Interview with the Author

1) What inspired you into writing?

-I've always had the itch I think. I just one day decided to put it down onto paper. I created my own ending to a movie (Firehouse Dog) because I didn't like the ending they'd provided, I thought it was too cheesy. And then from there I began to develop my own stories.

2) What are the works written by you?

-Errors of the Heart

-Enduring the Fire & Ashes

-Living with the Walker Boys & Here to Win

-One of the Boys

-Monroe Academy for the Arts

-Learning to Dance in the Rain

-Along For the Ride & You Belong With Me

-Coming Together

-Recreating Kasey Taylor

-The Golden Couple

-My Brother's Best Friend & Jefferson Lake

3) How was the journey of writing 'My Brother's Best Friend'has been like?

-It was a roller coaster. I had an idea of where I wanted the story to go where I started, but the story had it's ups and downs and lefts and rights and it got a little crazy. But I'm happy to say that everything tied together in the end.

4) What is the story about and who is your favorite character?

-The story is about a girl named Emily Winston who moves back home after a year of being away, only to discover that her brother has acquired another roommate while she was gone, his best friend Parker Adams, who she despises. It follows Parker & Emily's relationship unfolding, diving into both of their surprising pasts and secrets and taking you in places you never expected to be.

-My favorite character would have to be Lee Adams. He's spunky, lovable and someone you can't help but want to squish up real tight.

5) Did you thought you would win the Wattys? How was the entire experience?

-No I did not. I've been entering stories in the Watty Awards since 2012, and never have any of them won. So when I logged onto Wattpad and saw my name listed there, I jumped up and ran over to my dad, who had absolutely no idea what was happening, and practically had like a meltdown.

6) How did you promoted your book?

-For the People's Choice Award? I informed my followers that we had a little over 24 hours before the contest ended, so my amazing followers pretty much overtook Twitter and we began a 24-hour last minute hoorah for My Brother's Best Friend.

7) What are the things that a writer must keep in mind while :

a) Constructing a plot

-It has to be something relatable, yet something that people still want to read about. Your loose ends all have to tie together in the end, and plot holes are never a good idea.

b) Choosing a title

-For me, the title is always the hardest part. It has to relate to the story and sum it up all in just a couple of words. It's the first thing to catch people's attention. I always take my plot line into consideration, along with my characters and their personalities and my story description and where I'm trying to take my story, what general direction. And then try to form something out of that.

c) Sketching characters

-Characters are the best part for me. I love creating people. Your main character has to be someone that people either want to love or hate. It has to be someone that people feel strongly about. And then you have to have side characters in order to build a healthy plot line, people that aren't always in the story but that people still fall in love with.

8) Who designed your book cover? How was the entire process like?

-beingellie has all the credit for that beautiful book cover. Shoutout to them. People email me book covers on a daily basis, and when she emailed me hers I knew it was the one.

9) Now, that you've made it to the Wattys, what are your future plans where writing/publishing is concerned?

-That's a great question. I don't really know if I've given it too much thought yet. As some people know, I'm a Finalist for the Hot Keys contest, so I'm waiting that out to see where it takes me. But right now I'm really just focusing on my schoolwork and writing for me.

10) What is the latest work on your desk?

-Oh my goodness I can't believe I'm going to put this on Wattpad.. Because once I put it out there it's true. Okay, here it goes. I wrote a third book for the Along For the Ride series. It's called Undying Love and it's in Jesse's POV.

-If you haven't read You Belong With Me (all the way through the very, very end) then you probably shouldn't read this little part here because it's a spoiler. But this book will pick off right where You Belong With Me ended. Like right where it ended. But it's in Jesse's POV, and it focuses on his & Sydney's marriage. What happened to them? Why is it falling apart? What can they do to rebuild it?

-It's a bit more adult than I've ever written, but I'm excited to write it. And I think people will enjoy it just the same.

11) How do you proofread/edit your works or do you get it done by someone else?

-I have an edior, oreo2395. She's amazing, when I actually send her my work to proofread. I'm lazy about 95% of the time and I just post it. But if I do send it to her ahead of the time, she usually catches most of my mistakes.

12) How has been the reviews and comments to your book 'My Brother's Best Friend' has been like?

-Mixed. People don't always like Emily, don't always agree with her decisions. And I can understand that. And then people don't always like Emmett/Parker or agree with their decisions. And again, I can respect that. You're not meant to love every moment of every character.

-But if there's one thing that's definite, it's that people love Lee Adams.

13) Books, songs and movies that inspired you?

-For My Brother's Best Friend?

-I was actually inspired by society itself. I noticed that society puts out this "perfect" image for young girl's to achieve, something impossible because we're an imperfect society. And I noticed that as I read books and watched movies that these girls and boys were being displayed as these perfect people that you fall in love with and want to be like or find someone like, but it's not possible because they don't exist.

-So I created a book full of imperfect people and stuck them in an apartment together. And let it unfold from there.

14) How can readers discover more about you and your work?

(Share websites, if any)

-Find me on Facebook. www.facebook.com/wattpadknightsrachel

15) Your message to readers/followers.

-I love each and every one of you. You inspire me to be greater and to do better. I wouldn't be where I am today without you. I wouldn't have won a Watty Award with you. Kisses, hugs, you guys are amazing.
