May It Be (ThorxReader)
Tears stung the eyes of all of Asgard as a boat, laden with cushions of intricate design, and gold-dusted rose petals carried your body down the river to the edge of the Bifrost.
No ones tears hurt more than those of Thor. His crystalline eyes were clouded with pain and guilt. This wasn't what you deserved.
His heart swelled with grief as he did all he could to control the oceans of tears that lay, pooling behind his eyes. A storm brewed within him, blaming himself for this, but knowing it wasn't his fault entirely.
He watched you drift towards him. The silver armor that accompanied your deep, flame-red dress and veil glimmered under the Asgardian stars that, along with the people, mourned you.
"I'm so sorry darling." Was all the God of Thunder could force out without breaking down as the hand-carven boat traveled past him, showing him your peaceful looking face.
A tear fell from his eye and trailed down his cheek, to his jaw. Just as you used to kiss him. It stung at his hand when it fell from his face, making him look down to it and wipe it away, just like you used to wipe blood from a wound.
The dull-rainbow sky of Asgard's night was bordered by pain-filled, pewter clouds that carried the tears the Asgardian Prince had yet to shed. As thunder rolled in his heart, it rolled in the sky, letting all the citizens know of his grief and guilt.
"You know it wasn't your fault Thor." Frigga soothed, trying to calm her son as your body passed the rest of Asgard.
"But I promised her. She was never going to die while I could protect her, and now she's dead because of my lack of common sense and ability." Thor whispered angrily in reply, turning his face to look his mother in her saddened eyes with his own, filled with lightening.
"Thor, your father, nor, Sif, nor even I, would never have been able save her from an attack like that. Not even she saw the blade come for her heart before it was too late." Frigga knew her words weren't what Thor wanted to hear, but they were the truth, as terrible as it may have been.
"But that's not the worst of it mother; I didn't even see her die. She fought across the battle field from me. We had all mostly left to heal from our victory when I went looking for her in the crowd of the survivors. When I didn't see her, I ran back to the battle field and found her dead body with the knife still lodged in her chest. No one had noticed her. No one had seen her die. What kind of death is that for Asgards strongest warrior?" Thor begged the question. He didn't try to stop his tears now. It was too much for him to handle that you were gone forever.
Frigga pulled her grieving son into her embrace and let the thunderer cry on her shoulder.
When your body reached the edge of the Bifrost, Frigga pulled away and pointed at you, telling Thor that this was his last chance to say goodbye.
The lake carried you and countless, glowing lanterns, each like a star in the cloudy sky, to the edge of the waterfall, its small ripples lapping at the edges of the boat, like carriers, bringing your body to the doors of Valhalla.
Once you reached the edge, Thor ran up to the bank where he could watch your spirit be lifted into the night sky.
The rose-lined boat dropped from beneath you and fell to whatever lay waiting beneath the waterfall.
Your body shined gold like the rays of a new sunset as Valhalla opened its doors to let you in. The last to be seen of you was your face before your entirety was a gold-glowing figure.
"Farewell my love. Wait for me in Valhalla, for soon, we shall be together again. I promise." Thor whispered as you drifted upwards into the sky before seemingly becoming one with the stars.
