Brilliant - Peter Parker
Sunday 15 November 2015
It was sunday and the world was in mourning. The usually almost empty park was today filled with familes and couples appreciating life.
At first glance everyone seemed happy. The children ran around laughing, their parents playing with them, smiles plastered on their faces.
But when the children turned away the parents smiles faltered, as they watched their children. Glad that they still have them. Glad that they weren't in the wrong place the day before.
You sat watching them from a park bench. Watching the shadows of the trees grow closer as the sun made it's journey across the sky.
On your lap was your camera, your hands lovingly entwined into the strap.
You had been meaning to take photos for your camera club but it hadn't seemed right.
You felt the seat move slightly as someone sat beside you.
Turning your head your saw a boy about 18 with brown hair and a dark green coat. In his hands he also held a camera like yours.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi." You replied.
"I like your camera." He said, the corner of his lips twitching slightly as his camera was the exact same model as yours.
You smiled, "Thanks. It was a difficult choice, this one or the one you have."
He grinned, looking down and shaking his head slightly.
"I'm Peter." He said, raising his head.
You smiled, "(Y/n). It's nice to meet you."
"Yeah. Nice to meet someone who has such good taste in cameras."
"Taken any good photos?" You asked.
"Only one." Peter said, not making an effort to show you.
You nodded slowly.
"How 'bout yourself?"
"Nah. It didn't feel right. Not today."
Peter nodded, "I know what you mean. It's a... it's awful. Do you know anyone there?"
You opened your mouth to answer but you were interrupted by a squealing of breaks as a battered truck came rocketing around the corner and skidded at full speed towards the playground.
A few parents reacted quickly, snatching their child out of the trucks path but a few children remained in the way.
You gaped in shock, horrified at the scene unfolding before you.
Then you saw Peter, his camera discarded on the grass in front of the bench as he sprinted at an almost inhuman speed towards the truck. He leaped over it and from your angle you saw him shoot threads from his wrists towards the truck and attaching him to the wall of the shop opposite. The truck strained against the tethers but stopped in it's path, inches away from crushing a pair of young children in the sandpit.
You couldn't see Peter as he was obscured by the truck but then you saw a figure in red and blue. Spiderman. He was webbing the man who'd been driving the truck to the wall. Taking a glance around, you picked up Peter's camera and ran towards the spiderman.
He turned around before you reavched him and gave you a two fingered salute before he scaled the building and disappeared.
You stopped in shock, looking around for Peter though you knew you wouldn't find him.
Beginning your walk home you wondered how you'd get Peter's camera back to him. You noticed a name written on the strap "Peter Parker".
Well, that makes it easier to stalk him on facebook.
You flicked through his photos to try find anything to help you contact him.
The most recent photo caught you off guard. It was you. Sitting on the park bench, your hair perfectly illuminated in the sunlight. You actually looked nice. It was a nice photo.
"Hey. Isn't that an invasion of my privacy?"
You turned around to see the speaker. Peter.
He had his jacket and hoodie on but his t shirt was replaced by the spiderman suit, only visible at the neckline.
"Says the one who sneakily took a photo of me." You replied with a raised eyebrow.
Peter laughed, "Hey, I was going to delete it but it was the only good photo I've taken recently. I guess it helps to have a good subject."
You flushed red, involuntarily looking down.
You heard him take a few steps closer.
"Well, here's your camera." Passing it to him, you raised your head. "Good job stopping that truck."
Peter's mouth gaped slightly and you nodded at his neckline. "Nice suit."
He brought his hand up to his face. "How did I manage that."
"Maybe you were in a rush to get your camera back?" You suggested with a shrug.
"Or see you."
You blinked slowly as Peter, again, caught you off guard.
"Sorry. I- (Y/n), will you go to dinner with me sometime?" Peter asked, holding his camera behind his back with both hands.
"I'd love to."
"Okay I understand I- wait. Yes?"
You nodded and Peter jumped slightly.
"Brilliant. I'll uh... can I have your number?"
"Of course Peter."
"Brilliant."
