FOUR

It was the next day, and the children had all gathered up in the training room with their parents. Willow stood with her mom and dad, crossing her arms over her chest as she checked out the facility. Her mother told her that they would be practicing their powers today, and she had scrunched up her nose at the thought. Although she had been adopted by her parents, she did have powers.

When she was younger, she had many health problems. One including anemia, and she needed a blood transfusion. Her father happened to have the same blood type. With the blood transfusion, she had gained gamma radiation in her cells, making her stronger and healthier. But, it came with a catch. Every time she got angry, her skin tinted to green and she had enough strength to level a whole building with one punch.

So, she had always been shy and timid, always afraid of getting into trouble or fights for fear her other side might come out. She had trained with her mom in combat, gaining her mother's cat-like agility and reflexes. So, she wasn't quite as nervous about fighting, as long as she kept her cool.

"Alright, kiddos. Today we're gonna train. You're all at least 15 now, so now we're gonna start preparing for any attack that you may or may not face in the future." Tony explained as he looked around at the group of kids. "You guys are gonna spar with each other, just to get a sense of your abilities and skills. There will be a timer set for one minute for you to not be able to use your powers, and then after that you're home free. This'll give you a sense of how to use your combat skills when weapons are out of reach or your powers aren't useful."

The kids nodded, looking around at each other and at the room as Tony continued to explain.

"Alright, now, for partners.. hm." He thought for a moment, looking at the kids individually before deciding. "Alright, Little Mermaid with Mini Hulkling." He said, pointing to Natalie and Willow to be sparring partners. Natalie sent over an encouraging smile and Willow returned it with a half-awkward/half-nervous smile.

"Then Kill-Bill and Legolas Jr." He said, pointing to William and Charles. Willow looked up and saw that their names were put up on a board as Tony talked, so she and Natalie would fight first. Greaaaatttt.

"Elle Woods and Rolling Stone Wannabe." He said, pointing to Inger and Sebastian, making Inger scrunch up her nose and Willow heard her mumble, "what is an elder wood?"

"Houdini and Bite-Sized." He pointed at Eerikki and Ariana. Then, Tony turned to James and Astrid. "And finally, Barbie and Ken." He said before grinning. "Alright, me and the others will be behind the glass back there." He pointed to a high up glass panel that the parents could look out of but the kids couldn't look in. "As soon as I get up there, Willow and Natalie can start. Got it?" He said, beginning to walk out.

"Got it." The teenagers all repeated, all looking a bit nervous, even Sebastian although he'd never admit it. "You guys ready to do this?" Natalie asked once Tony had left.

The other children all looked around at each other before back at Natalie. "Hell no." They all said in unison before Tony's voice came over the intercom. "Alright, Natalie and Willow get in position."

Willow sighed and walked up to the mat as Natalie followed suit. "Let's hope this doesn't go bad." She thought to herself.

-

Sebastian sat and watched, leaning his elbows on his knees and leaning forward to watch the match. Natalie and Willow got into stance as they stood in front of each other, and Sebastian couldn't help but let his eyes linger over to Natalie. He couldn't help it. She was so beautiful.

His eyes trailed down her long dirty blonde hair to her beautiful blue eyes to her freckle dusted cheeks and finally to her plump lips. He took a deep breath as he watched the fight begin, the clock counting down to when they could use their powers. He watched Natalie lunge for an attack on Willow, but Willow's reflexes being too quick and she dodged it.

Natalie balanced back on her feet and watched her surroundings, like she was studying how Willow moved before she made her next attack. He watched in interest, also studying Willow's movements. "Go for her legs, Tal. That's where she has trouble finding balance." He mumbled under his breath as he studied the fight.

It was like she had heard his words, because after he had said that she reached down and dropped kicked Willow's legs out from under her. Willow landed on her back with a hard "thump" and groaned quietly before beginning to crawl back up again.

The timer went off and Sebastian continued to watch in interest as Natalie looked around, almost as she was searching for something and her eyes stopped at the water fountain across the room. Willow has gotten back up and got prepared for another attack.

Natalie moved her hands around, like trying to make a shape, and Sebastian furrowed his brows in confusion until a gust or water from the water fountain came out and swirled around Natalie like a shield. Willow's eyes widened, as did the rest of the children's, with the exception of Charles and Ariana, who had both seen her powers in action before.

