Gentle Giant (LokixMe)
Again, I'm sorry for writing another one about me. I just don't have requests. Sorry y'all! - Red

Kate sat quietly in the small nook she had made in the corner of her room. Two tall, black bookshelves towered over her as she sat on the lavender carpeted floor behind her old, faded blue rocking chair that squeaked every time it moved. She was surrounded by walls of pillows and her defense was the light from the rainbow light strands that you often see around Christmas sitting on the floor around her. Above her head, hanging from the ceiling, was a sturdy, three-dimensional, paper, star that was light and dark blue with little stars cut out and painted in yellow all over. It was also hollow. Inside was a lightbulb that shone bright as any star. It, and the strand of lights, illuminated her only real safe place in a rainbow of comfort.
Right now she was absorbed in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. She marveled at the words that were inked into the page as she read it for the fourth time. The book had such a gravitating pull to her mind that she didn't notice a figure standing in the doorway.
"Kate?" A deep voice called with curiosity at not being able to find the short, ginger girl.
"Kate?" He called once more. This time she heard.
"Over here Loki!" Kate answered as she marked her place in her book by holding it with her finger, also pushing up her brown glasses with golden sparkles.
"How long have you been there? I've been looking for you for ages!" Loki exclaimed in a rather flabbergasted tone.
"A few hours. At least long enough for me to get to Chapter Fifteen." Kate replied as she held up her book slightly to explain.
Loki sighed and gave her a look that said he understood. He too shared her love of books and often found that the hours of the day were swept away like pebbles in a stream when he would pick up a good book.
"What did you need me for?" Kate's sweet voice asked, curiosity laced into it.
"I just wanted to spend some time with you. All I've done since I got back home was look for you. Is it wrong for a boyfriend to want to spend time with his abnormally short girlfriend?" With that last sentence Kate gave Loki a look that said 'bring up my height again, I dare you.' He knew that look like none other. Loki often teased Kate about that fact that the top of her head only came up to the bottom of his chest. In all honesty, Loki thought that Kate's height was the most adorable thing in the world. He loved that in order to get a proper hug or kiss she would have to jump up, wrap her legs around his waist, and clasp her hands behind his neck. It just made his heart melt.
"Alrighty then," Kate started after properly marking her place in her book and setting it back in its proper place, in order with the other books, on the shelf, "What does my abnormally handsome boyfriend want to do?"
He smiled at being called 'abnormally handsome' then stood there in mock thought so as to make it seem like he was unsure of what to do.
"We could watch a movie." He suggested.
"That sounds good," Kate replied. "Which movie?"
"How about The Lion King?" Loki threw out.
"Loki, we've watched that a million times!Heck, we watched it yesterday while I made you brownies!" Kate laughed at this which, in turn, make Loki laugh.
"Alright, how about..." Again, Loki sat for a few seconds in mock though.
"I KNOW!" Kate exclaimed, derailing Loki's nonexistent train of thought.
"What movie?" Loki asked.
"THE PRINCESS BRIDE! It just dawned on me that you probably haven't seen it and that in itself is a tragedy sadder than Hamlet!" Kate yelled in excitement as her blue-grey eyes lit up like small oceans as the sun rises.
The way she looked while she jumped up and down in her little corner behind the blue rocking chair that always squeaked, clapping her hands together like a small child with her eyes closed, made Loki's lips grow into a toothy smile as he chuckled a little at her child-like behavior.
She quickly dragged him into the living room of their apartment and put The Princess Bride into the DVD player.
"I don't see the significance of watching this movie." Loki stated, putting an emphasis on 'this', but on the inside he was actually curious about this movie since it seemed to be one of Kate's favorites.
"It's only one of THE BEST movies ever to be created by mankind!" Kate exclaimed, excitement flooding into Loki's ears with every word.
"Alright, of you say so." Loki conceded, sitting down in Kate's favorite red and gold striped, cushy armchair while she was making popcorn and getting the M&Ms to mix into it.
