Vacation All I Ever Wanted
A/n: Happy New Year!
For obvious reasons, the Avengers didn't go on vacation a lot.
Tony Stark used to, but then duties as a superhero were a bit too big to escape. Plus, the bad guys usually found him anyway.
Steve Rogers was never able to afford them, and didn't see the point in them.
Thor didn't really "vacation" when he lived on Asgard full-time, as none of the trips were ever really for pleasure or leisure time. There was always some ulterior motive to teach him how to be king.
Natasha Romanoff only went on missions, never vacations.
Clint Barton has brought his family to New York City a couple times, but never much further because there were too many threats.
Bruce Banner was so focused on school when he was young that vacations weren't much of a priority, and then he became the Hulk and was never comfortable going out in populated areas.
You came from an orphanage so there were never vacation opportunities. That, plus you were extremely shy and didn't do loud places. It freaked you out.
So it came to all of you as a shock when Sam Wilson told you guys to go on a trip. "Come on, it'll be good for you guys. No suits, no weapons, just you guys relaxing. You're all scary tense and it's freaking us all out."
Steve shook his head. "But what if Hydra starts to cause a problem, or some other enhanced or-"
"We'll have it covered," the Vision interrupted. "The rest of us will be here, on alert, and will take care of any threats that may pop up while you are gone. The trip is only a week, it will be okay."
You looked around at your fellow Avengers, the original seven from the Battle of New York. Ever since that day, all of your full-time jobs have been superhero-ing. The others were more like part-timers. At least Rhodey and Sam were.
"We absolutely trust you guys," Clint said, "but I don't know if I can actually relax."
Wanda stepped forward. "Try. Sit by the pool. Explore the ports. Forget about dieting and exercising. Just for a week. You guys seriously deserve it."
By the next morning, the seven of you were all packed and ready to go for the cruise. You had never been on a cruise ship before, and this one sounded pretty nice, so you were actually excited.
Tony's private jet took you guys to the nearest airport to the port, in Port Canaveral in Florida. It was a nice, warm, Caribbean cruise. You could already feel yourself relax when you stepped out of the jet.
But then it came time to board the ship, and the massive crowds were insane. It wasn't even that they were all bothering you guys (a few kids came up and asked for pictures, and you guys were happy to oblige), it was just there were a lot of tired and annoyed people who wanted their vacations to start already.
Beside you, Bruce was getting tense. "Hey, it's fine, they're all just annoyed and tired people. Nothing bad will happen, and if anything starts we'll calm it down."
But then Bruce took a few deep breaths and shook his head. "No. Nope. We're not getting involved in anything. We're on vacation. We deserve this."
It seemed to work on him, and suddenly Bruce was relaxing and looking at his phone instead of the crowds.
When you guys finally got on the ship, you were led to your room. Yep, room. That worried you at first, because five full-sized adults plus two huge-ass adults wouldn't room well together.
Then you arrived at the suite and realized you'd be fine. There were several bedrooms and more than enough beds, as well as other common areas. It was perfect.
You and Nat decided to room together, letting the boys hash out their own rooming assignments. You'd be shocked if Tony didn't end up with his own room, all to himself.
After checking out your space and being informed bags would be delivered in a few hours, you and Nat decided to check out the rest of the ship. You would all meet in an hour for lunch in the restaurant on deck 11.
Because of this, you and Nat decided to go down and work your way up from there. And boy, was it a huge ship. Like, massive. There were so many floors- decks, actually. And while the first couple were all rooms, from there, it felt like each floor had something that was cool about it.
The two of you also found plenty of bars to check out later. And, to your surprise, on the pool deck there was a '21+' area, meant to be quiet and peaceful for adults who didn't care for kids running and splashing. Perfect for you.
By the time it was time to meet the others, you were really excited for this trip.
"What do we think so far? Cause I'm thinking I'm going to love this," you said as you sat down, a plate of food in your hands. That buffet was going to be your best friend this week.
"I think it will be splendid!" Thor boasted, taking a stab at the pile of meat in front of him.
Steve nodded. "It's nice not having to worry about the bad guys for a bit, and trusting those who are."
