Why Do We Even Bother?
Azure's POV
I sat in my chair, head in my hands. Everything was blurry, and the memory of Entrapta disappearing behind the metal doors in the fright zone. She was in there, she is still in there, trapped with those horrible people.
"What do you mean, Entrapta's alive?" Glimmer asked frantically.
"I couldn't figure out how the Horde was making such big technological advances. But it all makes sense now, they must be holding Entrapta prisoner." Bow listed off. I felt Petra's hand on my back, and I held back a whine.
"We found First One's tech in this bot. This is what Entrapta was experimenting with when-" Bow trailed off, and I lifted my head. "Before we left her in the Fright Zone." Petra pressed into my side a little and squeezed my shoulder.
"We didn't know." Petra said, and Glimmer shook her head.
"It doesn't matter. We should have gone back for her; we should have tried." Glimmer snapped.
"She got captured trying to save us." I pointed out, and Glimmer stood up.
"Well we're not leaving her there now; we've got to rescue her." Glimmer said, confidently.
"How? we can't just walk into the Fright Zone, that's how we got into this mess in the first place." Bow objected and sunk down in his chair exasperatedly.
"Maybe we don't have to. Look." Glimmer said tapping the council table.
The holographic map flickered on around the mess of bot parts. The Horde symbol hovered above Dryl, and a sickening feeling filled my stomach.
"No. The Horde took Dryl" Bow exclaimed, and Glimmer nodded with a grimace.
"We just got word. The Horde has Entrapta, and now they have Dryl. The timing cannot be a coincidence." Glimmer said bitterly, and Bow's eyes widened.
"Of course. They're making her use her own lab." Bow put together, and I looked down at the mini map of Dryl.
"We're going to the Crypto castle, we'll find Entrapta, and bring her back." I said, and Glimmer nodded as if I had read her mind.
"No Princess left behind." Petra smiled, and I nodded.
"Yes! Totally on board. Let's go get Adora." Bow said as we followed Glimmer into the hall, and Bow started to veer off.
"Adora is out training with Light Hope." Glimmer said, and we kept walking.
"What about the other princesses?" Bow asked, and Glimmer turned to face him.
"Entrapta got taken trying to save us, Bow. I won't be responsible for losing anyone else." Glimmer said, and turned forward again, and walked though Petra, and I. Bow sighed and began to follow.
Petra gave me a knowing look, and she sped up to walk with Glimmer. I stayed next to Bow, and felt my cheeks heat up.
"So, we've had a date before, but it wasn't like a date that usual people have." I said, trying to be blunt. Bow looked down at me and shrugged.
"I guess, but don't we already kind of know each other?" Bow asked, and I smirked. A challenge? So be it. I tapped my chin in mock thought.
"What is your favorite flower?" I asked and Bow shrugged.
"I saw these apricot Foxgloves once, and I thought they were pretty." He said, and I nodded, making a mental note. "Rainstorms or snow?" Bow asked, getting into this little game.
"Rainstorms, bonus if there is thunder. Yourself?" I said and Bow grinned.
"Snow is good, and all, but I prefer rain." He agreed, and I nodded again.
"Favorite smell." I said slightly more enthusiastic. Bow seamed to get into it too.
"Cinnamon." He said dreamily, and I laughed a little.
"I like cloves." He nodded in agreement.
"Chocolate or vanilla?" I thought that one over for a moment.
"If its Ice cream, then its vanilla. With cake its chocolate." I said after a moment and bow nodded.
"I like chocolate ice cream, and white cake." He laughed, and I playfully punched his shoulder.
I walked outside, and Petra looked at me with a small smile. "Can you shift?" She asked, and I nodded.
"I think I can try." I said.
Petra shuddered to life and threw herself forward a few feet in her wolf form. I took a deep breath and shuddered to life. I felt my abdomen tighten, and warm a bit, but not much pain at all. Before I knew it, I was looking down my muzzle at my paws. I looked over at Peta who was pacing. Glimmer teleported inside, and in a few minutes, she reappeared with Petra's spear, and my axe. Along with my emergency mess bag. Glimmer took hold of my fur, and began to climb onto my back, and Bow settled on Petra. Once I felt Glimmer settle in, I started moving...
We settled inside the F.O.D.S. and I looked around. I stayed in wolf form mostly because our lack of blankets, but I was also afraid to switch back. Petra understood this, and was now human herself, dividing up the dried apple, and peach packets. There was instant stew, but we did not want to risk heating up any water with a fire. It was not late, but we thought we would stop, and plan.
"The map shows two Entrances. Here, and Here." Petra said pointing to a map. "Glimmer, could you try teleporting around inside? Maybe you could locate the lab." Glimmer nodded, and Petra looked at Bow.
"You, Azure, and I will enter though the small grate in the wall. It's part of a river system, and we can easily avoid people." Petra said pointing at a section not far off from the south entrance. "We can move around her where the Horde has set up their tents. If we get in there, and keep a low profile, we can avoid suspicion." I got that much, if we were in the most populated area we would be under minimal suspicion. Firstly, the Horde would not expect us to be in their camp, it would be too dangerous for us.
"How do we waltz through the Horde camp unnoticed?" Bow asked, and Petra looked up at me, and I nodded.
