‷BACKGROUND‴

James Grant Rogers sat in the midst of a sea of people surrounding him. His father, Steve, and his mother, Ash, by his side. Though the Avengers had broken up and retired long ago, the fame of the superhero team still fled around. His father, now weak but still strong, held the same patriotic spirit. He continued along with his faith and hope, but sometimes his wife got tired of the same old, same old. She held her firey spirit, even if she had grown older.

"Steve, I don't see the point in the fame. We're not doing anything. What's the point?" She grumbled, holding her husband's hand tightly as they made their way through the crowd, only stopping for pictures or autographs.

"Honey, they're just being nice. We have saved the world, I don't know, at least a dozen times. I think it's nice they show a little respect." Steve said, holding Ash's hand and using his other to put it on James's shoulder to direct him through the crowd.

"It doesn't feel right to me. We're not doing anything at the moment, so why do we deserve this fame? I want to be out there doing something, not laying around signing autographs and taking pictures." She said, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.

James looked back at his parents once they had finally reached through the crowd and walking down the cold, winter streets of New York. "Don't worry Mom, one day, I'm gonna do something that's gonna make the fame worth it." He promised, his famous "Golden Boy smile" plastered onto his face.

Ash smiled and reached over and kissed her son's cheek. "I'm sure you will, James. I'm absolutely sure you will."

Sebastian Barnes blared music from his phone as he sat in his room. He bobbed his head, his head going back and forth as his music echoed throughout the house. Bucky sat at the dining table, his metal fingers tapping against the wooden table. "Lilly, if he doesn't turn off that music-"

Lilly rolled her eyes, before handing Bucky a coffee. "Oh hush, James. He's a teenager, it's what they do." She said and Bucky chuckled softly. "How did I get married to someone that I can't argue with because they're so smart?" He asked, a teasing tone in his voice. Lilly chuckled softly, kissing his cheek. "I have no idea."

"Ew! Get a room, please!"

Lilly and Bucky turned to see William, their youngest son, standing at the end of the stairs, his laptop bag hanging over his shoulder and a grossed-out look upon his face as he watched his parents embrace. Bucky chuckled softly and Lilly rolled her eyes playfully but smiled.

"Good morning to you too, Billy." Lilly chuckled, walking over and pecking the top of her son's forehead before ruffling his hair. William groaned, fixing up the hair that he had freshly gelled. "Moooom, I told you not to do that!" He whined.

Lilly chuckled softly, kissing his forehead. "Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Cool." She teased, heading back over to the dining table, where all of her blueprints for her new inventions were laid across.

"Son, can you go ask your brother to turn down the music?" Bucky asked, looking over at William. William nodded. "Yes, sir." He nodded at his father, then walked back up the stairs to his brother's room.

"To think, they might be the heroes of the world one day." Lilly chuckled softly, sitting down across from Bucky and looking over her blueprints. Bucky looked up at her and frowned. "Lil, I thought I told you about that stuff. Sebastian and William deserve a better life than the superhero life. Sebastian can grow up and become an amazing athlete, and William can be an amazing computer scientist. They deserve to live a life where they don't have to be afraid of villains chasing them and fighting the bad guys."

Lilly sighed, looking back down at the blueprints. "I know, I know. But you can't control their lives, James. If they wanna be superheroes, they're going to be superheroes."

Bucky nodded, taking a chug of his coffee. There was the sound of the beginning of an argument forming upstairs, and Bucky and Lilly headed upstairs to break up the fight between the brothers.

Willow Banner looked over the notes her father had made on his studies. "Dad, you made a miscalculation. This is supposed to be 3, not 2." She told Bruce, looking back up at him, then down at the notes again.

Bruce looked back over at his notes and calculations and nodded. "Seems I have. Thanks for pointing that out, sweetheart." He said, before kissing the top of Willow's head. Mariela looked over at the notes as well, then smiled at her daughter. "I think Will's become the smartest one in the house." She teased at Bruce, ruffling his hair then smiling over at Willow.

Bruce smiled at Mari. "Yeah, she takes after her mother." He said, and she smiled back at him. "I think she takes after her father too." She chuckled softly, before Bruce's phone began to ring.

Bruce looked at them apologetically before getting up and walking out of the room. He quickly answered his phone, as Mariela and Willow talked to each other.

"Tony, what is it? It's 8 o'clock at night on a Sunday. Is it an emergency?" Bruce talked softly, pacing back and forth in the hall.

"Bruce, we gotta problem. You know those gamma ray detectors we set up in the lab? They're going off the charts. At first, I thought maybe you, or Jodi, or whatever other 'Hulk relatives' there are, were having a melt-down. But I was wrong. None of the gamma readings are from Earth." Tony explained hurriedly through the phone.

Bruce furrowed his brows. "Wait, not from Earth? Maybe there are just more powerful stars forming closer to the Earth." He tried to explained logically.

"Well, I looked more into it. There have been reports, things like magic creatures and massive technology attacks in major cities. It feels like something bigger is happening, just right over our heads." Tony said, Bruce hearing the confidence and worry in his voice.

"Maybe it's nothing, Tony." Bruce said calmly, even though his mind was racing. "But maybe it's something, Bruce." Tony said, before hanging up the call.