"I've missed this," Tony added, and you could tell he wasn't trying to brag about anything- he really did miss being able to relax for a while.
So far, it looked like everyone was on board. Ha, get it?
The first day was at sea. You spent most of it in the adult pool area, reading one of the books you brought. You only had a couple chapters left when Natasha forced you to come sit and talk with her in one of the pretty bars you had seen yesterday. You enjoyed the drinks very much.
The next day was Cozumel, Mexico. None of you had booked an excursions- those were long past booked. So, your group just decided to wander around the immediate area. There were several shops, and you found yourself wandering into one selling hand-painted leather purses and wallets.
You walked out with a new purse and felt very happy for yourself.
That night was a "fancy" dinner, so you all dressed up in suits and gowns. It was kind of fun, and you were very happy that Wanda made sure to tell you guys to pack some nice outfits.
The next day was Grand Cayman, another island in the sea. You guys were able to book a private boat that took you out to a place called Stingray City, were you were able to walk on the ocean floor and hang out with some sting rays.
You guys got several pictures of each other with stingrays, and then a couple group photos. According to one of the tour guides, it was good fortune to kiss a stingray. You, Thor, and Clint were the only ones to do it, the others being party poopers.
That night, you were exhausted and salty, so after a quick shower you hit the bar you and Nat went to before to grab a drink before dinner.
The vacation was going very well so far. At least, that was until Jamaica.
When you guys got there, it turned out Sam managed to book a single, last minute excursion for you guys. To Dunn's River Falls. Turns out, it was a gigantic waterfall that people climbed up. No joke.
So, you guys did it. You did great- climbing was one of your strong suits. Along with you, Nat and Clint also managed to not fall in.
Bruce fell in once at the very beginning, but was good the rest of the time.
Steve fell in five times. He was having a very hard time trying to not slip and fit his big feet on small rocks.
Tony fell the most (on accident) at twelve times. You almost thought he was doing it on purpose, until he'd come up and have a pissed off look on his face.
Thor, however, thought it was hilarious. Since he's a pretty big guy, anytime he fell in, there'd be a huge splash, and all the kids around would squeal with delight. This made Thor very happy, so he'd do over and over and over and over again...
It was pretty funny though.
A photographer and videographer came along, too, documenting the journey. Tony, despite his protests, ending up buying the biggest package of photos and videos at the very end.
Back on the ship, you were pretty exhausted. Now, there was a day at sea followed by a stop at the cruise line's private island.
As you thought, though, you realized it was a good exhausted. Your body didn't ache and you didn't feel upset or mad. You felt content, and like you had made some good memories.
Despite the rough time Tony had, the next day he was up and ready for the gang to hang out. There was an 80s Music trivia game happening, so you all went. Poor Steve and Thor were very confused, so you guys figured being one giant team was the best course of action.
And it appeared that you guys were more than just a team on the battlefield. You all managed to get all the answers right, even though there were a couple disagreements that threatened the streak.
But you weren't the only ones. Another team also got all fifteen questions right, and so you had to do a tie breaker.
"All right," the emcee started. "For the tie breaking question, whoever writes the correct answer down and holds it up first wins our ultimate gift basket. Are we ready?"
You looked at each face of your team and nodded, then back up and nodded to the emcee. "We're ready." The other team did the same.
"All right. For the tie breaking question... which album did Queen release first in the 1980s?"
Your mind was racing. Out of the seven of you, you were the most knowledgable in the band, since they were your absolute favorite. You poured over the albums.
"Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, Night At The Opera, Day At the Races..." you mumbled away. It got a bit fuzzy, but suddenly, your eyes went wide and you got it. "Gimme!" you whisper-yelled, grabbing hold of the whiteboard and marker.
Quickly, in barely legible writing, you scribbled the answer down, but it seemed you were too late. "And the Nifty Fifties are up first! And it's- oh! It's wrong! The Not Avengers have a chance!"
Your arm shot up and the emcee read it. "Correct! The answer was 'The Game', released in 1980. Congratulations, the Not Avengers!"
Everyone cheered, and you all congratulated each other. The emcee came over with the giant basket, full of stuff you guys would have to look through when you got back to the suite.
