Starting off the art book right with everyone's favorite bright pink puffball and now titular character... every good story needs a good protagonist, and she's one of my best.

I was actually somewhat proud of this.

(Oh yeah, bonus colored edition... it's a bit of a mess but it's a little nicer to look at colorwise, even if the linework is awful.)

This pose is in reference to an earlier drawing of mine (see original artbook) which was actually a redraw of one of my first "serious" compositions from ninth grade. This one is Avery instead of Rena, since Avery is sort of a symbolic successor to the Princess.

I thought it was fitting to have her start off the new book because not only is she one of the first characters I drew in my first art book but she's also the POV character for the first chapter I ever wrote on here. 

It was actually by pure coincidence rather than intention, as Avery is hardly important in the original Double Rainbow. She's the Keeper of Love, which should hold merit on its own, but like Spritz she's often shuffled around by the narrative. She's an exposition fairy more than she's a character and she's changed little and gained next to nothing by the end of the book. 

However, over the years, Avery has grown into her own story and become one of my favorite characters. It's quite fitting that her newest incarnation is quite close to The Princess (in The Space Between Stars, that would be Heilin), who's often sort of a spokescharacter and main OC of mine, who was originally a flawless self-insert who developed into a more flawed and layered character over the years. While Avery has also gained more dimensions as she's aged, she's not only become more realized but also come to symbolize many of the things I strive towards as a person. She's motivated, positive, kind to others, and most importantly has a great heart.

I can't think of any better way to start off 2017 or this book, into which I welcome all fans, new and old.
