3. "First love"
To describe the following days the simple reply would be the worst. There was literally no second in which I didn't think of Jungkook. And the worst thing of it all was how bad I was feeling towards him, having left without a goodbye.
How could I face him again? I felt ashamed and embarrassed. The blame was put all on my father. Everytime he mentioned 'family', I rolled my eyes and just imagined Jungkook's face. Simply by that I calmed down for good five minutes.
"Princess, Jimin is here!", my father peeked inside my room.
Jimin was the boyfriend of my perfect step sister, so why would I want to see him? Right from the second I saw him for the first time, ruffling his own hair while only watching my flawless step sister, I knew I'd hate him.
"Don't you want to say hi? He'll stay here until the day after tomorrow!", my father didn't seem to notice that I didn't like him.
"Why is he not with his family?", I emphasised 'family', just with the aim to piss my father off a little bit.
"Well, he's part of our family!"
I sighed and leaned back. Maybe they were a family. I wouldn't stop them from becoming one, however I wasn't part of that family.
The eyes of my father were still on me, I could literally feel them burning my skin.
"Is she in there?"
My eyes widened as I heard his familiar voice. Sighing my father nodded.
"Sorry that she's being so rude. We don't know why she is like that all of sudden.", a bit louder he added, "Maybe this university is not any good for her."
Little did he know that this was actually the best thing that had ever happened to me, all thanks to this special boy who made me walk on clouds.
Slowly my father opened the door a bit more, revealing Jimin standing next to him.
"Go in and if she bites just scream.", my father mumbled before leaving us alone.
Shyly Jimin closed the door and stood awkwardly in front of it. Not wanting to be as rude as the evil I thought to myself that I had to at least approach him.
"Hi. I won't bite you."
Jimin laughed and it seemed as if all the tension had finally dropped. Slowly he walked towards my bed and sat down on the edge of it.
The last time I had seen him was almost a half year ago and I could spot little differences. He wore his hair differently, with bangs now which he every now and then ruffled. Above his lips I spotted a little scar, maybe it had been my step sister who had bitten him.
"You've changed... a lot!", his eyes were flickering as he was looking at me.
"Thanks, I guess.", I murmured.
I had enough of him already at this point.
"No, not in a positive way. You look sick.", he stated sounding so earnest.
"Wow...thank you even more!", I picked up my book again showing him that it was now time for him to leave.
Out of sudden he grabbed my book, checking out the title before putting it away. All I could do was sit there, mouth dropped open while staring at him in disbelief.
"First you diss me and now you're doing this? Why do they call me rude?", I shook my head at him but his expression hadn't changed a bit.
"Because you are. I was trying to talk to you because I'm worried!"
"Why are you worried?", I couldn't hide the smile, feeling amused.
Confused he stood up, standing right in front of me. He squinted his eyes as if he was trying to read me. Sadly I was unreadable, for anyone. But Jungkook.
"Because I care?", he suddenly sounded exhausted, not the Jimin I was used to.
"What? Why?", I chuckled trying to hold his gaze.
"You know that exactly.", disappointed he turned away and left the room, not looking back once.
Instead of actually thinking what he meant I grabbed the book and continued on reading. However it was difficult. It seemed as if in between the words were images engraved of Jungkook, only for my eyes to see. And I was thankful for that.
It was dinner time and even though I felt awful the first bit I was thankful for Jimin. As if my step sister and step mother had planned it all out, every topic led to talking about how great my step sister's achievements were. Whether they talked about food, the weather or my brothers grades, it all led to her. Her brilliant cooking skills, her weather prognosis which was always right and my step sisters advice for my brother, that she'd help him get into a good uni since his grades allowed him to. It was at this point that I felt thankful for Jimin.
"Why don't we talk about Cinder for once? It's always about Chaerin even though Cinder just started uni! She has so many interesting things to tell, right?", Jimin looked at me with hopeful eyes.
But as expected the room went totally silent. You could even hear someone walking outside.
"S-sure, tell us something!", my step sister awkwardly broke the silence.
I looked around to see all eyes on me, but weirdly Jimin's encouraging nod released me. And so, for the first time it felt, I was talking about me. Even though I wasn't sure everyone was listening I continued. Every now and then, Jimin kept the conversation alive by asking me questions and for the first time after I had arrived, I really smiled.
As I was brushing my teeth I heard someone knocking at the door. Slowly I opened it to see Jimin standing in his pyjamas.
"I just wanted to say good night!", he smiled at me.
Quickly I washed my mouth out, indicating Jimin to come inside and close the door.
"I don't really know how or why but I guess I have to say thank you.", I weirdly thanked him for making the dinner special.
He now smiled at me brightly when he suddenly came in for a hug. Irritated I slowly hugged him back. Finally he got off the hug but still held my shoulders, as if he was scared I might run away.
"You know when you were talking earlier I got so happy. After our talk I was so worried you had actually disappeared. But she's still there, Cinder is still here.", he still was smiling when he turned around and left.
Christmas was over and in the end it all had been okay. It was okay thanks to Jimin to be very honest. Being here didn't feel like being the girl in the deep dark well anymore. I was slowly climbing towards the light.
Happily I packed my stuff together. Today I would leave and the very first thing I would do was looking for Jungkook. Guilt was still all over me and I was scared how he might react seeing me.
Deep in thoughts I was packing the last shirt when somebody knocked.
"Come in.", I allowed loudly.
Standing in the doorframe was Jimin with a little box wrapped in beautiful gift wrap.
"What is this?", I pointed at the box hoping he hadn't gotten me anything since I hadn't given him anything either.
"You're a university student, you should know what this is.", he grinned as he stretched out his hand.
Embarrassed but also incredibly touched I took the little box from his hand. Carefully and trying to not ruin the beautiful wrapping paper I opened the box. The necklace was the last thing I had expected and I couldn't gulp away the gasp.
Flashback
It was raining heavily when I was sitting in front of the library, waiting for the rain to stop so I could go to the bus stop. I had just turned 16 years old and was excited to get home as soon as possible to eat the rest of the cake.
"Hey cutie.", the guy three years older than me from school sat down next to me.
In shock I gulped and just looked away. Why would he be talking to me? He's one of the popular boys who's going to graduate this year and go to a university. He may have mistakenly thought of me as one his classmates.
"Cutie, don't ignore me!", he playfully acted to cry.
With the aim to convince him he should stop talking to me I looked at him and let him see my face. Like that he would see that I was a baby in his eyes and additionally to that one of the uncool kids.
"Why are you staring at me like that?", he asked and I was surprised he was holding my gaze.
"I'm in grade 10.", I tried to shock him but he didn't flinch. In fact his expression stayed the same.
"That's why I called you cutie.", he suddenly started laughing.
"I'm not.", I protested and leaned back.
Couldn't the rain just stop now? I was feeling all kinds of embarrassment.
"Do I sound weird when I tell you that I'm sure you're cute? I've been seeing you a lot in school and I've been wondering ever since you know... you have such a pretty face. Why are the boys in your grade not chasing after you?", he was rather talking to himself since my soul had left my body.
Jimin was the first boy ever to tell me I was pretty. Which led me to fall for him and have a major heartbreak when Chaelin introduced him as her boyfriend a week later.
Not only had he been the first one to tell me I'm pretty, he was also my first kiss and this kiss was connected to the necklace.