Standing up, I loped over to a big dusty duffel in the corner, it was clearly marked with The Horde symbol. Every First One's Dig Sight had a Horde bag were they would store uniforms, and miscellaneous items they would snag off Horde soldiers. Always on the first level, and the only thing we kept here that was not mining equipment, or ration packs in case of cave ins. I grabbed the bag, which lowered my head with weight, and I tugged it out from under a fallen beam. I dragged it over to the group and dropped it before circling around to lay back down behind Glimmer, and Bow.
Petra shifted though the bag, pulling out the weapons most soldiers carried. After the various spoiled weapons, Petra pulled out a horde helmet, and jumpsuit. It was wrinkled permanently with the hardened stain of blood on the arm, and collar.
"So, we become prisoners?" Bow questioned, and Petra nodded.
"Exactly. But it's just until we reach the heart of the Horde camp." She explained and messed with the suit a bit before she started to pull it on over her clothes. It was baggy, made for a man, but Petra really looked like she was part of the Horde.
"If we just make you a little unrecognizable, we can head out now." Petra said, and grabbed the dusty sack before ripping open a hole in the top, and one on each side. She handed that to Glimmer, and then they stood up. Glimmer quickly pulled the sack over her head and slid her arms through. It did not do much, her hair was still outrageously pink, and purple.
I stood up, and Bow looked at me. "You going to change back now? I need a warning, because is getting a little creepy." I huffed in his face, and walked out after Petra, making sure to whack him with my tail...
Once we got close enough to Dryl, I shifted back, and Petra had me use my axe to bend the bars of the grate. We stood up to our waists in water, and I waded through the wall. Once up we began our march. Petra a useless plasma gun and managed to get us to a point where we could start the mission impossible stuff. We pressed our backs to a wall, and Glimmer split up to teleport. Bow Petra, and I slid through the camp, and came to a stop behind a tent like structure.
"Any sign of Entrapta in the castle? Bow asked, as Glimmer teleported next to us.
"Nothing. As usual that place is impossible to navigate." Glimmer groaned exasperatedly.
There was a padding off feet, and I pulled back just in time to catch sight of Catra, the well-known ex-best friend. Glimmer covered Bow's mouth and pulled him back as well. Catra stretched and yawned. She scratched her back when the tablet bleeped. With a sigh she opened the call.
"Are you on your way back? Tell me you're on your way back! Entrapta's new invention as lost it!" A boy's voice shouted from the other end. There was crashing, and shouting. Entrapta's voice.
"Pull it together You're fine." Catra was saying. Bow tapped my shoulder, and we moved in closer. If Entrapta was not here, we needed someone who knew where she was.
"Stop it! Please! Why are you doing this to me!?" I heard the voice of Entrapta shout, and I winced in sympathy pain for her.
"Entrapta's really alive!" Bow gasped, and I bared my teeth which elongated.
"And they're hurting her." I said, and Glimmer nodded disappearing in a puff of sparkles while Bow shouted.
"Wait!" But it was too late.
"Where is she?!" Glimmer shouted as she appeared in front of Catra and started making blows.
Catra threw her back, but Glimmer managed a wave of light before another arrived on the scene. Scorpia, if I remembered correctly. I bared my teeth in a snarl and watched as Glimmer distracted Scorpia. Catra made a move to help Scorpia detain Glimmer, but Bow fired an arrow just shy of her metaphorical whiskers. She then whirled on Bow who reeled back but Catra knocked him down.
Bow held her back with his weapon, and Petra, and I ran forward. I used the butt of my axe to hit Catra off Bow, and she turned on me. I bore my fangs and blocked her blows. With a swipe of her claws she cost me my axe, and we fraught hand to hand.
"Azure, Glimmer, we got to get out of here now!" Bow called, and he pulled Glimmer up. Petra already with him.
With a final burst of strength, I grabbed Catra by the arms, and swung her into Scorpia. I grabbed my axe and followed quickly. Catra used the metal structures to gain higher ground and made a dive for us. Glimmer linked arms, and I grabbed onto Petra as we were teleported away. First a hall with a row of identical paintings, then a hall that was minuscule that we all cramped into, and finally the checkered floor where we started.
"Isn't this where we started?" Bow asked, and Glimmer growled angrily.
"Ugh, I hate this place!" She snapped.
"I see the rebels sent their finest." I turned to see Catra leaning on the wall behind us. She laughed and charged us. She attacked Glimmer fist, and Petra intervened blocking Catra from Glimmer. Bow pulled an arrow but could not focus on one of them.
"Petra!" Glimmer called as we formed a chain. Petra flee towards us, but Catra managed to grab Glimmer's cape. There was a shift, then we fell faster than normal.
"Glimmer wake up!" Bow howled.
"What did you just do to me?!" Catra snarled, and Glimmer kicked out with her foot. Catra whirled though the air, and we landed hard in a pile of grass. My eyes snapped open as Bow threw himself over me and fried an arrow.
"Get back!" He called, and the arrow split into a net, and tangled with Catra's limbs, and the force pulled her back.
Bow breathed a sigh of relief, and he helped me up. Petra was already pointing her spear at Catra's throat.
"Tie her up." Petra commanded, and I nodded, taking the emergency rope, and wrapped it around Catra, cutting lose the strands, and giving Bow his arrow back...
