The Spider
Point of View: Clint Barton
———•———
"I guess I'll go next," I volunteered, feeling as though the only way to end this madness was to get through all of us and run out the clock Tony had running through his head.
"Barton... hmm, I never expected that one," he replied, sending me an odd look of suspicion. "Either way, come on over... anyone got any guesses?"
"I do not have a guess," Loki began. "But, if I so much as see that damned Def Leppard CD pulled from that bag once more, so help me I-"
"We got it, Loki," Bruce started, a sly look on his face. "You're kinda into guys and you don't want to admit it, no biggie."
Loki's face burnt a bright red as he approached a sitting Bruce. "You little!"
"Little? Are you really so sure that I'm the little one here?" Bruce replied, standing.
"Seriously?" We all turn to see Steve walking towards us from the hallway. "I leave you all alone for five minutes-"
"Now then, Steve," Bucky interrupted him as he walked out of their room behind him. "I wouldn't call that five minutes." Steve laughed and brushed the comment off.
"So," Steve continued. "Who's up?"
"I am," I said, reaching into the bag and feeling around for something somewhat normal and... feminine? I don't know, I was just trying not to pull Tony or Loki.
Steve and Bucky sat on the loveseat again where they had been only a little while ago.
"Rogers!" Tony yelled across the room for no reason. "No sexy time on my couch again, copy?"
Steve saluted him, "I'll try, but no promises."
I felt something small, like, very tiny, and reached for it. "Wh- something's moving- Tony..." he just smiled at me. I yanked my arm out of the bag and swatted at my hand.
A spider fell to the floor.
I looked at Tony. "Was that on purpose?"
"What do you mean?"
"Did you put the spider in the bag?"
"Me? Whaaaaat?" he played dumb.
I looked over at Bruce as the chatter in the room died down. We were all waiting for him to reveal who I had chosen... or, rather, who had chosen me. Tony reached down and grabbed the spider, placing it back into the bag. I sent him a dirty look.
"Next to spider... it says-" he looked up at me, an expression of almost hurt written across his face. "It says Natasha."
I looked over at her and her eyes met mine. She was just as shaken about this as I was. Hell, we've only ever been friends and that's been for as long as I can remember- well, except for that one time in Budapest... but that's behind us now, we said we were going to forget about it.
Now, this? How is this even going to work?
"Are you guys just gonna stare at each other or are you gonna get in the closet?" Tony interjected. I looked at him with knives in my eyes. He put his hands up, "sorry, sorry, just saying."
I motioned for her to follow me and she did; she closed the door behind her and I heard it lock from the outside.
She let out a harsh breath. "It's dark in here."
"You'd think a spy as advanced as you would be capable of making more fascinating realizations," I said. "It's dark in here, no shit," I mocked her with a chuckle.
She laughed at me and, despite the dark, I felt as though I could see her smile. "So," she started as soon as she calmed down a bit.
"So," I repeated.
"What're you thinking?" she asked, her voice sounding as though it was approaching me.
"Me? Gosh... it's honestly an internal debate at this point," I revealed.
"How's that?" I felt her right hand meet my chest and the other rest on my arm.
I closed my eyes and reopened them, hoping for something to change, somehow, but the dark remained despite what I wanted. I gathered my thoughts, seriously debating if I should even say anything.
"I- I don't know," was all I could muster.
Her body gradually got closer until I felt her front side touch mine. She was moving my arm with her left hand... I met her lower back past her waist. "What, exactly, don't you know?" she whispered, her mouth sounding as though it had gotten so much closer in a matter of seconds.
I felt chills rage across my skin. "Whether or not I should abide by the pact we made way back when..." I took in a breath. "In Budapest."
"That pact had many facets... to which part, Clint, are you referring?" she asked, her voice lilting as it met my name.
"The part where I said I'd never make advances on you again, Natasha, kiss you, even," I replied, bringing my other hand to her waist, too.
"Hmmm, I see," she came back, her arms looping around my neck. "Amendments can be made, you know."
"Amendments such as-"
"Such as we can temporarily break our promises if we both deem it necessary, or wanted, even," she cut me off.
"Wanted?" I questioned rhetorically, moving my hands lower and lower until I physically could not stop myself from grabbing her and pulling her closer. "Wanted how?"
"Want, like desire- like an incessant need for something or... someone," she explained sensually, running her fingers through my hair.
I grabbed her harder, if that was even possible, feeling myself push against her through my pants. "Like this, you mean?"
"Almost."
"...Almost?"
"Yes, almost. More like..." she dragged her finger across my jaw and pulled me closer to her. I felt her lips hovering over mine.
I let my eyes close and my breathing slow as my heart raced in my chest as-
I heard Tony step towards the closet and take hold of the door handle.
"Stark, don't you dare open that damn door," I turned my head to the side and yelled to him.
I heard her chuckle and plant her lips on my now exposed neck.
I, reluctantly, removed my hand from her ass and grabbed her face, bringing my lips down onto hers. She mumbled at the unexpected turn of events.
She held me there for a second before moving my hand herself back to where it had been before. Her hand crawled up my chest and back down, stopping at my belt.
I dipped my tongue into her mouth and she did the same, both of our breathing seemingly getting out of hand. I bit down on her nether lip and she moaned into my mouth- her hand finally slipped lower and she grabbed me through my pants as I breathed out sharply and without warning.
The door swung open and I felt my eyes crinkle as I was blinded by the bright lights flooding in.
No one said anything, not even Tony.
"Anyone else see that coming?" he asked. I stand corrected.
She pulled away from me and we made eye contact- her facial expression said a thousand words. It was almost like she wanted to stay with me but knew that the whole idea of making amendments to our pact was a bad idea to begin with, so it'd be best if we avoided it altogether.
I looked out into the crowd and pushed my way past everyone and sitting back down where I had been before, but this time, with a pillow on my lap.
"Anyway, Natasha..." Tony continued. "You're next!"
