maria's café was her favorite spot for coffee, hazel would relax and wind down after a long day of school or a lesuire weekend. she needed solitude after her dear cousin had been murdered 3 days ago, it seemed unreal to her. she would had never expect maddie being a victim to such crime, maddie had always held her ground and was always defensive, her whole murder was a blur.

hazel was intrigued by true crime and stories of such. she hoped to become a novelist one day, publishing the outlandish stories that managed to curropt the small town of flores each day.

hazel took another harsh sip of her cappuccino while scribbling on her sketchbook. numerous amounts of people came up to her to give their condolences, which made reality percolate at such a uncontrollable pace, she wasn't ready.

she let out a deep breath and she placed down her pencil and rubbed her face, trying to hold back any tears. she stared at her novel collection, they always seemed to correlate with one another.

great expectations and the testament of youth, her favorites. she carefully picked up great expectations and flipped to the page she stopped on, and for matters sake she grabbed a piece of lemon cake a woman offered as a token of sympathy, hazel just viewed it as pity yet, it was still food.

no matter how hard she tried, it was too difficult to pay attention. she could stop thinking about her cousins untimely death, it simply didn't make sense. getting involved would be extremely far fetched and not to mention extremely null and void.

however, her mother had been extremely depressed lately. maddie's parent's abandoned her when she was the tender age of four. marissa calais left her husband and took her daughter from france to take care of her dear niece, only to have her ripped forcefully from her hands, maddie didn't even have a peaceful death, she was violated.

"hazel baby" one of the café employee's said, snapping hazel out of her melancholic thoughts and giving her undivided attention to the african american woman.

"yes ms. rose?" hazel said innocently to the woman she had grown fond of for the past years she had been in america.

"maddie's death has taken a toll on you, usually you come to the café and get your usual iced latte and you start to read. baby you look sick and have been zoning out!" ms. rose points out making hazel sigh loudly and bury her face in her hands.

"she was my blood cousin and i feel as if she died to out of place, that wasn't her fate" hazel explains making ms. rose cross her arms and sigh.

"baby let me tell you something, when i lost my son i believed and said everything you did, denial is the first step to grieving hazel." she states.

"i suppose you're correct but it doesn't fit well in my stomach, it's vague" hazel says, staring directly at ms. rose.

"do you want another lemon cake baby?" ms. rose said, ignoring hazel's remark. hazel responded with a sad shake of the head, she started to stand up which made everyone stare at her.

she was extremely uncomfortable, can't a girl grieve in peace? hazel startes to take out her wallet but ms. rose quickly stopped her and shook her head. "not today baby, you go on ahead home, tell mama i said hello, we love you" ms. rose told hazel, as she hugged her tightly.

hazel gave her a satis nod and she walked out the door. as she walkes oursixe, she took into account the whether. every since maddie died, it has been raining alot, washing away dead pollen and welcoming the beautiful crisp leaves on the pavement.

she continued to walk, she started getting closed to the haunted and wretched placed called flores avenue. it had been a historical landmark for the french when settling in canada. hazel stared at the sigh and breathed hoarsely, it's like maddie's wraithy breathing influenced hers.

she walked forward, her legs feeling as if was going to give out. the feeling of fingertips grazing her neck bothered her, it was almost supernatural and paranormal in that sense. she wasn't even paying attention, and she hadn't been doing that lately.

she bumped into a blonde boy who had only been a few inches taller than her. "i'm sorry" hazel said, trying to compose herself. the boy smiled weakly as he noticed who he bumped into.

"you're maddie calais' cousin?" the boy asked making hazel glare at him, really? that time? the boy noticed her tense attitude and immediately started to beg for forgiveness.

"forgive me, for my ignorance" the boy said making hazel smile softly. "it's alright and yes that is me" hazel said, motioning her hands up and down.

"this must be really difficult for you" the boy said making hazel shrug and cross her arms, hindering herself from the cold. "it is, truly, however i must compose myself" hazel said making the boy shake his head.

"keeping it in only makes it worse" the boy suggested making hazel irritated. she started to step back from him and she held her head from the migraine about to flourish. "this is none of your business, i'm sorry to be frank but i don't want to discuss this" hazel said straightforwardly making the boy give her a nod.

"understandable" he said quietly. "i'm danny pope" said danny, holding his hand out for hazel to shake.

it was fine that she was meeting new people, however the location was bittersweet. nevertheless, she took his hand and shook it. "hazel calais, but you already knew that" hazel said making him smile.

"i'll leave you alone know, until next time" he said, giving her some space. as he was walking away, hazel noted her carried a large black piano case, she hadn't seen much intricate abilities like that in quebec quite otften, she got quite bored.

hazel sighed and looked at the sign once again.
