Chapter 1: The City, The Start, and Him.
The City wasn't always this way, but you would never know by looking at it. The city used to be the safest one around... not anymore. When all the neighboring towns got overrun with villains, ours remained safe. And do you know why? It's because of the city's hero population, the hero's have been keeping city's safe for as long as I can remember. But not today, today is the day that all the villains from the surrounding towns come to take over the City, and the hero's will lose. I watched from the roof top of the tallest building in all of Haven, yes; this city is so safe that it's name is Haven, but that will soon change. I watched as the villains closed in and I smiled. I looked down at my little brother and messed up his hair, "Are you ready to see a fight?" I asked him. He nodded eagerly and I laughed and watched as the bloodiest battle this world has ever known began. I watched as the out numbered hero's tried there hardest to fight the millions of villains. I watched as my brother gasped when he saw his first kill. "See Xavier, the villains can win too." I said to him standing up. He nodded and watched intently and stared into the chaos below. "I must go Xavier, you can stay here and watch, but don't you dare go down there understand me." I threatened. He nodded and I left my little brother to go do as I was instructed to by my father; the king of villains. I walked off the top of the building and floated down, gently landing on the bloody pavement below. "Took you long enough boys!" I hollered at them.
"Shut up Prince!" I heard one of my minions say,
"That's not my name that's my title moron!" I yelled back.
"Behind you!" I heard someone yell. I whipped around to see the last, and strongest hero holding my brother in a choke hold.
"Xavier!" I yelled, I grit my teeth and said, "Let him go!" The hero looked at me and said,
"Don't release them Prince." He demanded,
"Why does no one know my name today." I mumbled.
"Let my brother go." I demanded.
"Or what?" The hero said.
"Boys!" I said drawing the attention of my fellow villains. "Kill him, but don't hurt Xavier!" I demanded before running off as super speed to the nearest graveyard. This city is at the center of the planet, so when I open a portal to the underworld here, I'll unleash every supernatural thing imaginable. I opened the portal in the middle of the graveyard and smiled as all the spirits started to rise up out of the ground.
"No!" I whipped around a the sound of the hero's voice.
"You, but how!?" I demanded.
"Your soldiers aren't immune to sleeping spells I see." He said. I clenched my fist and grit my teeth.
"Where is my brother?" I spat.
"Dead, I didn't want to do it, but I had no choice." I spun around to the portal and yelled,
"I summon the best of the best, the worst of the worst villains to have ever plagued this world, Alex, Jasper, Arron, Leah, and Lucifer." I watched as the five spirits appeared before me.
"No!" The hero screamed.
"Go! Find vessels!" I demanded. The hero disappeared and reappeared in an instant with a baby. I laughed, "What do you intend to do with that?" I asked through my laughter pointing at the child.
"I plan to bind the five of them to her." The hero said.
"You can't be serious! The thing wont survive!" I spat. I watched as the hero ignored me and proceeded to bind the spirits to the child. I watched in amazement as the spirits where bind and the child continued to cry. "She's alive!" I said in amazement.
"She's a hero just like her dad." He said. I balled up my fists and created a fireball in each hand.
"Aw, how sweet of you dad!" I spat thoughing the balls of fire at him. The hero and I processed to fight until only one of us was left standing. I used my super speed to catch him off guard and I held his neck in-between my hands. "Long live the hero's." I taunted in his ear before I snapped his neck. His lifeless body lay limp next to his child. I picked up the girl and debated on killing her, but then again, she can contain all five of the best villains the world has ever seen... so she must be powerful. I looked over at her dead father and then back at the child, "I only hope you're more powerful than your father was." I said to the child. After the portal was empty of villains and they all found vessels in either dead heros or civilians, the villains once again ruled the City. I gave the child who I named Shadow, to my best female solider to raise. She took on the job with pride and I watched as the child grew, and with her, the city the way it is today. The civilians are trying to take back the city by using the police force. They've determined that most of us villains have a certain insanity level. Many of my soldiers have been captured and tortured, none have talked, so all have died. I, like the villains who are still alive, can control my insanity level. My only concern at this point, is Shadow. The girl I put in charge of her has told me that Shadow is starting to show the other personalities inside of her. That's what she told Shadow the spirits inside of her where, split personalities. I decided to go for a walk to Shadow's house to see how she's doing. I knocked on the door and Shadow's assigned 'mother', opened it.
"Hello my Prince." She said bowing.
"Don't bow Cynthia, just call me by my name in front of the girl." I said sweetly. She nodded and I walked into the house to find Shadow siting on the couch, she seemed lost in her thoughts.
