Daily Doodle- I Only Drew One Of These In Driver's Ed (+ some side lore)
welp i guess we're going to be holding off on that lore chapter again so i can try to update an obscene number of times over the weekend (or fail to do so).
there was a midterm hence my absence but all in all though it was a bad week for writing it was a good week for the tiny chrona. sorry i haven't been around guys
Yeah this is the only thing I actually drew in Driver's Ed.
(Sail is kind of his theme, at least revisedTCHF!Twitch.)
Twitch is one of my biggest writing regrets, as I've mentioned... a few million times. Everything about him and his development was painfully unfair and I made him out of spite anyways which was a terrible idea. Never again.
I'm gonna fix him up when I rewrite The Cities Have Fallen so it doesn't just read as the protagonists being assholes or him being a nuisance with no motivation besides ruining lives.
Quick lore on Teeyus: they look canine, but Teeyus are actually the physical embodiment of leftover soul energy and as such have erratic alignments and often a detrimental aptitude (or never live long enough to develop theirs to any significant level). Teeyus very widely in appearance and can be bipedal or quadrupedal, but as a rule they tend to reflect the area they were born in. They are fiercely bound to the land, as most of their body is made of magic- even more than Canii and Canira, whose physical forms are flexible enough that traits like wings can appear or disappear between generations. Teeyu's dedication and loyalty makes them ideal companions for dragons, but they can not travel offworld lest their bodies physically unravel without the Dreamlandian biosphere to sustain their magic (this is why Canii have horns, it's like a battery). They don't live long even on Dreamland, making them akin to small 'flickers' of magic rather than long-term investments like other individuals. Their alignments are also odd and it is unclear if most Teeyu even have one, seeing as most of their being comes from soul energy. It is thought most of the more powerful and volatile Teeyu might be members of existing or longstanding heartlines, and that the difference in magic between this form and their prior ones is maddening enough for the heartline to try to break free of its current body, resulting in a slew of developmental, magical, and physical problems.
Final fact of the day: Teeyu comes from a Felis expression for "I don't know".
Anyways I decided I'd test my basis/alignment system by rolling random numbers, converting the digits to elements, and then making a Canira with whatever combination I got. I'll try to fit some lore in there so I kind of almost follow through on my promise. Anyways have some Canira practices. (Some of these are sketchy if not just unfinished. Hopefully you don't mind...?)
Ice/light. I don't have a name for this little cutie, nor a place on the timeline, but if I had to approximate I'd say either sixty-second Princess or somewhere in the late fifties, since that's when the big pushes for reform in the Teeth of the South happened.
The Teeth (often Fangs, alternatively) of the South are an archipelago of islands in the bitter cold of the southern oceans where (as described in the Dreamlandian Lore I chapter) a large, thriving black market takes place. Many individuals claim sovereignty over individual islands, and the history of the land involves a lot of blood spilled over little more than ice and rocks. Due to the inhospitable temperatures and conditions, as well as the sheer number of islands, it is hard if not impossible to patrol the land efficiently and bring an end to the crime rings there. Most Defenders would rather go into other dimensions, where they stand a chance of dying (and losing their soul and heart, since those who die in other worlds can't return to the biosphere), than going to the Teeth. There are worse things than death, permanent or otherwise.
Still, our fluffy friend at the top was among one of the few pushes to try to bring justice to the awful south.
I don't have a name for her yet either, but this is one of the doctors who will be making an appearance in The Space Between Stars. She's got the ability to take pain from patients, inflicting the pain on herself instead, and though it has no physical consequences on her body it takes a heavy toll on her mind. While it is less efficient than her peer's ability to fix the wound she can also use it to assist patients with troubled minds and illnesses that have no cure. She has the highest mental fortitude of any of my characters, far as I'm concerned.
(yes she's wearing a gauze scarf)
I really hate this design for Icarus but he's also from The Space Between Stars and furthermore is Katrina's (TCHF) father as of TSBS canon. He's an Evelscan who comes over late in book to assist with final preparations and decking out the castle with defenses. His ability to infuse his creations with his own magic let him create his own pair of wings and tail feathers, and later a new front leg after his risky flying cost him one of his own. He's proud to be Evelscan, unlike Sweep, and takes no shit from anyone, even though his risky plans go spectacularly poorly when they don't go well.
Ymbris was one of the advisers of the Thirty-Sixth Princess, though companion might be a better word for it. As a member of the original Celestial Circle, a group of light and dark oriented Canira (with a few spare Canii and dragons) who assisted the Thirty-Sixth in discovering some of the secrets of the multiverse, she was trusted for her fidelity and revered for her ability to see a wide range of potential outcomes. She was either far or near sighted when it came to future sight, never both, meaning she could either see a range of things that could happen in the next five seconds or zone out to the next hundred years.
She also had both Water Canira (hence, dragon) and Earth Canira blood in her, so those spines on her back are made of opalescent stone.
(I have no idea who this individual is so I'm going to just ramble about the breed instead. Also pirates. K thanks bye)
Seafarer Canira are some of the few travellers between continents who don't utilize portals to do so. Back when there was no one on the other continents to set up portals for Canira (some Canii can teleport, but the number who can transport others with them is too minute to be efficient), they would deliver news, supplies, and even other Sentients between continents.
Others joined forces with Water Canira or terrestrially bound Sentients on boats and took to piracy, raiding their own kind and any other travellers who passed by. Seafarer Canira were critical in maintaining connections and forging alliances between pirate crews.
Piracy was a huge deal in Dreamland for about twenty Princesses, taking off around when Ceilvyran and Evelscan society first took off and lasting through the dragon war. 'Floating cities' made of armadas of ships were formed by close-knit bands of these pirates, seeing as most Sentient species have an innate drive for order and companionship, even while committing heinous crime. However, these cities were based on fear instead of the mutual care that forms the foundation of most Sentient societies, and brutal murder was common among the ranks. Having wings to get out of a tricky spot was a huge advantage.
I have like four more but I'll put them in later in some other chapter when I have time to write. Doing some birthday things for my brother. See y'all around
