42 - A Stronghold's Last Stand

=================

The red pillar in the sky dissipated and the person on the other side was none other than Observer.

She was surprised by the existence of an deflector shield surrounding the entire island. As she thought by the time she finished preparing, the coasts would've been already damaged, apparently not this time.

Not only that, there was island-based defences like the massive cannons that Azur Lane also has on the island itself shooting comfortably at the Sirens, thinning them out.

And Azur Lane's preparedness for this battle annoyed Observer.

Her eyes glowed as more red pillars of light appear from all over the island, summoning Sirens by the waves, while also adding portals in the mix where Siren frigates, cruisers and some aircraft carriers got out and let out their ammunition towards the inconvenient deflector shield that has the Sirens stone-walled.

Meanwhile inside of the deflector shield, while everyone went ahead and started to shoot the Sirens surrounding the shield instead of waiting for the shield to break, some girls went past that and leapt out from the protection of the shield to fight the Sirens head-on.

First, it was the entirety of Ironblood who together got out of the shield to face the Sirens with all their might.

Next up, it was New Jersey from the Eagle Union. Finally her chance to fight where it matters most. Along with her cohorts that came along with her to get here. San Francisco, and Boise.

With the Siren's attention divided between New Jersey and the entirety of Ironblood, it gave encouragement for the other girls to also jump out of the shield and fight the Sirens head-on.

This in turn, gave the deflector shield a lot of juice to keep itself active as the Sirens weren't focusing on it anymore. This also gave valuable time for the little destroyers to be safely put into the underground bunkers for maximum protection, as they can't just sneakily leave the island unnoticed.

Last time they tried that, 2 destroyers died on Yorktown's watch. Not exactly an optimal escape plan.

A-kun: Sorry for that rough flashback to messed up times, guys.

Observer still kept watching from a striking distance from the action. Detecting how many girls they're gonna have to go through, and trying to find Caster with x-ray if he's secretly lurking around as he always does. First, she didn't expect the all-powerful New Jersey to be present in this battle. Surprised that she went all this way to join Caster, now this battle is now looking an uphill battle, not for Azur Lane, but for the Sirens.

Though a much more pressing matter for Observer is that deflector shield is still present, being a sore in Observer's eyes. And so she's doing something about it.

By opening a massive portal in the near the base. And simultaneously the Sirens fell back and opted for ranged fire, as a massive Siren Aircraft Carrier was peaking through about to hit the shield.

Some of the girls reported this to Akashi and the Monitor duo and was about to drop the whole shield, but it was too late as the heaviness of the carrier was too much for the shield and tore a hole through it, and by the time that the monitors dropped the shield, it caused so much burden that it can't be used for the rest of the battle without stalling the battle out. And in that case, Azur Lane might as well lose if they prolong the battle.

So the shield drops, and the Sirens are free to wreck havoc to the buildings that the island has and turn the island hell on Earth. And for Observer, there's only one mission for her.

Finding Caster.

Until she got interrupted by the entire posse of PR ships who managed to sneak by unnoticed from the other Sirens and got the jump on her, forcing her to start fighting on the wrong foot, but somehow doesn't damage her and Observer opted to summon more Sirens as body shields for her to give herself time.

Neptune, Saint Louis, Gascogne, and Cheshire and Drake at the back with ranged support while the 2 Ironblood PRs are with their own faction to boost the staying power.

"You don't belong here..." said Observer... Before disappearing in a flash.

"NEPTUNE!"

Observer reappeared right in front of Neptune, who had her guard lowered making way for Observer to exploit for a clean, wide slash on her mid-section. And smashed her to the water, bleeding out. Making the PR ships scramble to help her.

And the sudden defensive style that the PR ships pivoted to gave Observer the chance to fly away towards the base and actually start finding Caster.

The entire scale of the fight didn't matter to Observer. In her mind, if she kills Caster even before he can even fight, their morale is sunk, and will snowball into a commanding win. And she was confident that it will work.

And she started to enact that plan by turning some buildings into ashes from above.

It wasn't optimal, and she's sticking out like a sore thumb was the worst part. She did managed to destroy the on-base cannons that was basically large targets for her to destroy. But after 2 buildings she saw the error of her ways and opted to turn on her infrared mode to seek out that human.