Willow ducked under the shield before Natalie could hit her with the water, and rolled under her and behind her. Natalie turned to try and knock her out again, but before she could, Willow lunged at her and kicked her in the side before flipping back onto her feet.

Natalie groaned and fell backwards, the water falling down with her and covering the floor. "I'm out." She groaned and held her side, making sure none of her ribs were cracked or broken. Willow walked over to her cautiously and held out her hand to help her up.

Natalie gave her a kind smile as she took her hand and got up. "Good job. Not even my brother can knock me down." Talie chuckled and Willow smiled. "Well, I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing." She joked and smiled at her.

"Let me guess, a touch of super strength was added into that lovely kick of yours?" Natalie chuckled and smiled, rubbing her side. Willow blushed out of embarrassment and rubbed the back of her neck. "Yeah, sorry about that." She mumbled. "Nah, it's fine. Pretty cool, if you ask me." Natalie grinned. Willow looked up at her in shock. "You think so?"

-

Ariana looked over at Charles and patted his shoulder. "You're up, Charlie." She said softly and he chuckled and smiled at her. "Don't remind me." He joked, standing up and stretching.

"You'll do great, I believe in you." She said with a warm smile up at him. He looked back at her and glanced down at her lips before back at her. "Shouldn't I get a good luck kiss or something?" He teased, using as much confidence as he could muster. She blushed and rolled her eyes playfully. "Come back to me in one piece, then we'll see." She teased, making him be the one to blush this time.

He grinned and she smiled, giving him a thumbs up as he walked up to the mat before looking over at Natalie who had plopped down beside her. "So, you gonna tell him?" Talie asked and Ari furrowed her brows. "Tell him what?"

"That you're completely and utterly in love with him, of course." Talie grinned and Ariana blushed heavily and smacked her arm before looking back at the fight. "Am not! Charles and I are just friends." She mumbled, not looking at Natalie because she knew she would catch onto the lie.

"Yeah, well Mom told me that's what your mom used to say about her and Scott. Look at your parents now." Natalie grinned at her knowingly. Ariana looked over at her and sighed. "You don't even know if he likes me back." She pointed out and Natalie scoffed. "Of course I know, I'm his sister. And besides, you've got that boy wrapped around your finger, whether you and him know it or not."

Ariana blushed again and looked back at the match as Charles and William began their fight, mostly lunging and dodging each other's attacks, both clearly waiting for the minute to be up so they could use their weapons. Finally, she looked back at Natalie. "If I tell Charles that I like him, you have to tell 'Bastian over there that you like him." She said, gesturing over to Sebastian, who's eyes were glued to the match.

Natalie blushed lightly and crossed her arms over her chest. "I don't like him like that, and he doesn't like me like that." She said and Ari rolled her eyes. "We both know that's BS." She said as she looked at her. "I saw you guys talking yesterday, you're clearly into that walking hunk of bad boy. Besides, you should've seen the way he was watching you while you and Willow fought. He obviously likes you." She said, hearing the timer go off and the boys both having relieved sighs as they quickly got their weapons that they had set at the side of the arena before heading back to their spots.

Charles threw his quiver over his shoulder and grabbed his bow, as William grabbed his watch that he had set down and set it on one wrist and another bracelet-like item that he put on his other wrist.

Charles pulled out one of his special design arrows that he had made himself. He set it up and waited for the perfect moment, trying to decide his weak spots before taking his shot. William had a different approach. He shot blasts out of his one wrist bracelet that his mom had made but he designed. Charles narrowly dodged the shots, one barely grazing his arm but still enough to make him wince. He decided to take his shot, shooting one of the arrows past William and the other towards his head.

William used his watch to turn on the holographic shield he made, making the arrow bounce back and land in the ground before looking back at the other arrow he had shot passed him. "You missed." He taunted.

Charles smirked. "Wasn't aiming for ya." He said as William began turning back to look at him but before he could, Charles shifted his bow into a staff (an adjustment he had made on the way to the Stark Tower) and struck William in the back with it, making him fall over and groan. He went to strike again before William used his shield and blocked him back and kicked him away before he scrambled to his feet again.

He quickly scammed through the settings of his watch before clicking on the 'net' and waiting as Charles went to lunge at him again before pressing the button and 4 large spheres shot out of his watch and ran in circles around Charles' legs as he ran before a blue holographic net deployed around Charles and stopped him in his tracks and made him fall over.

