The Best People You Will Never Know
A/N: this is based around Peter's friends for the most part.
Also, technically endgame spoilers? I'm going by cannon for his interaction with Harley, sorta, how they met at least, where they meant, so if you haven't seen it... skip the Harley interaction.
...............
While Peter wasn't some social genius, he had great fucking luck with friends.
He found six people who he considered the greatest friends a kid could have.
One being a witch.
Another being a scientist from a supposed third world country.
One being the son of a billionaire who's company rivaled Stark industries.
One being a master mechanic and engineer that had even Tony Stark impressed.
Another being a master hacker who could break into anything if he so desired.
And the last being a bad ass bitch.
Why he had been blessed with such amazing people in his life?
Who knows?
He was blessed either way.
He couldn't quite tell when he became friends with each of them, because it was a gradual thing. He could tell when he realized that he became friends with them.
With Harry, the son of billionaire Norman Osborn, they started off rocky. Peter didn't like egos and he certainly didn't like rich egomaniacs.
When he met Harry, he made it clear. Most would feel honored to be friends with a billionaires kid, but all that had coursed through three year old Peter's head was "asshole."
That dropped after a year though, when the boys were forced to spend time together while Richard and Mary Parker worked in the lab.
Though, the whole 'friend' thing didn't really describe them until they were six. Peter's parents had died in a lab accident and well, Harry, mellowed out by years of Peter, was there. He helped Harry through all that. Well, as best as an six year old could.
But when Harry was hugging Peter, telling him that everything was going to be okay, Peter knew they were friends, even if they never verbally acknowledged it.
When they were forced apart around ten years old, they were devastated.
But their friendship never faded.
The first time they saw each other after years apart, they had bounded towards each other and hugged. Well, more like embraced, but they had stayed glued together for what felt like hours.
Seven years had been far to long for them to be apart.
When Peter started high school, he was pretty alone, with no friends to his name. How could he have friends when he was constantly afraid of literally everyone and everything.
He looked like a dork too. Big ass glasses with thick lenses, a scrawny build and acne plagued face.
Still, all that had led him to Ned.
First day there, sitting in class and Ned had appeared.
"Do you like Star Wars?" That was Ned's first question and that was when they started talking.
Peter wished he could say they were friends right away, but they weren't. They weren't willing to fight for each other quite yet.
That had come a couple months later. Flash had finally gotten into the story to relentlessly tease and Harry's Peter.
"So, this your boyfriend?" Flash jeered. "I see even for a f-"
Ned had done something unexpected, kicked Flash where the sun don't shine.
After he did that, he tugged on Peter's sleeve and gestured at him for them to book it, which they did.
From that moment on, Peter knew they were friends. Almost every weekend was spent at each other's house and it was the greatest thing in the world. Uncle Ben would always order Pizza for them and they would all sit down to marathon Star Wars.
They were all so close that when Ben died... Ned grieved with him.
Peter had stayed home for well over a week after Ben died. When he came to school, he was all smiles and laughter, but Ned knew better. He knew better because he showed up every night and stayed as long as he was allowed to, hugging his friend and helping him take his mind off the grief.
When Spider-Man started swinging around... Ned saw Peter's mood pick up. He also saw the boy started getting bruised a lot more.
He may have picked up Peter was Spider-Man, but he knew he should let Peter tell him when he wanted to.
The avengers civil war swung around, Peter got an internship at stark and then Ned was told about Peter being Spider-Man.
In all honesty, he was fine with that. Now that he knew, he'd make sure that his friend was safe.
Peter knew better than anyone that Ned would always be by his side.
Mj was a different story. After things with homecoming sort of blew up in his face, Peter noticed how often Mj stuck by his side.
She pretended not to care, but he could always see her smile when he told a god awful joke.
Peter just though Mj was being nice until Ned, Mj and him were sitting in front of Ned's TV, Star Wars on full display, that Mj finally showed how much she cared.
"You know Flash is a huge asshole with an ego problem. If only he knew you were Spider-Man. He would flip."
Ned and Peter had both froze, looking at Mj who smirked at them.
"You two aren't slick."
And that was that.
Peter never heard when she finally put the pieces together, but he knew he had a friend in Mj.
Wanda and him had been weird case.
It had started with him listening to her rants, talking to her in her native tongue, all fine and good.
Peter realized they were friends the day she broke down crying in front of him, hugging better as she cried about her brother, her home, everything, thanking Peter for the small gifts he had given.
After that, Wanda had always been there for Peter.
No one could take that away.
Shuri and him....
They were just interested in each other's scientific thoughts.
How that ended up with them flying out to visit each other every month was lost on Peter.
But after the seventh time doing that, he was proud to call her a friend.
Then there was Harley
He met Harley at Tony's funeral.
They were the same age... sorta. Harley was 21 when Peter was 16, but they were close enough.
At the funeral, Harley kept his distance, but afterwards?
He joined Peter who sat by the Water's edge, looking at the horizon with a sadness that Harley knew well.
He sat down with Peter and told him everything.
He told him how he met Stark and how they kept in touch in the years following.
Then...
"He brought everyone back because he missed you."
"What?"
Harley smiles at the younger boy fondly, "he saw you like a son Peter. He would've been happy with his family, but he missed you. He risked it all, because he wanted you back."
At that, Peter had broken down crying.
At that, Harley decided he'd help mentor the kid, because he needed that. He needed someone.
Where mentor became friend?
Neither had a clue.
They just drifted to that.
But it felt right.
"Hey, Petey, you okay?" Harry asked, snapping Peter from his thoughts.
"Yeah!" He assured, "I'm fine! Just... thinking to how I got so lucky to be friends with all of you."
The six all looked at Peter fondly, smiling at him.
"We're lucky to have you."
"You're just saying that."
Harry rolled his eyes at that, "Yes, because that gay hug we had when we ran into each other is me just saying that."
"It wasn't gay."
Ned snorted, "I was there, I was pretty gay."
"Don't make me Yeet myself off of the building," Peter joked.
Wanda puffed out her cheeks, "I'd catch you."
"He can catch himself," Shuri added.
Peter just laughed. After everything, the tears, everything that tore him down over the years, he had the right people in his life.
It only took him eighteen years to truly be there, but he had them.
He also had two annoying ass boyfriends.
Harley wrapped an arm around Peter, "I've been curious, how do you stick to things while wearing a suit?"
"I don't know."
"Tragic."
Mj's joking tone had the entire group laughing their asses off.
Peter couldn't help but think to himself, 'mom, dad? Uncle Ben? Tony? Thank you.'
They all raised him right. He found a family of friends, and it was thanks to everyone who raised him.
Even those not with them anymore.
So these were his friends, the greatest people you'll never meet.