And she pre-configured it to only see human body heat. Ignoring all ship girl in her sights. And soon enough, she found the building where he is residing.

But now that she knows where he is, she doesn't wanna nuke the building outright.

No, no, no...

The humiliation that she suffered from Caster from a long time ago where he managed to fool her and kill her the first time still nagged at her and her pride isn't just satisfied by nuking the building.

She wants him, dying at her hands.

And the opportunity was right there.

She flew towards the building, until...

Something rammed into Observer and sent her flying back. No time to for Observer to react as Tirpitz suddenly came to the rescue due to a premonition that Caster was in danger.

Tirpitz had prepared for this exact 1v1 scenario. With expanding her ammunitions to be able to keep shooting at the ground and stay up in the air to fight Observer as she can't fly like other great aces or rather, CVs in other factions.

Then Akagi, Enterprise and Hood was now on top of the building where Caster is situated, being the last line of defence. With their presence not really weakening the front-lines as the powerful newcomers can easily fill in the gap.

Observer while trying to fight Tirpitz tried sending her powerful lasers to put holes onto the building but Enterprise and Akagi would just send out planes for a sacrifice to stop the laser from hitting its mark.

This is also the first time that Akagi has seen Observer since she betrayed her at the Sakura Empire territories. And filled with "love", she flew high and started to fight Observer along with Tirpitz.

And Akagi made Observer's objective even harder. And she was forced to play defensive even more, and Akagi was something else in this battle. As her determination burned brightest, and with her sending waves upon waves of planes with what it seems like unlimited stamina.

And not for long, they managed to injure Observer enough to make her back off, and cut 2 of her tentacles off from Tirpitz's spear.

Anger soon filled Observer as she dashed towards Tirpitz, but blocked by her spear.

She tried to snap it in half as she failed last time, but it wasn't showing a single crack, learning from last time. And Akagi's planes got some shots at her while distraught with her strength not able to break the spear.

But Observer again was swift for a counter-attack and tackled and one of her tentacles hit Akagi's hips, to force her to the ground. The tackle was safely managed by Hood who managed to catch her but the damage is already done. As she can't stand up for a while.

This now left Tirpitz, who finally finished collecting herself for another bout. As she used her guns to get to the air again, Observer dashed towards her.

The last beaming pillar of the Ironblood breathed in, and simply said:

"For Azur Lane."

The fight once again began. Observer dashed horizontally in a very erratic and unpredictable pattern, but nearly all movement from the Siren, Tirpitz was keeping up. Never letting her to use the lasers that was the most dangerous thing in her set of weapons.

Instead it was almost restricted to close combat where Tirpitz obviously has the advantage. A kick from the Observer sent her back, but her guns just would not fail and still leaped in the air with the momentum of her shell shots catapulting her up.

The Siren started to pick up speed, and finally was able to use her lasers from a distance while Tirpitz is now struggling to stay with her. But every shot at either Tirpitz or the building where Caster is still getting either deflected on stopped dead in its tracks by aces Enterprise and Hood.

The battle kept on going for Tirpitz and Observer. With a lot of swerving and dodging from the Siren. Almost as if Observer knew that Tirpitz's power of flight is only temporary and will run of munitions soon and be subject to a very vulnerable state in a free-fall.

Sounds of clicking from Tirpitz's guns only confirmed this. She started falling down back to Earth, her spear ready to retaliate from an inevitable attack.

Observer smelled blood in the air, as it was holding back on its top speed, now starting to show it with speed that look liked teleporting for an unskilled eye.

Tirpitz tried to cover for every angle, and even Enterprise decided to jump and ride a plane, trying to disrupt Observer, but it was too late.

A quick slice on Tirpitz's midsection did the trick.

"TIRPITZ!!!" shouted Enterprise.

=================

A loud shout was unmistakably from Enterprise, shouting Tirpitz's name, has gotten everyone's attention from the Ironblood.

And some of them wanted to step away and go find her.

Eugen had a choice to make.