William grinned as he looked down at him and looked back at his watch. "Can't believe that worked." He mumbled to himself before looking over at the others, before stopping and seeing his brother looking... impressed? He never impressed his older brother, but now that it seemed he did, he felt a surge of pride flow through him.

"Hey, William, think you could help me out of this?" Charles asked as he looked over at him, struggling to get out of the net. "Oh! Right, right, sorry!" He said before going to help him out the net.

-

Astrid watched as her little sister walked up to the mat, chin held high and posture perfect. She rolled her eyes at her and leaned back against the wall as she watched Sebastian soon follow her. Inger set down a long, silver silk where Charles' bow had previously been and smoothed down her perfectly wavy blonde hair.

Sebastian set down a couple of what looked like to be the same as his brother's blasters and metal-plated gloves. He climbed up to the arena and cracked his neck, making Inger scrunch up her nose in disgust as she climbed up herself.

"What's the silk for?" James whispered to Astrid as he looked down at her. Astrid looked away from the fight and up at him and into his ocean blue eyes, her mind going blank for a second before regaining herself and looking back at the two. "It's an unbreakable silk that when one person holds it and Inger holds it as well, she can whisper to the silk in a secret language and whoever holds the other end becomes entranced and persuaded or manipulated by her." She explained softly as the fight began.

James nodded as he processed it all. "So, it's like magic?" He asked, raising a brow. "Not quite magic, I would say, I would say something more like, deception or hypnosis." She said, tucking a piece of blonde hair back from her face.

Astrid watched as Inger practically did kart wheels around the eldest Barnes boy. She had always been much more flexible than Astrid, and she had managed to perfect her acrobatic skills, another thing she used the silk for.

Inger delicately moves around, daintily moving her hands as she tiptoed around Sebastian, her movements almost like watching a ballet. Sebastian watched her, studying her every move instead of making his own move himself. Inger took this as a sign and looked around the room and saw a rope and hook where a sandbag would have been hooked onto. She smirked to herself as she developed a plan in her head.

As she was distracted in her own thoughts, Sebastian quickly grabbed her by one of her arms and flung her down onto her back. She let out a yelp before glaring and not letting go of his arm and wrapping her legs around it as well and flipping on it, and kicking him in the face before flipping back onto the floor.

Sebastian cursed under his breath as his face scrunched up and he took a couple steps back. The timer went off and they both quickly went to get their things. Inger quickly wrapped part of the silk around her hand and held the other half while Seb put on his gloves and his blaster bracelets. They quickly ran back to the arena and Sebastian tried to shoot some blasts at her as she quickly dodged them all.

She reached up and connected the silk to the hook and made sure it was secure as Sebastian tried to lunge for her, but before he could she quickly pulled herself up and he missed. She smirked to herself before flipping back down and landing on top of him, making him fall onto his chest and groan. She smirked as she stood on top of him before climbing off and pulling the silk with her.

Sebastian quickly got back up and grabbed the silk, and tried to pull her back. She allowed him to pull her back before kicking him back again and wrapping him up in the silk and holding it down with one foot and one hand and whispering an ancient language to it.

Astrid watched as Sebastian's eyes began to glow silver and he blinked a couple of times before she saw that his lips were moving as well as he shut his eyes tightly and opened them again, no silver gleam anywhere.

"Yeah, not a big fan of the whole mind manipulation thing." Sebastian glared at Inger before tugging on the silk, making her yelp and fall back onto her back. The others watched in shock as he unraveled himself from the silk and stretched.

"But that's not possible!" Inger yelled angrily as she sat up and grabbed her silk, her face flush with anger at herself and Sebastian. "Well, I guess now it is." Sebastian smirked and shrugged as he walked off the arena.

-

Charles sat and drummed his fingers on his thighs, intrigued as to how William had created the net and wanting to see if he would be willing to work with him one day on a future invention.

"You're up, Tiny." Sebastian nodded towards Ariana and Charles snapped out of his thoughts as he looked over at her. She climbed out of her seat and sighed, smoothing down her hair. "You got this Ari." He said supportively and she smiled nervously at him. "Thanks Charlie." She said softly as she headed up to the arena.

