likely arrogance.
A stupid smirk played its way to his lips, leaving me to doubt hanging out with him. His chest shivered, as a deep laugh left his lips. He did not seem to even hold back, but slowly regained his posture, and spoke," You will see soon."
His words left my ghost-like, cat ears turning sideways, as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder, and started leading me down the hallway. A silly demon is better than a demon filled with anger . . . right?
"Hey Mammon," I interrupted the demon from talking about how much he is earning for working as a model for a new magazine. "It's about Satan . . . how is he your brother if he never existed as an angel in the Celestial Realm?"
The demon's lips curled into a troubled smile, before replying in a hesitant, "Well . . .You see. . . uh umm, Satan was actually born from Lucifer's hatred towards our father, or something like that. . . It's kind of complicated to explain, kay?!"
What was the point of that question? You only have to know why they have a human wondering around a family of seven demon brothers, but if Satan was really born from Lucifer's wrath, then does that mean he never had a choice to choose his own future? No, stop overthinking, that twisted creep is none of your business, he is just another low-life demon. "Alright, time for the master escape!" I glanced at Mammon confusingly, and took notice of us standing in front of a balcony, revealing a small yard filled with dead trees, and bushes filled with bushes oriented with mirage flowers, and a slim pathway of crumbled-cobblestone leading to a small, iron gate, supported with by firm, stone walls that probably surrounded the mansion.
"See dat?" the demon excitedly spoke pointing to the small gate, with toothy grin washing over his features." It's our ticket out! You can turn to a cat right? Just jump onto one of these trees, and run straight there!"
"Why not just use the front door, like a normal person? "I asked in a matter of fact, poking the side of the white-haired demon's head. "Ow, are you sneaking out then?"
Mammon seemed to tense at my words, but i was not about run about to gossip. It would not really matter, they are demons . . . living in Devildom I would be surprised if i were to see any order in such a place, and I was not eager to stay in a large mansion just getting lost repeatedly. "No snitching," I stated," but you better buy me something yummy."
The demon's expression quickly turned into a scowl at the mention of buying me a snack. "Oi, do you have to pull Goldie into this?!" he whined.
That is right, he was the second born, Avatar of Greed. I was telling him to do something against his existence. The thought made a a chuckle slip out of my lips. This was too entertaining to be real. "So money is that important to you," I chuckled, and shook my head in disappointed.
Pathetic . . .
And he is supposed to be the second strongest among the seven demon brothers . . .
"You seem pretty cruel for an, angel's familiar," I could hear him mumble under his breath.
Was he getting offended? I patted his back. "Yeah, I am cruel," I pitifully smiled for myself, before shifting into a cat, and pouncing at one of the branches of a dead tree.
What kept us Familiars sane was us staying near our partners, and in my case staying away from Luke was slowly cutting the white string that connected us together. One thing I was sure of it was Simeon, who persuaded Luke into leaving me here for a while, but for what? I trust Simeon, but holding back my curiosity is quite the challenge. these thoughts danced inside me, until I reached the tree's stump, only have a pair of grey boots landing in front of me with a thud! Blocking my path. I looked up only to lock eyes with a pair of ocean eyes. "Ya know, you look pretty adorable, do you think I will get a lot for selling you?" the only reply he got was me shifting into my human form the second he reached out to grab me.
"Next time," I threatened, my dagger already an inch from slitting his throat," it's your face's turn."
What was I doing? Killing him was it even a option in my state. "Sorry," I spoke, placing my weapon back into its sheath," I wasn't . . . really going to kill you or anything."
I could taste the hesitation in my voice, and hopped Mammon's brain would not notice, but I was underestimating him too much, because his eyes spoke, without him saying anything. The old stories of the past seemed to sink into my thoughts, and maybe . . . Just maybe . . . What I considered a blessing . . . A saviour . . . Was actually the awakening of my chosen soul.
. . . My fate.
