Chapter 2

Astrid's POV

"Oh gods Astrid why do you have to be so dumb around him! He's just a boy!" I whispered loudly at myself as soon as I was out of earshot from anybody.

I've liked Hiccup for years but I've never had the courage to ask him if he likes me. I always sound so dumb around him. I hate that I sound so dumb! He's just so cute with his lopsided smile and his sparkling emerald eyes and the way he ruffles his messy brown hair just makes my heart flutter! Oh gods Astrid get a hold of yourself.

I was walking in the woods and I heard a loud thud. It sounded like a dragon. Oh gods what if it's Hiccup. I hid behind a rock and peeked over. I saw a large red dragon with a person on it.

"Snotlout? What are you doing here?" I said, confused but relieved because it wasn't Hiccup.

"Oh hey Astrid. I was just flying with Hookfang when he started going down to this clearing. I don't know if he's tired or just doesn't wanna fly with me anymore." Snotlout said as Hookfang stood up and flew away.

"NO HOOKFANG COME BACK!" Snotlout shouted into the sky.

"It's alright. I'll call Stormfly and get us a ride home." I said.

"Ok thanks Astrid. But maybe later. Now that I'm here I wanna ask you something." He said. Oh gods. Is he gonna ask me on a date? "Do you wanna maybe go on a date sometime?"

I was stunned. I didn't know what to say. He's been my friend forever but I like Hiccup. The date would just be awkward.

"Oh... Uh..." Oh gods he's gonna be so heartbroken. "I don't think that's a good idea Snotlout. I mean I like you but I don't LIKE you. If you get what I mean. I'm sorry." I said sadly because I hated breaking his heart.

"It's Hiccup isn't it. I know you like him." He said obviously seeing past my lie.

"How did you know!!??" I shouted. Oops.

"It's obvious. If Ruffnut and Tuffnut could pick up on it if course I can pick up on it." He said getting cocky at the end.

"You're not too smarter then them Snotlout." I said with sass.

"Mean." He said obviously knowing I was right. As always. Ok not always.

"C'mon let's go home it's getting dark." I called Stormfly and we flew back to the village.

Hiccups POV

I was waking through the public square when I saw Stormfly.

"Hey Astrid! Oh hey Snotlout you know I just saw Hookfang at the academy. You might wanna get him before my dad sees him." I said, wanting him to leave.

"Oh thank Thor! Thanks cousin!" Snotlout said.

I looked at Astrid as Snotlout ran to the academy.

"So what were you doing with Snotlout?" I said, wiggling my eyebrows.

"Don't even think that we were on a date. That is absolutely disgusting!" She shouted at me.

"Alright I believe you." I said, yet again, wiggling my eyebrows.