"You're in my chair." Kate stated a little disappointedly when she came back with a bowl of freshly made popcorn and M&Ms, turning off the lights as she entered the living room once more.
"Yeah. I am aren't I." Loki answered. Kate didn't need to see the smirk on his face to know it was there. She could hear it.
"Can I sit there?" Kate asked as she took a baby step closer to the chair. It was hard for Loki to say no to a shorts and oversized, black flannel clad Kate, so, he didn't.
"Sure." Loki stated, but stayed right where he was.
"Aren't you gonna get up?" Kate asked when she reached the side of the armchair. Her strong Oklahoma accent making Loki's heart skip a beat.
"Nope." Loki replied simply.
"Then how am I supposed to sit there?" By now Kate knew what Loki was getting at, but she played along just to see how long this would last.
"Like this." Loki said as he grabbed Kate by the waist and pulled her down into his lap. She squeaked a little when he pulled her down out of sheer surprise. She was NOT expecting that.
Loki grinned at his accomplishment and gave Kate a quick kiss on the nose as she gave him a small, slightly annoyed yet slightly amused glare.
Kate then started the movie and she sat back with her popcorn and M&Ms in Loki's surprisingly comfortable lap. The back of her head rested on his chest while she was sitting across his lap with her legs dangling off of the right arm rest. His arms snaked around her waist and pulled her closer as the movie continued on.
Occasionally Kate would hear Loki say something like,
"But they loved each other..."
or
"I like him..."
She would also hear him lightly laugh at certain parts of the movie, especially when Vicinni died. He cracked up.

When it came to Westley's 'death' Kate felt herself get a little chilly and the grip around her waist loosen a bit. The apartment was set at 64 degrees which was perfect for her so that wasn't it. She hadn't left the door of the fridge open, all the doors and windows to the outside world were closed. Then it hit her. Loki was a Frost Giant. She had seen that side of him before and she thought it was pretty damn cool. Sadly, she never got the chance to tell Loki because he wasn't in a happy mood when he showed her what he really was. She didn't think it would've helped at the time.
When Kate looked down to see the arms wrapped ever so gently around her waist they were, indeed, the deep, beautiful, Jotun blue. She looked up to see Loki's face and sure enough, it was the same shade of sapphire-like blue with his ruby red eyes.
She wondered if he knew he was in his Jotun form. When he changed, his grip around her waist lightened, but he seemed as if he didn't notice it. Instead of asking she turned her eyes back to the movie and nuzzled into his cool chest a little more.
Loki was thrilled to say the least. He had changed unexpectedly when Westley died because, let's face it, that just wasn't fair.
He had decided to see if Kate would accept this version of him. He had loosened his grip on her out of fear of hurting her. He knew she wasn't as fragile as she may seem or look, but he still treated her like a glass doll on the edge of a dining table in a room with wooden floors. It comforted him in a way.
She seemed curious at first, then looked to his face but when she nuzzled into him again he knew she was alright with him like this. So like this he stayed.
Throughout the end of the movie Kate was curled up into Loki's cool embrace and Loki was going over the infinite reasons as to why Kate was the best person on the planet for him, while still paying attention to the movie.
When it ended Loki changed back into his Asgardian form before Kate turned the lights back on. Kate got up and asked, "Do you see why THIS is one of the best movies EVER now?" as if nothing had happened.
"Yeah, yeah. I get it." Loki returned.
"I think we should call it a night then." Kate stated after she yawned a rather large yawn.
"Yeah. Agreed." Loki answered, finding himself persuaded, by the contagious properties of the yawn, to indeed yawn.
Loki then swept Kate up into his arms bridal style causing Kate to emit a happily surprised squeak-like yelp. When he had carried her to the bedroom he sat her on the bed and got under the sheets beside her. The two of them had changed into pajamas before watching the movie since they didn't plan on going anywhere before, after, or in-between the movie.
Before Kate fell fully asleep she quietly mumbled something Loki almost didn't catch.
"Goodnight my Gentle Giant."