"Shadow," Cynthia said, "We have a visitor, it's the Prince." She said. Shadow was well aware of her surroundings. She looked up at the sound of her mother's voice and listened intently. She knew of the City and what was happening to it. But what she didn't know, was that her mother wasn't actually her mother, and her father was indeed dead; she just doesn't know how or why. She was now fifteen, had long dark purple hair and blue eyes that could pierce your heart.
"Hello Shadow." I said sweetly.
"How do you know my name?" She asked cautiously.
"My father told me." I lied. She knows that the villains have there own little kingdom within the city, and my father is indeed the king, but he's dead, and he's not coming back. I will become King once my father is laid to reset. I am a vampire, so I will forever look eighteen physically, so to protect Shadow for as long as possible from this cold world she lives in; I will be the Prince until she learns the truth.
"Oh, did you come to tell me that I'm going away?" She asked scared.
"Oh no Shadow," I said reassuringly. "I came to help you. Your mother informed my father about your... personalities." I said choosing my words carefully. She nodded and said,
"How can you help me?" She asked.
"Well first, I need to know who I am talking to at all times so I know who I am dealing with." I said. She nodded in agreement and said,
"I'm me right now, the others are surprisingly quite right now." I smiled knowing that they were quiet out of respect for me. They know who let them out, and they know who there leader is... as far as she will know, I can help her control them.
"So Shadow, why don't you tell me about all of your personalities?" I asked.
"Well, there's Alex, she's a villain, well actually, they all are." She stated. "She is seductive, doesn't take no for an answer and very manipulative. She doesn't need powers to get what she wants and she was very successful in taking over many towns and cities."
"What was her downfall?" I asked sitting down on the couch next to her and resting my chin on the palm of my hand.
"She was sloppy, and she didn't think anyone could resist her, but she was wrong. She was brought down and killed by a hero who worked as a double agent type. He pretended to be seduced by her but really wasn't, and once he got close enough to her and earned her trust; he killed her." I nodded in agreement knowing fully well that she was telling the truth.
"Next?" I asked politely
"Arron, he was a leader and even became the king of his band of villains. But his mistake was love, he fell in love with a hero and tried to turn her into a villain, instead; she turned him into a hero. The other villains weren't going to stand for this, they couldn't watch there King fall, so they killed him." She said. I nodded signaling for her to go on. "Leah is my favorite." She said making me smile at the memories I had of her. Leah was good friends with my little brother Xavier, that is before she died anyway. "Leah was the first villain to become as successful as she was at such a young age. She used her child like innocents to gain the trust of hero's by pretending to be a little girl in distress. She'd lurer them away to a spot where no civilians where and then she'd kill them using her own unique powers. I'm not so sure of her downfall though, she won't tell me."
"She got sick." I said, Shadow looked at me with a surprised look,
"My father told me." I lied. "There is suspicion that she was poisoned by one of her families servants who worked as a double agent for the hero's." She nodded.
"That would make since, since she did kill over half of the hero population in her area." I nodded,
"She didn't take over any towns, but she certainly was a big help to those of who did at the time." I said.
"Jasper," She said moving on, "He could've ruled the world if he wanted too. His brother was a hero much like his father, Jasper was the older brother and had such unique and powerful abilities. But much to his fathers disappointment Jasper was lured in by the darkness. He showed so much promise in becoming a hero, but he didn't like the rules that came with being one, he wanted to be able to do whatever he wanted when he wanted. You can't do that when you're a hero, so he left home and went to the villains who welcomed him with open arms. Jasper advanced quickly as a villain, quicker than when he was training to become a hero that's for sure. He captured entire lands in a matter of months. But this down fall was his brother. When the time came for him to face his brother in the heat of battle, he couldn't do it, he couldn't kill the brother he knew and loved, he was evil that's for sure; but not that evil. His brother ended up killing him in the heat of battle, but once he realized what he had done, he couldn't live with himself after; and soon the world found it's self down one villain... and one hero." "And finally Lucifer. She was brutal. Took over an entire land by using her powers to burn it to the ground, the citizens of the surrounding land called her territory Hell, because once you went into her land, you never came out, unless you where a villain. You where tortured so badly that your screams of agony and cries for help could be heard for miles around, and to prevent outsiders from coming in, the perimeter was outlined with flames that never went out. She was ruthless and mean as can be. Her down fall wasn't like the others... she killed herself because she couldn't handle the power, the villains wanted to make her there queen, at least; in that land they did. She didn't want that and she never did. To her the whole situation was just one giant temper tantrum that she threw."
