Personality: Jasmine is very stubborn and headstrong yet also very compassionate, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. When Jasmine cares about someone, she can be very fussy and nurturing, often becoming the friend mom. She has an imaginative and optimistic mindset that she puts in her writing and believes in the best in people or, at least, she tries to. Jasmine has a strong fear of turning out to be a silenced puppet, like her mother, and adopted a strong rebellious side in retaliation, though she can be talked into doing stupid things provided she doesn't find a logical reason not to do something other than fear.
Likes: animals, writing, music, nature, freedom, reading, watching TV, horror movies
Dislikes: Being controlled, football, being mistaken for a delicate flower, country music, bullying, tofu and soy beans, getting up early, bugs (has a serious fear of them)
Powers: Jasmine has the ability to control plant life and has an accelerated healing factor which can be discovered in two ways. One is in a storyline where she gets captured and experimented on. Two is in the X-Men crossover line where the separate continuities merge and Jasmine discovers that she's a mutant.
Background story: Jasmine grew up in Texas with her gaslighting father and doormat mother. Her half-sister, Tanya, made her life miserable and never resisted rubbing her boyfriend Josh (who Jasmine was infatuated with) in her face. Jasmine's half-brother, Ken, often took stuff from her. Jasmine's father often controlled the house while manipulating her and her mother into thinking they were the problem. Jasmine ended up hanging out with hippies, being the only ones not afraid of Tanya, and got expelled for vandalism in the name of protest and to prove that she wasn't a coward. Jasmine got sent to live with her grandfather with the threat that, if she screwed up there, it would be Military School. When she got to college, that threat was replaced by losing her college fund. Jasmine took a job as well as attended college, hoping one day to get out from under her grandfather's thumb. After graduating, she found a job at the Daily Bugle as an Advice Columnist. While not her dream job, she's hoping to quit once she becomes a published writer even if she has been afraid to turn in her writing.
X-Men background: Before the rip in dimensions, Jasmine discovered her powers when she was 16 and turned her room into a thorny jungle. Thankfully, she managed to chop it all down before her mutant hating grandpa saw it. She was discovered by Professor Charles Xavier and went to his school, becoming one of his X-Men. Jasmine stayed longer to teach and met Logan/Wolverine, who she started a relationship with. Eventually, their relationship turned sour and led to a breakup so bad she left the school. This and the combined news reports that villainized mutants left her to have little faith in the X-Men. Jasmine took a job at the Daily Bugle in the hopes of writing news reports that could help the mutant cause. Unfortunately, her current job doesn't allow her to do so.
Other: Jasmine speaks with a southern accent and calls everyone sug. She's very knowledgeable about the language of flowers and puts flowers in her hair. Despite Jasmine's last name, she has absolutely NO relation to Betty Ross or her general father.
Regular Outfit:
(wears the flower in her hair)
Superhero Outfit:
Jasmine's Family
Darren Ross-the patriarch of the Ross family. Darren is a copywriter at an advertising company and, while he may seem charming, don't be fooled. Behind Darren's charming facade is a manipulative man who knows exactly how to get into your head. He regularly assorts this power over Jasmine and Carrie, making them both feel worthless and that they're the problem rather than him. Despite this, he is rather lenient with his children from his previous marriage, Ken and Tanya, letting them get away with murder while scape-goating Jasmine. She has never once heard an I love you from Darren without it being followed up by a list of reasons why she sucks. Darren's influence on Jasmine is so powerful that, even though she's miles away, Darren's become the voice inside of Jasmine's head saying that she will fail
Carrie Ross-the matriarch of the Ross family. She once had dreams of being a writer but gave them up after meeting Darren, opting to become a nurse instead. Her creativity is only used to help Darren with his job and, even then, he gets angry at her if her ideas are better than his. Carrie loves Jasmine but, more often than not, sides with Darren. Even if it goes against her better judgment. While Carrie will, more often than not, put up a fight, Darren always manages to win. Carrie misses Jasmine a great deal and drowns her sorrow in a bottle of wine. She deeply regrets agreeing with Darren to send Jasmine away and Carrie's thoughts can become suicidal, her only joy being when she can talk to Jasmine in some form. Though, now that Carrie's separated from Darren, she's starting to see the joy in life but her experiences made her suspicious towards men.
Tanya Rivera-Jasmine's half-sister from Darren's previous marriage. The former queen bee of Arlington High, she ruled with an iron fist while keeping a pleasant facade. Tanya is selfish, vain and narcissistic, angry when she is not the center of attention. She used her power to make Jasmine the outcast, often mocking and humiliating her in any way she can. Tanya is now married to her high school sweetheart, Josh Rivera, and has two children, Aurora who has been in and out of rehab, and Dean who is addicted to Ritalin. Tanya often spends what little money Josh makes on makeovers and accessories rather than the necessities of life.
Ken Ross-Jasmine's half-brother from Darren's previous marriage. Ken is lazy and selfish, refusing to get a job and always looking for the next get rich quick scheme. Unfortunately, his schemes tend to deplete what little savings he has. He often freeloads off of the Ross family and manipulates Jasmine into buying his products or doing him favors. His only other source of income comes from disability claims and frivolous lawsuits. Ken has been divorced twice due to his childish ways and neglect towards his own wife and children. He is on his third wife but, since he has not changed his ways, it's only a matter of time before that marriage also ends in divorce.
Hank Foreman-Jasmine's grandpa from Carrie's side of the family. He and Carrie had a falling out after she married Darren against Hank's wishes. Hank took Jasmine under his wing, determine to rid her of what he calls her "hippie" values and considers cleaning out her brain to be his number one chore. Hank often searches Jasmine's room for what he deems inappropriate such as rock music, fantasy stories and, well the list of what Hank would approve of Jasmine being interested in is much shorter, confiscating anything he disapproves of without letting Jasmine having a say. Hank is scary conservative and if anyone, even his own family, goes against what he considers "proper American values," he will punish them drastically if they're under his authority. Hank's determined for Jasmine not to end up like Carrie and his insults toward her fuel a ton of their disagreements and often threatens Jasmine with Military School if she gets expelled from her new school like she did from Arlington High, making it clear that Jasmine has no say in the matter. Thankfully, when she left for Xavier's school, she was finally free of him but he is ignorant of her mutant abilities.
