Natasha Romanoff
A.k.a Black Widow
"I will not fear. Fear is a mind killer. I will face my fear. I will let it pass through me. Where the fear is gone, there shall be nothing. Only I will remain." Frank Herbert
The famous black widow sits on the bar stool, her eyes trained on the glass in front of her. Her poison of choice, vodka, goes down her throat in one quick motion of her hand. It burns as it goes down, but it was a welcoming pain. Soon it would create a numbness that would pause it all. Whether it lasts for a couple hours or all night, it was worth every second she had a hangover.
"Hello, pretty lady." A voice slurs from behind Natasha, she scoffs at the obviously drunk man. He doesn't catch onto the fact that Natasha wants nothing to do with him, but he ends up sliding onto the stool beside her.
"I didn't ask for company." She says not even glancing at him.
"Well I thought a pretty girl like you could use another drink and maybe a date." He pauses waving over the bartender. "Why don't you give me and the pretty lady something to drink. Whatever she had." The bartender nods bringing over the bottle, and as he pours two glasses. Quickly Natasha downs her drink, the man gapes at her.
"Never seen a girl down something so strong and not even flinch." He says tipping his drink down his throat.
"Well I am not most girls." She says sliding her coat onto her slim body. "By the way it's 'the pretty lady and I.'" She spins on her heel and heads towards the door. "Night Kyle." She says as she leaves into the cool night.
The night greets the former assassin with open arms, moving along the streets of the small town in Arizona. After ten years of free lance travelling, she ended up here. Making her way towards the hotel. It was the walks like this that get Natasha's thoughts going, the main focus, her past. Becoming a skilled assassin, and getting onto Shields radar. She lets out a low growl, just the mere thought of Shield grinds her gears. Could they have been any ruder? 'Hey we let you into Shield and now that you just saved the world again, you can leave.' At least it wasn't just her who saw the injustice that is Shield, so did the Avengers. But even that friendship was a waste. For the first year, all the Avengers talked and got together on a regular basis. Then for the second it was only Clint. By the time the third year rolled around, she was all alone again. Friendship and love was only a childs game. A way to pretend that you are not alone when that is all you are. Alone.
Pop, it came from behind. Careful not to be obvious she brings her hand to her hip, unclipping her gun. Just as she gets a grip, Natasha spins around to see who dared come at her. Her ears perk at the sound of someone muttering some thing along the lines of dammit. Slowly Natasha moves towards a dumpster, seeing as it is the only place someone could hide. Her gun pointed out in front of her, she moves to where she has a clean shot of whoever may come out from behind.
"Whoever you are... Come out now." She says lowly enough so the whole neighborhood doesn't wake up. It would be an understatement to say that she wasn't absolutely freaked out by the man popping out of nowhere. He looks to her with big brown doe eyes, a small smile on his face.
"Well doll face, why don't we play a game where you don't use that." He stops using his hand to lower her gun. "And I explain some things." Natasha just stares slightly confused by him.
"Well I would cooperate, but I haven't a clue what your name is." Smiling slightly he holds out his hand, she just looks at it, before taking two steps back. Raising his eyebrows. "Okay, well I am Declan, or the guy who can turn invisible." Natasha gives him a 'really' look, but he just shrugs. "I have yet to come up with a better name." Again he pauses. "By the way, I work for Shield. " That's when she goes off, grabbing him by the shoulders and roughly slamming him into the dumpster.
"What does Shield want?! And what does it have to do with me?!" She yells pressing her gun to his neck. Declan's eyes dart around. "You can't escape." She hisses, her eyes dangerously dark.
In her eyes it happened so fast, first she had Declan, then he was gone and she had a gun to her head.
"I can always escape, doll face." This is it, Natasha thinks to herself. Shield is finally going to carry out the mission Clint was sent on in Budapest. Kill the black widow. It wouldn't be suprising.
"Shield needs a little help with some wack job alien who wants to start a war." Natasha laughs.
"Not suprising." She continues, "What do you need me for?" Declan sighs like it is the most obvious thing in the world.
"We need you as back up. You know the imcase plan A fails." Great, just another way to be a part of Shields crazy game. Declan slowly removes the gun from her head and holisters it on her hip.
"You can come with me and save millions of people. Or you can continue your travels." That bothered Natasha, has Shield been tracking her. Shaking her hesd she stands up running after Declan.
"I knew you'd come." She looks him in the eye.
"How'd you know that?" He shrugs at her walking with a certain egotistical way, one that could only be compared to Tony Stark.
"Well no matter how much you deny it, you have a major hero complex." That causes thoughts of her before Shield days killing to get the job done. "Thanks for coming. Fury would have had my ass if I failed."
"Well, I'm not doing it for Shield." Declan lets out a laugh at that comment.
"Never said you had too." She looks at him as the pause at a crosswalk. "If that was the case, I would have quit years ago." She cracks the smallest of smiles and that is the first real smile Natasha Romanoff said in the last six years.
"You're not too bad, Declan." He bounces on his heels before they continue walking along the street.
"You're not too bad yourself, doll face." A sad smile sneaks onto her face.
"Don't get that often. Most people leave me once they get to know me." He looks at her unbelieving. How could anyone leave her behind.
"Well you should."