"She never did have the strength to be a leader, or at least that what my father said." I added. She nodded and said,
"That's all of them. Now can I ask you something?" I looked at her with a shocked expression but nodded my head in agreement. "What is your name? Everywhere I go people just refer to you as the Prince." She asked with a hint of curiosity in her voice. I smiled at her and said,
"Vincent. My name is Vincent, but you'll here people refer to me as Anubis." I said.
"Why?" She asked curious.
"That's my middle name, I don't like my first name very much... it reminds me of my little brother, his middle name was Vincent." I said sadly.
"I'm sorry, what happened to him?" She asked, I bit my tongue.
"He was killed by a hero." I said clenching my fists.
"I hate heros." She mumbled. "They're the reason I can't go outside." She said sadly.
"You want to go outside without getting sent away?" I asked her. She nodded eagerly, "Okay then. Cynthia is it okay if I take Shadow outside with me?" I asked turning towards her 'mother'.
"Of course Prince Anubis." She said.
"For the last time just call me Anubis Cynthia." I said making her laugh. She nodded and I stood up, turned to Shadow and extended a hand to her. She took it and I gently pulled her up off the couch. We walked to the front door and I looked at her, "Ready to go outside?" I asked her. She nodded and I opened the door letting her go outside before me, and then closing the door behind me. The City was beautiful. Cops at every turn just waiting to catch a villain with a high insanity level. Screams can be heard form miles around by innocent civilians who are being mugged, robed and abused. Hey they dared to go outside, not my fault. You see in this city if you're not a villain, the city is a terrible place for you to live. Unless you're a cop, but even then you never know if this day is the day that you'll face the villain that will kill you or not. "Anubis!" I turned to see who dare not address me as Prince and saw it was a cop.
"How dare you not address me as Prince." I spat at him. I pulled Shadow close to me as I saw him taking out his sanity scanner.
"Sorry but I don't abide by the rules of the villains." He said sharply. He scanned me and then Shadow.
"Miss are you aware that your insanity level is right on the line of me having to take you in?" He asked Shadow. I could feel her body tens up and I put my arm around her.
"Are you threatening my girl?" I growled. She looked at me confused but was too scared to question me at the moment. "Do you wanna die?" I yelled.
"Is that a threat?" The cop asked. I smirked,
"No, that was an invitation, now run along little pest before I call my army." I threatened making him turn pale white. He nodded and went back down the ally way from once he came.
"Anubis why did you call me that?" She asked embarrassed.
"Because Shadow, I love you." I stated before walking away leaving the stunned girl a few yards behind me.
"But you don't even know me!" She yelled. I turned continuing to walk backwards and showed her my fangs,
"I'm a vampire love, ask your mother about me, I know you very well. I knew your father too!" I hollered back before turning back around my flying back home to my castle in the middle of the city.
Shadow's POV: My mind was racing and so was I. I ran home after watching Anubis fly off. What did he mean when he said he knew me very well? What he mean he knew my father, I didn't even know my father! I barged in to my house and my mother looked at me concerned. "What did he tell you?" She asked.
"Mother, who is Anubis, how does he know me, and more importantly. How does he know my father?" I asked sternly. She sighed and said,
"I knew this day would come."
I listened intently as her mother told her the story of my life and everything she knew about Prince Anubis. "My father was a hero... and Anubis...he's, he's going to be King?" I was trying to process all the information I had just been given.
"You're not my mother." I mumbled in horror as I stared up at the women who I had called mom for all fifteen years of my life.
"Shadow-"
"That's not even my name! What is my real name?" I asked scared. "I don't even know who I am." I yelled.
"Your name didn't suit you... still doesn't." I turned around to see Anubis leaning up against the door frame.
"You! Who am I?" I asked him starting to cry. He pulled me into a hug and I cried into his chest.
"You're Shadow... my Shadow." He whispered to me. I looked up at him and said,
"You killed my father."
Anubis' POV: "He killed my little brother." I stated. She nodded understandingly and asked,
"What is my real name?"
"Lily."I answered.
"That's not me at all." She said making me laugh. I looked down at her and she smiled at me,
"What?" I asked confused.
"You didn't kill me... and it's not because I have the five of them inside of me...it's something else." She stated staring into my eyes.
"You're right...I love you.' I said to her. She didn't have time to react before I leaned into her and kissed her softly. Whoever said villains can't have happy endings, clearly has never meet me. My name is Vincent Anubis, Prince and soon to be king of the villains and my happy ending is; well, I'm kissing her right now.
