Prologue
"It all started twenty-five years ago, all of the governments of the world came together in a world summit and admitted that aliens are real." My mother Liliana, was born at the beginning of the century and was twenty-two years old when the government admitted that aliens are real and have been in communication with them for the past fifty years.
"About two years before they admitted that aliens were real, there was a plague that swept the entire world. This plague stopped all production and all businesses. Millions were affected by this plague", she continued with her story about The Great Crisis. "Many people struggled financially, mentally, and spiritually. Some found solace in new religions, others found solace on the internet, and others were finally able to sit down with the realities that they've been avoiding."
"When the governments admitted that aliens were real, most of the population didn't care. They've been struggling so much since the plague that they didn't really care about this news. People lost their jobs, their homes, family members, if you can think it they lost it."
"They even lost their mommies and daddies?" My baby sister, Eloise, reluctantly asked.
"Yeah, some people did lose their mommies and daddies", my mom answered as she pulled Eloise in close to comfort her. "But it's okay because that was their time to leave the earth, remember there are things that are allowed to happen to guide people to the truth. And there is a war going on for your heart, and both sides have access to this earth."
My dad Luis nodded solemnly, "that's right but that's enough history for tonight, it's time for everyone to get ready for bed".
I was 12 years old when this story was told. I often think back to what my mom told my siblings and I when I'm going through difficult times. My parents were my rock and I would often go to them for advice, but ever since the aliens landed on earth they've acted different. They started shutting me and my siblings out and would often stop talking when anyone would go near them.
I never really understood why they went from being the loving parents I knew to the skittish parents that I know now. But what I do know is that the answer lies within their past and the day that the aliens landed on earth.
