Tony was not a chef. But Steve was a pretty good one. So together, they should have made a mediocre chef that could at least make a cake.

But instead, when put together, they made two idiots standing in aprons surrounded by flour.

"I'm just going to go..."

"Don't you dare!"

Tony froze in the doorway, watching as both Pepper and Bucky glared at him from the elevator.

"I don't know what you were doing, but don't you dare get flour on our carpet."
Pepper threatened, glaring at his sock, that was about to leave a huge mess.

Tony laughed softly, and withdrew his foot. He cast a charming smile at both of them, and retreated into the kitchen.

"We have a problem."

Steve rolled his eyes, the water he was pouring stopped and he looked up at Tony.

"What now?"

"They're home."

Steve dropped the water into the bowl, which was almost looking okay until that point. Then he leapt out of the kitchen to stall the two as Tony cleaned.

He grabbed a wet rag and started wiping down everything in sight. Then put everything in the sink and ran the water. He picked up the ruined instructions and a few egg shells until he thought the kitchen was looking more normal.

Steve was rambling, Tony briefly heard him say something about the importance of voting rights, but he decided it was in his best interest to keep cleaning.

The walls were stubborn, keeping a decently thick layer of flour in the cracks between the tile. And the counter surrounding the sink was a wreck of ingredients and utensils.

He washed and loaded as many bowls into the dishwasher as he could before he ran out of time. No matter what he did though, he barely made a dent in the pile.

And then it was all over. The door opened, and in walked an irritated Pepper.

She cast a look around the kitchen, and then her eyes landed on Tony. Who was covered in random dirt and grime from the days events. He smiled sheepishly and gestured vaguely around the room.

"I swear we tried to make you two a cake. But as you can tell, it didn't go as planned."
He weakly explained, his gaze trained on Pepper.

"Friday, do you have it on video?"

"Yes miss."

"Send it to my private email and save it to my file please."

"On it."

Tony cracked a smile and stared innocently at Pepper.

She rolled her eyes at his puppy dog look,
"I'd hug you if you weren't covered in flour."

"I don't see how that's a problem, c'mere!"

He wrapped her up in a bear hug, and she squealed in surprise.

"Tony! I'm in a nice dress! Look what you did!"
She acted mad, but based on the small glint in her eyes, she was really amused.

"It was all for you! Might as well give you something from it!"

"Ugh!"
He laughed and kissed her forehead lightly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. She smiled slightly and led them off to get him changed.

Just as he passed Steve, who was talking to Bucky in a hushed voice, he whispered,
"You won't get off as lucky as me."

Steve glared, and when he turned to face Bucky again, all he got was rolled eyes and a small 'punk'. Steve laughed and hugged him, then they were out of sight. And Tony was being escorted to his room to rid himself of the flour.

So maybe there was no cake, and maybe the carpet did have permanent flour marks. But he had fun, and for a super hero with all kinds of emotional problems, that was a pretty great thing to have.
