❝miss findlay?" mrs. noah sharply said, getting the young raven haired girls' attention. iris seemed to have dozed off, this was her first day of her new school and she already made a terrible impression by noticeably daydreaming. she really had to stay in canada with her mother and brother, she loved them but she missed new york. her father was returning back to new york for business, and her mother didn't want to let her other child go.
"i apologize, truly" iris said, making mrs. noah nod. "you came in the middle of a semester, i'd advise you to pay attention" mrs. noah said, earning a small smile from iris.
as she began teaching again, iris let out a mental sigh of relief of not being ridiculed. she starting thinking about that danny boy again, he was a bit mysterious to her, and all very attractive.
but alas, he was most likely way older than her. her thoughts were interupped by the dismissal bell, good thing this was her last period, she was truly drained.
as she started packing up her things, she looked out the window to see a crowd of people all dressed in black, their faces covered. had this been normal? the towns people didn't react.
she continued to stare until one of the black clothed members stopped and stared back at her. by their structure and built, she could easily tell it was a male.
the man started to take off his black veil, but only showed iris his eyes. she could tell what color they were, but he shot her a smile and covered himself immediately, and started to walk back with his group.
"iris?" mrs. noah said, getting the girls attention. iris noticed she was the only one left in the classroom, she was embarrassed.
"i'm sorry mrs. noah, truly" iris, said getting her bookbag and bolting out the door. she harshly bumped into a familiar blonde boy, who only laughed when iris fell over.
"danny? oh i'm so sorry" iris apologized. danny helped her up and continued to laugh. "sorry? you're the one who fell over. you seem tense, what's the matter?" danny asked her.
"i don't know, i just saw a group of individuals dressed in all black walking down the street. one of them looked at me longingly and then left. i must be normal here in québec because nobody reacting towards them" iris explained, making danny furrow his brows.
"nothing like that sounds normal." danny says, making iris sigh.
"danny!" a female voice calls behind him. danny turned his head to see hazel, beautifully dressed but visibly stressed.
"can i please talk to you, alone?" hazel says to him, staring at iris. danny nodded and then gave iris a court nod and ran to hazel.
iris breathed out and grasped her sweaty palms together. "you alright?" heath asks her, she turns around in fright.
"calm down!" heath laughs. "it's been a rough first day" she truthfully tells him. "you better get home and rest then, doors are about to close" heath tells her, and then walks out the door.
"he's definitely mysterious" iris says under her breath as she leaves the school building too and begins the walk home.
"danny you won't believe this, what i found" hazel says, she honestly looked like she was about to cry. danny was suprised hazel was speaking to him again, its been a week. she was visibly distressed, it's maybe time to forget that petty argument.
"what is it love?" he sweetly says. "i went to the morgue, where maddie's body was staying. we got to see her before her funeral today, which i'm not looking forward to after-" hazel begins. "what?" danny asks.
hazel looks around her and then pulls danny close to her, their noses touching. he started to blush, she then inched her lips close to his ear.
"i snuck into her files, for our case. the news nor anyone told us that.. she was raped hours before she died." hazel leaks, making danny gasp.
the two teens suddenly heard footsteps approaching then, they quickly bolted for the door and outside the school campus.
"hazel? did you collect the evidence?" danny asked her, and she nodded. "i stole them, they're in my bag" she says, pointing to the bag on her back.
"danny, it's been so difficult this week without you by my side. my mother has been driving me crazy, and its understandable yet again i need a break" hazel explains. danny then hugs hazel tightly, even brushing her stray hairs behind her ears and giving small pecks on her ear.
"i missed your touch" she blurts out, making danny pull away and look at her. she sighed and fell into her embrace even more, she was safe.
"can you come to the funeral danny? today?" hazel asks danny, he gave her a nod. "for you and maddie" he said to her, she smiled and brushes her nose against his. "merci" she sweetly said.
danny's parents came across the two teens and saw them. "danny" his mother yelled, making the two pull away from each other.
he saw his parents look at him sadly in the car, while his brother was fast asleep in the backseat. hazel still waved and smiled at his parents, his parents did sweetly reciprocate the kind gesture.
"it's at 6:30, please be there." hazel whispers to him, giving him a kiss on the cheek and walking home. he sighed and made his way over to his parents car, and hopped in the backseat.
"you're infatuated" annie pope says, making danny nod. "if she makes you happy" arthur says, making danny smile. "but be careful." he adds, making danny nod. "i will i promise, i have to go to maddie's funeral though" danny adds, making annie sigh. "maddie was a good friend of yours, we can't stop you from grieving" arthurs says.
"i know to be careful though" danny says.
as iris continued to the path home, she spotted the same black veil the mysterious man appeared to have. she picked it up from the ground and caressed it with her fingertips. she felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned around to see a man who was taller than her, he had blonde hair and dark brown eyes.
he smirked when he saw her, and swiftly took the veil from iris. he lightly caressed his fingers with hers afterwards. "thank you" he told her, his deep voice made her shake a little.
he tried to walk away from her, however she felt bold and grabbed his arm before he left. he stared at the young girl intensely, and then smiled.
"it seems as if the youth are tempered" he responds, making iris furrow her brows. "who are you? how old are you? and why did you decide to see me again?" iris asks him, as he raises his eyebrow.
"marino farnese, i'm twenty-seven, and i'm not God child, i don't control that" marino responds to her, she lets go of his arm and crosses hers.
"still not satisfied?" marino asks her, she shakes her head frantically. "no it's not that, i think i'm gonna be heading home now though, it's simply just a coincidence" iris told him, she quickly turned from marino and walkes away.
she heard a faint chuckle from the older man, when she stopped and looked back, he was nowhere to be seen.
this town was creeping her out, to certain extents.