"DO NOT LEAVE! Tirpitz is strong! She will not fall just like that. We'll keep fighting for her!" Eugen commanded everyone.

Everyone kept silent, and kept fighting.

=================

Tirpitz landed far away from the building that was supposed to house Caster in. Enterprise, and Hood came to her aid.

"Leave me here... Don't let me burden you..."

"Protect... Caster..."

Enterprise and Hood were now in a split-second decision to do either one of those things.

But Akashi came out of the wood-works, and started to heal Tirpitz.

"Don't worry about it, nya." She smirked in her signature smug expression. "I saved the best for last."

=================

As for the Observer Alpha, she just wanted this advantage to be hers as the battle was looking like it's going the Coalition's way. And so a massive unified laser blast to the building will do the trick.

No Enterprise, Hood and Akagi to defend the building, and a near guaranteed death for Tirpitz.

Nothing can stop her now.

"Breathe your final breath." said Observer before releasing the charged laser shot.

FWOOSH!

"AGHH!!!" A shout of pain came over Observer. She felt her tentacles was toasted, and it was. 3 tentacles flat out disappeared. And she looked behind her and found out her cannon shot was now going to space.

It was deflected.

But by whom?

She turned around back to the building to find her answer. And all she saw was a massive blade. But then snapped back to it's owner.

"That made me feel stronger... Commander, this is for you." said Ayanami... To herself?

"I feel motivated now... Condition: Green... Let's go."

"Commander, you're efforts into making us stronger, we will not disappoint you. Bring it on!" shouted Javelin as she pointed her shiny new spear at Observer.

"We're now powerful enough to take any threat! This is for the Commander, and Tirpitz!" announced Z23.

The 4 newly retrofitted ship girls all gather up at the roof where Enterprise and Hood was once.

The first girls that found him. Befriended and now, loved enough that they were ready to die for him. With this new gear, they could protect him from the direst of threats and then some.

Observer dashed towards the building, avoiding the shells that 4 starters. Until Ayanami dashed forward to meet the Siren.

The 2 stood in a stand-still, until Javelin joined in and it was an aerial battle once again, Observer is getting bogged down thrice. But now with Z23 and Laffey's heavy long-range support to back the 2 melee users up.

Hood, Enterprise, and the recently-healed Akagi has come back to the roof. And the 3 were impressed with the starter's new gear and ableness to keep up with Observer.

Z23 took the time to ask some questions: "Is the Commander still having his surgery?"

Hood pulled back her long sleeve in her left hand to look at the watch. "We won't know for sure until we step into the building. But that is not an option with an imminent threat right above us."

"Are you sure that you can keep her at bay?" Enterprise looked at Z23, who was still providing support from the ground.

"We can hold her back, Enterprise. You should go to the south side of the island. Your comrades there are slowly getting pushed back." said Z23.

"Okay. I'm on it." Enterprise simply said before riding a plane to get there faster.

Hood and Akagi gave each other glances... It does look like the starters are powerful and confident enough to keep her at bay and so Akagi left as well to go to her comrades and help. Hood stayed however, just for insurance. And took the time to go into the building itself.

Observer, sick of being stopped over and over and over again, has switched into another gear. After sending Ayanami and Javelin far back with respective parries to their weapons, she enveloped herself in a green ball of energy and started to dash towards the building one more time.

All shells that made contact to her green orb of chaos was just neutered. And both Z23 and Laffey braced for impact.

"Here I come!!!!!!"

But it wasn't from Observer. Instead, the Siren got shot out of the air and sent flying once again.

The figure passed them just as fast as she rammed Observer out of the air.

And she wasn't even done as the ramming didn't do anything to change her trajectory and so she kept going, and she hit a Siren Cruiser, tore a hole in it, and sinking in an instant.

Observer's trajectory was obviously quite different, as she was falling to the west side's shores and the girls on said shores saw this and was about to pile on the damage on her since she look unconscious, only they're waiting for is for her to get close to the ground so they unload all ammunition where their accuracy is guaranteed.

However, Observer managed to recover and as she's about to hit the ground, all of her tentacles glow.

One powerful girl in the vicinity was Royal Navy's Formidable. And she looked around her than everyone near her is either weak Cruisers, and some Heavy Cruisers.

