Ten minutes was all you had for you to get from point A, to point B. It seemed impossible to any ordinary citizen with your destination in consideration, but you were far from ordinary, and it was moments like these were you glad for your enhanced genetics.
It was a breeze getting through the busy streets of Paris, squeezing yourself through any available gaps, but you were a bit worried about going into the right direction of the school you're attending; you weren't sure to what extent your sixth sense worked in this dimension.
There was this fear in the back of your mind they were somehow effected, the instability and unhealthy amount of radiation from the collider bound to have an affect on you. You could only hope they were intact enough to get you where you needed to be.
"Excuse me." You voiced for the umpteenth time, weaving around a group of Parisians with vigor, glancing down at the phone clutched in your hand. Five minutes. The digits pushed you to pick up the pace, your feet pounding against concrete, when a familiar building comes in view.
College Francoise Dupont. This was it.
Sighing with relief, you climbed the entrance's steps, deliberately avoiding eye contact with the remaining students in the courtyard. You didn't feel like mucking up your variant's social life, just yet.
"Y/n!"
'Clearly, you didn't hear me', you thought, cursing under your breath as your turned. Barreling full speed at you was the cute bluenette from the phone, Marinette, and there were no signs of her stopping.
"Wait!" You exclaimed, arms put out in front of you to keep her from crashing into you, but atlas; the clumsy girl trips on her own two feet, falling right into your arms.
She stares up at with her cheeks puffed, a sheepish grin on display as the girl apologizes. You couldn't help the snort that breaks your facade, your shoulders lightening in the presence of one hot mess. "Marinette." You grinned, helping her stand straight.
"Hey, you're finally here!" Alya exclaims, throwing an arm around you, Marinette following suit with her arm intertwined with yours. "And with three minutes to spare. Let's go!" With no room to protest, you were dragged out of the courtyard.
"Sorry about earlier, Marinette was freaking out over Adrien." She teases with a smirk, sending the bluenette into a panic. "Shush, Alya! What if he's around?" Marinette whisper-shouts, hands shielding her face to hide the embarrassment.
She peaks through her fingers at the sound of your laughter, a pretty pout weighing her lips. "Yeah? Must have been a handful." You added without thinking, tensing at the possibility of offending the poor girl, but all she did was swat at your arm; giggling as she pushes open the door to the locker room.
Choosing to ignore, without a doubt, the tallest door you've ever seen in your life, you followed the girls in.
"Did you see what Chloe posted online yesterday?" Marinette drones, distaste evident in her voice. You stayed quiet for obvious reasons, your brain short circuiting as you looked upon the rows of lockers, wondering which one was yours.
Alya scoffs with a roll of her eyes. "To think she thinks we're soo interested to know every detail of her life just proves she's far too gone in her head."
You nodded your head, mindlessly agreeing with whatever she might have said, your hand hesitantly reaching out in front of you. Only when did you see a familiar picture stuck on the inside of the door did you allow yourself to relax, emptying the heavy contents of your bag as you fully tuned into their conversation.
Chloe, this. Chloe, that. This girl mustn't have a good reputation at this school. With what you've heard, she's a blonde, rich girl who likes picking at your every move. Clearly, this is someone to stay clear of if you wanted to stay under the radar. You cant afford doing anything to jeopardize your variants life.
"Ready?" Marinette questions, linking her arm with yours, Alya doing the same with the other.
"Do I have a choice?" Was what you would have said if you weren't so anxious about your whole ordeal, so instead, you went with the cheesiest smile you could muster-which ended up looking wonky-and nodded your head. "Ready."
⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
You weren't ready.
With how much was resonating from your life, to your variants, you hoped to be some what of a loser here, too. Nope. For some reason, everyone was too nice here, and was friends with everyone. You were tossed into conversations you didn't know how to hold back-to-back. It was a nightmare.
And don't even get started on the classes. For it only being the first year of high school, the assignments piled up quicker than you imagined. Sure, you attend a nerd school, but even Midtown wasn't this persistent! Would you even have the time to find a way home with how busy you were maintaining your variants life?
When the final bell of the day sounded, you quickly said your goodbyes to everyone and made a bee-line to the lockers to retrieve your things. You were the first one out the building, craving the familiar space of your room and rest your poor bones.
But even then, you couldn't rest. You had to start thinking of the not-so-impossible and come up with a way to get back home. That was your main priority.
Slamming the door shut, you locked the door behind you as you went straight towards the closet. Thank god your variant's parents weren't here, saving you from an awkward, emotional breakdown. Seeing your once dead parents isn't easy on the mind, especially when you learned to come to terms with it a long time ago.
'Quit it. You aren't here to have a pity party', you thought to yourself, dusting off your mask before pulling it on. "Dawn? Are you there?"
You wouldn't lie that the silence made your mind spiral with worry, afraid that the Collider had affected her in some way. Call you pathetic, but Dawn meant a lot to you. AI or not, she was a friend and took care of you in any way she could. If she wasn't here, you wouldn't know what to do with yourself.
"Y/n. You're back."
Closing your eyes, you made sure to breath through your nose to force yourself to relax. "Dawn. . . this is truly something, huh?" You chuckled, perching yourself in a bean bag.