Charles Anthony Barton sat in the family barn, working on and tinkering with his newest invention. He had been working on it for months, but he still couldn't figure out what it did. "Hey dork. Dad wants you to come out of this barn for you to work on your archery." His twin sister, Natalie, told him as she walked into the barn.

"Tell him I'll be out in a second." Charles mumbled, his eyes still locked to the machinery in front of him. Natalie frowned, before leaning her elbows against the workshop table and looking over his work. "You know, instead of using your talent on this machine, you could be fixing the tractor."

"Aren't you supposed to be practicing your water magic stuff with mom?" He asked, avoiding her comment as he tried to tighten a screw on the contraption. "She was busy." Natalie shrugged nonchalantly. "Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm a master at this 'water-bending' stuff already." She said confidently, a grin on her face.

"Don't be too confident now, you're not that good." Charles smirked over at his sister, before getting up from his desk and stretching. Natalie frowned and stuck her tongue out at him. "Oh hush, Charlie. Besides, you act all high and mighty about your archery skills. You need to work on your aim and your distance. You spend too much time on this tech stuff, and not enough time with the bow and arrow."

Charles rolled his eyes. "Yeah, okay, dad." He said, a small sigh on his lips. "I'm telling the truth, you know. Mom and Dad are worried. They think you're turning into Uncle Tony." Natalie said, crossing her arms over her chest. "Look, I'm just looking out for you. I'm your sister, and if you get hurt because you hacve bad aim, I'm going to feel bad. And not just because we have that weird, 'twin connection' thing."

He chuckled softly. "Nat, there's no such thing as a twin connection. You made that up." He said, walking out of the barn with his twin sister. "It is so a thing! I'm gonna prove it too!" Natalie said, and the twins chuckled softly before walking back into the farmhouse where their parents waited.

"Inger, if you want to train with me, you're going to need to stop worrying about your shoes getting dirty and more about me lunging at you." Astrid said, a hand on her hip and the other holding her golden sword.

"I never said I wanted to train with you! Eerikki said if I didn't train with you, he would curse all my clothes to shrink every time I put them on!" Inger whined, crossing her arms over her chest as she pouted. Eerikki sat on the far side of the training room of the Asgardian palace, a spell book in hand as he looked up at his two sisters, then looked back down at his book.

"Technically I said that I might shrink your clothes. Never said that I actually would." Eerikki said as he read over his spell book. Inger groaned and Astrid rolled her eyes at her two younger siblings. "You two are ridiculous." She sneered, putting down her sword and walking out of the training room.

Inger quickly followed her older sister, and Eerikki groaned and got up from his spot and followed his two sisters. The three siblings walked down the halls of the Asgardian palace, constantly bickering and arguing as they made their way to the Throne room.

They entered, smiling at the guards in a friendly manor, and walking over to their parents. "Father, please tell Inger and Eerikki that in order to be prepared for future attacks on Asgard, they must train for battle." Astrid said, her hands on her hips.

"Well, please tell Astrid that magic is just as powerful as swinging around a sword." Eerikki said, glaring at his older sister. "And that wit and cleverness can get you out of things just as much as magic and swordsmanship can." Inger said, crossing her arms over her chest as she also glared at her older siblings.

"Children, please, I do not have time for silly arguments. There are many things going on right now, that I must deal with. Now please, I can deal with this later." Thor said, waving away his three children, before discussing things with the closest guard.

The children looked among themselves, eyebrows furrowed and a concerned look upon their faces. "What sort of things, Father?" Astrid asked, stepping closer to Thor.

"Children, that is none of your concern right now. Please, let your father work. He's very busy at the moment. Now come with me, please." Hannah said, before leading her three children out of the Throne room, where decisions for a future battle were taking place.

Ariana Lang sat in her room, sprawled across her bed where she had spent the majority of her day. She was grounded, like usual, for being caught shoplifting from a candy store.

Jodi stood in the door frame, looking over at her daughter. She sighed, before walking over to her bed and sitting down on the corner of it. "Ari, talk to me. Please." She said, looking over at Ariana. "I couldn't help it, Mom. It's like, I had this urge. Like an itch, that I just needed to scratch. I thought, I didn't, I needed-" She sighed, burying her face in the pillow.

Jodi sighed and reached up and stroked her hair. "Honey, it's fine. I know you're going through this. I just want you to know that me and your father are here for you. And we love you. More than you think we do."

Ariana lifted her head from her pillow and gave a small smile to her more. She got up from her position on the bed then crawled over to Jodi, and laid her head on her lap. Jodi smiled down at her and stroked her hair. Scott knocked on the door and smiled at the two. "How are two of my favorite girls doing?" He said, walking over and sitting down on the bed next to Jodi.

"Two of your favorites? Who's the other?" Ari asked, looking up at her father. "Well, you, your mom, and Cassie. That's all." He chuckled softly, ruffling his daughter's hair. Jodi and Ariana chuckled softly, before falling back into a comfortable silence. The soft pitter patter of the rain outside and the soft music playing on Scott's old vinyl records made a peaceful scene.

It was one of the few peaceful scenes the family would see for a while.

Woooh! Foreshadow, drama, etc.! All Jodi specialties... JK, not really. I'm better at writing fluff, lol. Anyways, it's like 12 a.m. here, and I'm tired, but I hope you enjoyed!
