Tw: Explosion, burns, sore back

Adelaide Thomas' pov

"Cole," I groan as I heave myself up the roofs of the palace "is this necessary?"
He ignores my comments with a focused grunt. I jump onto the next roof in silence as Cole distractedly leads the training. We soon reach the top and Cole takes off his mask. I do the same and smile at him.
"Thanks for doing this with me," he whispers.

"Any time." I murmur back. Then we bask in the comfortable silence as we look down at all of Ninjago City. Shadows litter the courtyard and I sit down. I dangle my legs dangerously off the edge.

"Hey look," I hiss. "Hutchins!"

The man walks quickly across the yard failing to be discreet. Cole nudges me.

"Let's see what this bastard is up to." We jump down the shingles without a sound and attempt to get a closer look. I trip and wave my arms for balance. Cole grabs me by the scruff of my gi and hauls me away from the edge. I mumble a thanks before turning back to the man walking below us.

The older man looks around before messing around with a big stone. The rock moves to the right and reveals a sunken set of stairs and I gasp.
"That's kinda cool, even if we hate him that's awesome," I whisper in awe.

"Yeah, but he's getting away!" Cole flips down off the roof and I follow.
He runs across the courtyard and reaches the opening in the ground, without a hesitation Cole ran down the stairs.

"Oh, fuck this." I mutter to myself before running after him. Cole runs down the hall, and the greasy figure ahead of him turns right. He halts and presses to the wall. I scrunch my nose at the overwhelming dryness in the air and pull my mask on. He looks at me and I gulp. We shimmy across the halls and the unmistakable crushing dread fills me.

My chest tightens and my breaths get more difficult to continue. I am the peach ninja, I am not scared. I am not scared. I am not scared.

I slowly turn the corner with Cole and see glowing things strapped to the ceiling.

"Blast zap," Cole whispers.
"Explosives," I breathe.

I am the peach ninja, I am very scared. I am terrified. I am the peach ninja and I am going to die by being blown up in this crusty brick hallway.

My chest tightens even more and I breathe in even shallower pants.

"Guys? We've got a problem! There's blast zap down in the basement, blast zap!! Me and Adelaide are down in this tunnel thing and there's a whole bunch of it!"

(Remember, Lloyd and the others can only hear bits of this, they hear only blast zap, and a few other words)

"Cole, you're not coming in you have a bad signal!" I hear Lloyd use the comm and I stomp my foot in frustration

"UuGGHhH! They can't hear us but we can hear them!" My complaints quickly turn into a quiet sob "we need to get out of here, we're gonna die,"

The blast zap begins to bubble and rumble and I flinch.

"Yeeeeahhh toothpick, that sounds great right about now!" He turns tail and sprints down the hallway we came through.

"We've got to get everyone out of here!The palace is rigged to explode!" I say on the comm.

"Shit!" Jay exclaims. I laugh in spite of the situation. Stupid coping mechanism.

"It was Hutchins," Cole adds.
"We have to get the royal family out of here!"kai says in the comm.

IF EXPLOSIONS TRIGGER YOU DONT READ UNTIL I SAY ITS OVER ❤️

Fire hits my back and blasts me out of the hallway. I scream in pain. I smell brunt hair and my ears ring. I didn't make it out of here in time, and I am going to die. My voice grows horse and I have never felt this much physical pain before. I get flung through the air like a toy.

What goes up, must always come down.

I exclaim in pain as I land face down on the grass. Cole lands further off. My vision swims and I don't move. I can't bring myself to move. My legs are singed, back is blistering probably. In a feeble attempt, I look to the left to see my arm. The flesh is red and angry and the back of my gi is fully burned off.

"Cole?" I ask, but all that leaves me is a whimper. I cough and my whole body shakes on the ground. I can't help but watch form the grass as the rest of the palace explodes. My face gets bombarded by a sweep of hot air.

"Adelaide?" I hear distantly. I can't do anything, get up, speak. I feel warm hands check my pulse and blow out a sigh of relief.
"Since when we're you protecting me, kiddo? You saved me-took most of the flame," Cole blabs as he checks me over.
"Stay awake," he pleads. I groan without meaning to as he gently touches my back.
I can't die from fire, that's dumb. I decide. I shakily begin moving.

(Poor Kai😭😭)

"We need to get out of here," I rasp as I watch another part of the building explode. Cole puts my brunt arm around his shoulders and he half drags half carries me away.
Cole brings me through the ruined palace and I hear a manic shrieking.
"Of course," I cough. "Sons of Garmadon." Cole sets me down and I wobble on my feet.

You should be okay from here. Basically, the blast zap blew up and Adelaide got the worst of it on her back side. She is definitely in pain.

He hops over a discarded motorcycle and I slowly ease myself over it.