"I couldn't agree more. You always seem to get yourself in these situations, don't you?"
You grinned, pulling your legs into your chest. Now that you were finally alone, allowed to think straight, the weight of your situation became more clearer. "What do we do, Dawn?" You asked, voice small and quiet-you were scared. Hopeless for the first time in years.
"First, I would like to complete a health check scan to ensure there was no radiational damage caused."
You nodded, giving her a non-verbal confirmation to do what she needed to do, far too up in your head to voice it. Within seconds your vitals were displayed in front of your eyes, everything looking a-okay. At least, that's what you thought.
"How peculiar."
That wasn't the response you were hoping for. What else could possibly go wrong? "What is it?" You asked, mind running rampage. Was it internal bleeding? Are you a walking corpse?
"It seems the collider has altered your atoms in such a way that caused-well, I'm not entirely sure."
You bit the inside of your cheek, your heart dropping to your stomach. There was no way to tell whatever this was is a positive-or negative-reaction, and that thought alone made you very nervous.
Your skin heated, a thin sheet of sweat blanketing your entire body, your nerves quivered; you were uncomfortably aware of everything going on, and that alone made you lightheaded.
'Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.' You rested your head on your knees, legs bouncing as you concentrated on your breathing. Everything stopped.
Peeking from your fetal position, you grinned with pride. You helped yourself through what you think was a panic attack-by yourself! "That wasn't so bad." You mumbled, stretching out your legs.
"Y/n. I need you to look down, but promise me you won't panic."
You furrowed your brows at her request. "Telling me not to panic is going to make me panic." You answered, but did what she asked of you. "I don't see anything." You shrugged.
Oh.
"Your heart rate surpassed 120, I told you not to panic!"
You practically threw yourself out of the beanbag as you ran towards the body-length mirror, but seeing no body. "How can I not panic when I don't have a reflection?!" You yelled out, feeling around your body to see if you were still there. Having no reflection could really mess with someone's head.
"At least look on the bright side. We now know the effects aren't fatal."
"You're kidding, right?" You say in disbelief. You haven't even started on looking for a way back home, and more and more things just keep piling up! Homework, socializing, repairing your suit, get back home, find a way to stop being invisible.
"Try to remain calm. Often times, things like this are influenced by your emotions."
Wouldn't you know.
"O..kay. Stay calm, Y/n, stay calm." You muttered under your breath, eyes screwed shut as you breathed in and out.
"Good. Your heart rate is returning to normal. Keep going."
After a few more rounds of breathing exercises, you dared to open your eyes and look into the mirror to see that pretty face of yours. "Oh, thank god. I never thought I'd miss my reflection." You joked, happily cupping your face.
"Invisibility. I'm sure this new party trick of yours will come in hand soon."
"Hardy, har har." You feigned annoyance, knowing Dawn was only trying to cheer you up. Waltzing to your bed, you fell into it's comfort frantically, smothering yourself in the pillows. "I never wanna do that again." You groaned, silence filing in along with the recent events of today.
"While you attended school, I took the liberty of looking through Paris' local database."
You perked up at this, turning onto your back to speak more clearer. "What'd you find?" You watched with hope as Dawn pulled up a web blog called The LadyBlog.
"It seems Paris has their own hero's as well."
A well captured picture of the duo now took up most of your vision, dressed up in animal themed suits. Cute. Beside it, was a short clip of the hero's in action, the video rising your interest as your read the caption underneath.
"Ladybug, and Chat Noir, saving the day yet again. Nothing can come in between this unstoppable duo. Huh." You hummed, impressed at the blogger's dedication.
"The blog mostly talks about Ladybug, herself, but it also briefly talks about miraculous', akuma's, and a certain villain called Hawk Moth."
You snort at the name. "Hawk Moth? What kind of name is that?" You grinned, your commentary going unnoticed by Dawn as she continues her relay of research.
"Almost everyday is Hawk Moth attempting to get ahold of the miraculous. The reason is unknown, but for personal gain."
You listened as Dawn explains how akuma attacks work: the akuma's feeding of any kind of negative emotion into something stronger with the promise of their deepest desire by Hawk Moth. At the cost of retrieving Ladybug and Chat Noir's miraculous, of course.
"Do you think it's worth it to rendezvous with them to figure out if they know a way back home?"
"It's somewhere to start, but we should begin with getting your new ability under check. That is, after you do your homework."
Groaning with annoyance, you forced yourself out of bed. "This is a nightmare." You mumbled, grumpily opening your bag, when your phone buzzed.
1 new message from Alya C. ♡
tomorrow you're coming to my place with marinette to have a sleepover!!
"Woah, what? Not even a day to myself, and I'm already being forced to go to a sleepover?" You announced to Dawn, racking your brain for any possible excuse to not go.
"Wait a second, this could be good. If this is Alya Césaire, then you get more information about Ladybug and Chat Noir. She runs the LadyBlog."
'Of course.' You sighed, opening the text to give a reply. It's not like you didn't like her, her and Marinette seem likable enough from what you've seen, but you weren't sure if you were up to spend a whole day with them without breaking character. But despite it all, you still decided to attend.
