"Maybe it was an accident..?"
Bella shot her sister an incredulous glance, face blanking in an 'are you serious, right now' kind of way.
Beth shook her head, "Hey, I tried!" She raised her hands in surrender. The news that Bella brought to her attention was surprising but not for the reason one might assume. She was more surprised that Angela had done it considering that her dad was such a religious person. For all they knew, the poor girl was probably confused. Seeing as how Bella had said she'd literally run away from her like her ass was on fire, it wouldn't be shocking if that were the truth.
"Listen, Angela is probably confused," she began, folding one leg over the other as she sat on her bed. The gray light of the sun was peering through her curtains, clouds rolling overhead. "I mean, you remember who her dad is, right? She's probably bisexual, and there's honestly nothing wrong with that,"
From her position lying on Beth's bed, Bella's arms covered her face and she groaned.
"It couldn't have been easy on her at all," Beth mumbled, fiddling with the hem of her tank top.
"Listen, Bells," Beth nudged her sister with a toe, "Don't take it to heart. I'm sure Angela will come to you when she's ready."
But Bella didn't say a word, thoughts still racing from the night before. She hadn't gotten any restful sleep at all, too busy worrying about her friend. Truth was, Bella couldn't care less if Angela was bisexual. It didn't matter in the slightest. All she was worried about was whether or not their friendship would remain the same. Sure, she cared about Angela- but Bella was so sure that she didn't like girls. So sure she was straight. And if anything, that kiss solidified that she was sure she was straight.
But how would Angela take that? For Christ's sake, she could have sworn that Angela had a crush on Ben Cheney and vice versa!
Groaning again, she rolled onto her stomach.
Her twin rolled her eyes above her, but brushed her hair down soothingly, "Dad said he's going fishing this Sunday and I'm going. Do you want to come with us?"
Bella hesitated,
"Just to get your mind off of things," Beth nudged her, "Hmm?"
And sure enough, Bella nodded.

Jessica took her chance in Trig the next Monday to ask her what the deal was with her and Edward. Beth wondered why she brought it up in class but Jessica had explained that she hadn't gotten a moment alone with her during the sleepover. Beth could hardly understand why she thought it would be better to be surrounded by their classmates and an irritable teacher but she would entertain her just long enough to get Jess off of her back. God knows why she must have thought there was a difference from the last time she'd asked in the clothing store in Port Angeles, but Beth could take a wild guess and say that the Forks rumor mill was working its magic again.
Shame though, she'd been looking forward to learning about the Angle of Depression. She would have bet money on the fact that she was already intimately familiar with such a thing (if you get her meaning).
"There's nothing going on," Beth told the dark blonde.
"Really?" Jess asked in disbelief, "You don't like him?"
"Jess, I just met the guy," she reasoned, "like a month ago."
"Its hard to explain, Jess," she continued. "I don't know...he's got this emo, depressed kid stuff going on and I've been there and done that. Nothing truly good and genuine comes from a relationship like that. Its toxic."
Jessica frowned, her back straightening as she processed Elizabeth's words.
"But he's hot though..." Jess tried again.
"Yeah, well hotness doesn't dictate happiness. And that is my priority in a relationship. Because otherwise, what's the point? You end up wasting your time with some miserable guy, in a miserable relationship and then become miserable yourself. Its literally pointless."
"So?"
"So, there's more to guys than just looks, Jess," Elizabeth explained slowly, as though talking to a five year-old. "You have to get to know them, flesh them out, see what they're made of. Or the next thing you know you're trapped in a toxic marriage and he's cheating on you with his secretary- or worse!"
"What could be worse than that?" Jessica was skeptical, wide eyed and bushy tailed.
Beth looked at her in concern, "he could end up killing you..?"
"..."
"Besides, I'd take a smile and a hug over a classic dick down anyday." Beth mumbled, turning back to her work. But out of the corner of her eye, Jessica's face rapidly went from pink to purple in two seconds flat, a loud laugh escaping her lips before she covered her mouth to stop the laugh from giving her away once Mr. Varner spun around to see the source of the disturbance. Elizabeth's shoulders shook as she repressed her mirth and tried desperately to refocus her attention to Math.

Over in the next classroom, mind open to thoughts unbidden, Edward's dead heart dropped just a little.