We circle around a red masked figure.

"Hands in the air,"

"We've got you," I add with a quiet voice. He pulls out an odd mask with white features and I recognize it. I recoil slightly.

"The mask of vengeance," Jay whispers.

The mysterious man puts it on and beams of light shoot out his eyes.

"Umm- incase you haven't noticed, light's MY THING!" I shout at him. The realization ends with a bout of coughing. I lean on a nearby pole for support. I squeeze my eyes shut and slowly turn back to the biker. I slowly open my eyes and notice his limbs are all covered with an orange dancing flame.

"Really, four arms?" Jay scoffs "like that's new!" He makes a noise as he shows off his nunchucks. I light my hands with a peachy glow and shift into a fighting stance.
I shoot a ball of light at him as he abruptly runs towards Cole, Kai, Jay and me. I dodge his four swords and shoot his back. He grunts and flips back behind me. With a quick kick to my scorched back, I eat it and topple over.

He turns to fight Kai and Cole and they attack him head on. Cole swings his hammer and Kai uses his katanas by his torso.
Cole sends a bought of dust at the man and Nya and Kai summon their elemental powers. They blast them at him in a synchronized fashion, but he blocks it with his body, unharmed.

"Aww!" Kai groans.

"Cant any of us beat him?" Jay asks desperately. I shakily get up and rejoin the fight. Jay shoots him with lighting and I shoot him with light. He absorbs it and a tidal wave of light and lightning knocks all of us down. The man breaks the glass and grabs the mask.

"Oh come on!" I hiss. Kai moves his hand and shoots fire at the orange mask in the mystery person's hands. It immediately turns into soot and I gasp.

"Kai! What the hell did you do?!"

"Uhhhh-" he replies. "We'll that didn't go as planned..!"

"No shit," I retort.

"Umm, I think my brother just destroyed the mask of deception," Nya says on the comm.

"WHAT?" Lloyd yelps. I rub my ears from his scream.

The building rumbles and Cole grabs my arm.

"That can't be good!"

"Ohmyfuckingfirstspinjitsumasterimgoingtodie!" I repeat over and over again until I stand up and begin to run.

"Where's Lloyd?" Kai shouts.

"I don't know!" Cole shouts equally as loud.

"We've gotta get out of here!" I say groggily. The adrenaline slowly wears off and I get slower.

"Come on toothpick!" Cole says with a grunt. "We're toast if we don't get out of here!"
My vision swims again and I teeter.

"Just give her here," Kai urges. Cole helps me over gently and Kai gives me a small smile.

"Up you go!" He says before lifting me onto his shoulder firefighter style.

"You good up there?" Jay asks he doesn't stop running and Kai resumes his sprinting. I bounce on his shoulder with every step, with a small 'ouch!'

"I would suggest immediate medical treatment, most of her backside has second degree burns that will need attention, also she is in critical fatigue," Zane says with a worried glance.

"That sounds nice," I mutter. I see the palace burn from Kai's shoulder, and try to keep myself from blacking out.

We manage to climb on top of a high bridge and the bounty soars towards us.

"Oh thank the first Spinjitzu master," I sigh.

I try to squirm off of Kai's shoulder and he shakes his head.
"Just let me do this for you, please." His voice implies no arguing and I lie limp with a sigh.

"What happened?" Lloyd gasps from on the ship. Kai races to my room and lays me face down on my bed.

"We were in t-the cave and the blast- and it's all my fault b-because I should've protected her and she's j-j-just a kid," Cole says with a small sob. I hear a small movement and then my head.
Everyone wraps around Cole wordlessly and his sobs break off.

"If it's your fault, I'm a damn bird," I mumble through the bed sheets. Everyone laughs, even Harumi, who stands on the outside of the embrace.

"We should really go to the bridge," Lloyd breaks the silence. He looks at me with a worried frown.

"I'll be okay, promise." He nods and leaves the room. Everyone slowly files out and I'm left alone with my thoughts.

Cole Broosktone's pov

We go to the bridge in silence until Harumi breaks it.

"The emperor and empress?" She asks desperately. "Where is Hutchins? Did they..?" I look away guiltily.

"I'm sorry princess, they didn't make it," Nya walks up to her and puts a hand on her shoulder. Harumi turns and looks away, at the wreaked palace.

I felt terrible for her, in the short time of an hour or so, she lost everything.

"But what about the mask?" Kai whispers to Lloyd. He shakes his head.

"I promise you," Kai says loudly. "We'll find the people responsible for this."

Lloyd walks up to the somber princess with a small smile of encouragement.

"Once again, I am alone..." the jade princess sighs.

"You're with us now," Lloyd says " and we'll make sure to find out who's behind all this. They are not going to get away." We lift off on that note, wind whipping through everyone's hair and sail off.
