Today I met my aunt on my mom's side. Yay! I also met a few of her cousins too. We're eating lunch in a Chinese restaurant.

They heard that I go to an international school, so they're all speaking English to me. Which is fine by me. Since I speak English most of the time.

But don't forget, I understand Cantonese and Putonghua as well.

In Hong Kong and China, we usually have family lunches together at a Chinese dimsum restaurant.

The difference between Chinese and Western meals is that Western people usually stick to their own plate when they eat, but in China, we usually have a bowl of rice each and there are other plates of food in front of us.

So then right now, we're sitting around the round table, and we're all eating and chatting, and everyone can hear what one person is saying.

Pretty normal, right?

But then all of a sudden, my aunt brings up her open head surgery and starts talking about it in a very descriptive way. In Cantonese.

Do you think I understood all that? Yes I did.

So then she and my mom's other three cousins are at the table talking about her surgery. And I get really uncomfortable when we talk about blood and surgeries and all that.

Since they think I'm weaker at Chinese, they speak Chinese so hopefully I don't understand what they're saying. But unfortunately, I do.

And I'm sitting right next to her. But I didn't interrupt their conversation cuz I didn't want to be rude.

I mean, I don't mind sitting next to her and she's my aunt. I have completely no problem with that.

But please, just PLEASE, don't assume that I don't understand Chinese because I'm not as fluent as I am with English.

Even though there are some words that I don't understand or some phrases that I don't get, I still know the basic meaning of what you're trying to say.

And plus, we're eating. You don't really talk about these things when you're eating. It's kinda gross.

Okay that was sehr uncomfortable. I'm glad they're not talking about the surgery anymore.

Phew.

I feel so full. I stuffed myself with so much food. I wanna go watch Black Butler and sleep. Yeah.