Didn't matter, if she gets this laser blast off, it'll hurt everyone.

And Formidable might just have the solution.

Problem is, she's never used it in battle.

"Don't... Move An Inch!" She shouted, and Observer speed relative to time has been slowed down. Everyone else who witnessed that new, ridiculous ability, was floored and froze in place.

She pointed everyone to leave the vicinity but everyone was a bit slow doing so. As she anxiously waits for new ability's time to subside.

Observer finally got out of the time-slowing ability, and let out the all-out attack. All of her tentacles having snappiness that a tentacles shouldn't have as it makes a light show out of everything around her. With her lasers piercing anything and everything.

Everyone in the vicinity didn't manage to find adequate cover in time, and the lasers were snapping towards the nearby girls, Formidable included. Hitting almost all of them.

The durability of the girls made them survive the hit, they're all gravely injured.

With no resistance, Observer stood up, called more Sirens to finish them off as she teleports away. The Sirens come, and with Formidable sending out planes in desperation, looked like it's ov-

"Not on my watch!" Someone shouted as multiple shells hit the Sirens that was about to execute Formidable and others.

New Jersey came onto Formidable field of view, as she, San Fran, and Boise, started to kill the Sirens and New Jersey kicked a Siren so hard to the face she punted the monster straight into the ocean to sink.

"Find some help, and get them healed up, I'll finally fight Observer myself." said New Jersey before leaping into the air, as Boise and San Francisco nodded.

More Siren started dropping in as support. But for some reason they were dropping dead even before Boise or San Francisco can shoot back at them.

It wasn't shells that killed them... It was something else.

=================

Observer in above the building Caster is in, and was in the process of shooting it down finally. There was no resistance at all, it was perfect.

In a split second, New Jersey caught up to her and was right beside Observer and next, she was now trapped in a tight bind by the Observer with half of her tentacles occupied in trapping her.

"Don't you dare interrupt me."

And she shot at the building finally, and vaporizing it. She used her eyes once again, to spot anything in the wreckage through the smoke. Nothing was there. A good sign, but there was no confirmation, nor a body to really put the nail in the coffin.

She lowered herself and struggling New Jersey into the wreckage, and there was nothing. All black char everywhere from the extreme heat.

This revelation gave New Jersey enough time to kick Observer to the chin due to her lowering her guard trying to find Caster's corpse. Not only that, the kick also managed to stun her.

The bind really hurt New Jersey badly, and went away for a quick heal...

The stunned Siren used the radio interceptor that she used the last time she and Azur Lane encountered each other and somehow didn't use for the entire length of the fight. She tried chiming in to the radio communications.

After some yelling for help, etc. A unknown voice spoke: "Caster is alive."

And after that a massive yell of joy from everyone, followed by silent, fuming rage from the Observer, she teleported herself to the middle of the ocean.

She put out her palm, and from it came a hologram with a percentage meter which said: "100%, Ready to Deploy."

And so she did.

=================

A massive pillar of red energy formed around Observer in a perimeter, shaking the entire Earth as she does it, as all the attention of Azur Lane and her Siren "comrades" was on her.

The ground rumbled even more, emulating that of an earthquake, as the sea also started to shake as well, as the bright red pillar of light subsided, and from the sea, through it came a monstrously sized ship, size of multiple football stadiums, the sides of which it had rows upon rows of battleship cannons and its center were two gigantic sized cannons, each were a hundred meters long and hundred meters tall which looked nothing the battleship cannons.

"At last," she said, smiling and raising her hands up to welcome the massive behemoth that just came out of the sea, "Feast your eyes upon my greatest creation yet!"

"The Dreadnought." Her shout, echoed through the waves, and hit everyone's ears.

The resulting tsunamis that came from the Dreadnought appearing literally sank the beaches of the Azur Lane island, sweeping girls away in the process.

Then one of the battleship cannons took aim at the once dry beaches of the island and shot its welcoming shot.

Along with the massive blast that send some girls flying, the a sizeable land nearby the beach was completely vaporized.

Everyone fell into despair as they saw the Siren's Trump Card, and its damage.

And it's just getting started.