She took off her wrist bracelets and set them aside and Eerikki set down his old faded spell book. Eerikki would be the first to admit that he was nervous. He was never good at hand-to-hand combat and preferred to use magic. He didn't think he would last a minute before he could even get to use his magic.

"Hi." Ari said awkwardly with a small wave and smile as she stood across from him. Eerikki raised a brow as he looked over at her, waving back a small bit; he assumed that she was just as nervous as he was, which made him feel a bit better.

Ari took a deep breath and closed her eyes before she looked back at him and began. She took a couple steps forward and moved around, curling her hands into fists as she waited for his attack. "C'mon, hit me." She mumbled under her breath. Eerikki walked up to her slowly and began to try and hit her, each one she dodged and blocked, trying to swing at him a couple times as well.

"C'mon, Ari, you got this." Charles mumbled as he watched, his eyes intently on the match. He knew she was waiting for them to be able to use their powers before she put up an actual fight, and he could tell that Eerikki was doing the same.

The timer went off and Ariana grinned before running over to her wrist cuffs and putting them on, Eerikki running to his spell book and opening it up and flipping through the pages to find the perfect spell.

He finally found one and smirked as he began to recite the enchantment, his hands and eyes having a purple and black mist come around them and shot the spell at her. Before it hit her, Ariana grinned before shrinking down to the size of an ant. Eerikki furrowed his brows as he looked around, trying to find her as she snuck up behind him.

She grew back to her normal size again and kicked him from behind, making him shuffle forward. She grinned as he went to hit her with another spell and she shrunk down again. Eerikki groaned in annoyance as he searched around before making a low white fog cover the ground, he could see where she moved and shot at her.

She groaned and grew back up to size again and he shot at her wrist bands, which broke off and rolled across the floor. "Uh oh." She mumbled as she got up and he began to swing at her, a shimmering black smoke around his hands. She dodged his first advances and tried to kick him in the face, but he grabbed her leg and flipped her onto her back. He went to go strike her out but she quickly sat up and blocked her face with her arms in an 'x' shape, anger and adrenaline raged through her.

Eerikki stumbled back and winced at the burning sensation in his hand once he had touched her skin. He looked over and saw that the x shape of her arms in front of her face had green flames possessing it and her skin seemed to radiate. She looked up at him, glaring down at him with her neon green eyes. "Now you've just pissed me off." She said, getting back on her feet.

Eerikki took a couple steps back nervously as he looked at her as she quickly grabbed her bands again and put them on. She shrunk back down and he looked around, the black smoke forming around his hands again. Suddenly he saw a tiny green light before him, but before he could even react, she punched him in the face and sent him straight to the ground.

-

James climbed up onto the arena after setting his father's shield down. Astrid has taken off her necklace and set it down as well and she immediately got into a combat stance.

He took a deep breath before he got into one as well. He had not expected her to already begin her fight, but he still had a lot to learn about the unexpected. She lunged at him almost immediately as he quickly dodged her attack, blocking his face with her wrists before swinging back, kneeing her near the ribs, not hard enough to break but hard enough to hurt.

She grimaced before swinging back at his face, twice as hard as he had kneed her. He grit his teeth as he stumbled a bit, before getting into posting again. She swung for him again with the other hand but he carefully blocked it by grabbing her hand before she could hit him again. He twisted her and held one arm behind her back and she elbowed him in the stomach. He groaned, finally letting go of her arm after some fight.

She growled at him, and as soon as the timer went off she ran to her necklace and tore the sword pendant from the chain, watching it turn to an actual golden sword with her name encrusted into it. James quickly grabbed the shield, being quick to kick her back as soon as she charged at him. He used the shield to block himself from her kicks and punches and quickly dodging her blade of the sword. He fell onto his back and kicked her in the stomach as she came near him, making her wince but not enough pain to keep her away. She reached her sword up over her head and went to slice him with it. James quickly grabbed his shield and used it as protection from the sword.

Suddenly, a loud crash went throughout the room as the ancient metal connected with vibranium and bounced off the walls of the room. The kids all ducked down and covered their heads as the sound echoed throughout the tower and electricity seemed to fill the air.

-

"Yeah, they're gonna need some work." Tony mumbled as he looked down at the kids and rubbed his eyes and sighed. "Lots and lots of work."

A/N: Sorry this chapter is super long and it kinda gets crappy/tired writing at the end... but I hope you guys enjoy it and I'm glad I wrote it :)
