Seaworthy And Shiny Mustaches
Azure's POV
Arriving at Seaworthy was a synch, a sketchy synch, but still a synch. The place looked like it came right out of the pirate stories. The bar was crowded with strange folk, and new races I had never seen before, mostly Sea Elves. I stood around, trying to look distant, and unapproachable. Surprising Adora, Bow, and Glimmer I made my canines sharper, and more prominent. I wore my black shorts with the white trim my leg still wrapped, and my leather boots where scuffed, and clunky. I wore a waist length, navy blue, travel cloak.
"You're a pretty good actress." Adora winked, and me, and I nodded with a faux sneer to show of my fangs.
"Thank you." I winked, and Adora oohed at the sharpness of my fangs.
"Go fish." A Sea Elf sneered, the loser lost his temper, and flipped the table with a snarl.
Cards flew everywhere, and I puffed my hair out of my face.
"This is so cool! Seaworthy is just like I imagined it; everyone here looks like a pirate." Bow oohed, and I slowly moved Adora away from a giant mosquito like person.
"Focus, Bow. We're here to find a sea captain." Glimmer warned and Bow slumped.
"No Pirates?" Bow asked, and Glimmer shook her head.
"No Pirates." She confirmed.
"Arr..." Bow groaned in defeat.
"None of these people look qualified to sail a ship." Adora commented looking around skeptically.
Glimmer walked up to the bar and leaned over.
"Excuse me." She chuckled nervously.
She looked the bartender up. She was tall, and muscular, Glimmer winced.
"Uh, we're looking for a sea captain to take us to Salineas." Glimmer asked politely.
The woman pointed to a sheltered booth were a group of girls were gathered around a man covered with scales arm wrestling someone.
The fish man lost, and the girls groaned, and scattered. The guy got up, and left looking down.
"I won! Drinks all around, put it on my friend here's tab." Someone chuckled. I rolled my eyes.
"He sounds like he'll be really helpful." I said, still trying to intimidate.
We walked over behind Glimmer, and she looked around before talking.
"Uh, hi. We were told you were a sea captain." Glimmer said, and the man smirked.
"I am the one, and only Sea Hawk." He said leaning back with his boots on the table.
"Has my reputation proceeded me?" He asked getting up... on the table.
"Your name is Sea Hawk? That's the coolest name I've ever heard!" Bow gasped.
"Captain Sea Hawk. We're interviewing potential captains to take us to Salineas. Would you like to apply for the position?" Glimmer asked, sounding very businesslike when she sat down.
He sat back on the bench and burst out laughing. I narrowed my eyes, and bared my teeth, for real this time, he was getting on my nerves.
"Apply for the position? I am the one, and only Sea Hawk, I'm offer only." He said laugher dying down.
"Okay, just because "sea" is in your name, doesn't tell us any of your actual qualifications." Adora snapped placing her hand on the table.
"Qualifications? I once ran the 50-klick Galebreath Gauntlet in less than 20-klicks. I once maneuvered the serpentine with nary a chip in the paint of my bow! My shanties are considered so desirable, that sirens fling themselves into the sea at the sound of them." Be bragged, then paused to smirk at me.
"And because I can tell you're wondering; my mustache is naturally shiny." He said sliding a thumb over his mustache.
I rolled my eyes.
"I was actually thinking of how many ways I can murder you." I grumbled but no one heard except for Adora who choked back a snicker.
Bow leaned in staring at the mustache. "It is shiny! You're hired."
Glimmer elbowed him.
"Whoa there, kids. What makes you think you can afford me?" He smirked slyly. I did not like this.
"I assure you Captain Sea Hawk; money is no object." Glimmer said calmly.
He then slid his hand into his shirt and pulled out a small piece of paper.
"Behold my fee." He said.
Hesitantly Glimmer took the paper and opened it up. I leaned in. My eyes widened.
"Money might be an object." Glimmer winced.
"That's four more zeros than we have on us right now." I added solemnly.
"You know what? Fine, we'll just find ourselves another sea captain." Glimmer said standing.
We stared to head away from the table when he spoke again.
"Good luck with that. You wouldn't find another soul who knows the treacherous route to Salineas like I do. I brave it often to visit my close, personal friend Princess Mermista." Sea Hawk smirked.
He was not lying from what I could tell. Glimmer looked to me for confirmation, and I nodded hesitantly.
"You know her?" Glimmer asked.
"Do I?" Sea Hawk cocked a brow.
Oh no way he is getting money for information. I growled low in my throat, but Adora beat me to him.
"Okay, well, here's the deal, one round winner takes all." She said placing her elbow on the table.
"You win, we leave you alone. I win, you take us to Salineas, at no cost." She added with a tilt of her brow.
Sea Hawk looked stunned for a moment wide eyed.
"That is a terrible deal, but I am undefeated at arm wrestling. Let me show you how it's done lassie." He said gripping her hand in his.
He was taller, and had a longer arm, not to mention boys usually have more upper body strength than girls. They went into the wrestle right away. Sea Hawk did not break a sweat, Adora however managed to keep in in place, but looked like she was struggling.
"Go Adora! Put him in the dirt!" Bow cheered.
"This is so dumb." Glimmer groaned.
I could not help but crack a smile at the competition.
"Ha! Is this the best you've got?" Sea Hawk taunted.
"I once beat a Tyrosaur with biceps the size of my head in an arm-wrestling match that lasted two weeks." Adora gritted her teeth and slammed his hand down.
She won.
"Yeah!" Bow cheered and clapped.
Sea Hawk looked surprised and examined his hand as if it had somehow betrayed him.
"Truth be told, I let you win as to, ahem, boost your confidence." He lied, and I nodded slowly.
He jumped over the table and grabbed Glimmer in a side hug. "
I've been wanting to go to Salineas anyway. Come on kids, with me! Forward to Adventure!" He shouted.
Glimmer looked bored under the circumstances. I found this all rather... entertaining...