"Coming up in twenty minutes is Cruise Line trivia! Stick around if you want to test yourself in trivia of the sea!"
You looked at the others. "I'm game."
And so for the next few hours, you guys played all kinds of trivia games. You won two, the 80s Music and Famous Movie Quotes- even Steve was able to pull a few correct answers out. It was around two in the afternoon when you guys called it quits, decided to grab some lunch and then hit the pool.
"Do you think I could ride the giant waterslide?" Thor asked Bruce next to him.
"It looks pretty big, I'd say yeah. Plus, I don't think anyone could look at you and say no, so..."
Even if Thor would never, people didn't know he wouldn't throw a punch or two to get his way. Again, he wouldn't dare, not while on vacation. But the people who had to look up nearly a foot to see him wouldn't think that.
At the pool, Thor roped you into going down the slide with him when he found out it was pairs on a tube. But really, he didn't have to work that hard. Nat might be your bestie on the team, but you always loved how playful Thor was.
"Are you ready for the epic waterslide?" Thor asked as you guys got up to the top, only a few groups in front of you now.
You smiled. "Oh yeah! I don't think I've ever been on a waterslide this cool, going over the ocean and all that," you commented, taking a look at the section that jutted out over the side of the deck, right above the ocean.
When it was your turn, you got in the front (duh) and Thor pushed you guys so hard that you shot off into the slide much faster than the lifeguard wanted you to.
The two of you hooted and hollered through the tube, laughing and taking in all the people below, looking at the two of you zoom through. Then, you two went through an opaque tunnel and found yourselves zooming to the end.
You bounced off the end of the slide, nearly going back up into the tunnel, but you were laughing too hard to care. Thor got out first and hoisted you out after.
"Thank you for going with me, Lady (Y/n)," he said.
Smiling, you replied, "Anytime."
Thor went on the slide seven times, once with each Avenger. The hardest to convince were Natasha and Bruce. Nat couldn't resist for long, though, and Thor had to promise Bruce he wouldn't go as fast with him as he did the others.
You always knew Thor was a child on the inside, but it was really nice to see everyone else follow in suit.
The next day was the private island, and your group found a really good spot on the beach to hang out until lunch. You situated yourself on a chair under the shade and finished your book from the beginning of the trip, feeling very proud when you finished it.
Being an Avenger meant not having a lot of time to sit around and read, and audiobooks weren't the best when you were training. So this was nice.
After finished the book, you waded in the ocean a bit, enjoying the pretty water. Then once you guys went and ate lunch, you rented a tube and floated around the water for a while, glad it was calm enough for you to do so.
For your last night at dinner, you all dressed up again and talked about how much fun the trip was. Sure, this couldn't happen often, because you can't always leave the others to take care of everything, but it was nice while it lasted.
Leaving the next morning was hard and you wish you didn't have to, but you had to go back to reality at some point. Plus, that was the only way to appreciate the vacation even more.
"I can't wait to hear how everything went while we were gone," Steve said, and you all made noises of agreement. "Surely nothing too horrible happened."
"Oh definitely not, we would've heard about it otherwise," Tony replied.
The ride back to the tower was spent going through photos and compiling all of them into a shared photo album so everyone could enjoy them. When you got back, Sam was waiting to greet you guys.
"So, how was it?" he asked, already knowing what you were going to say.
All of you talked over each other, about how relaxing and fun it was to just exist like any other person for a while. Thor started talking about the waterslide while Bruce mentioned how awesome the room was for the group.
"How'd it go here?" you asked once the chatter started to calm down.
Sam shrugged. "Nothing major happened. And if I'm being honest, nothing really happened at all. Just typical little things we don't need to do but the police get scared and want back up. I'm kind of tired of bank robberies.
Steve laughed and the two of them walked off to chat, one Captain to a future one.
You went back to your room, unloading all your bags and finding homes for your new trinkets and other souvenirs (you got more than you care to admit).
It was nice to have these little reminders of your amazing trip. Maybe this would become a yearly thing. You'd have to work on making that happen.

I hope you guys liked this one! I'm trying to figure out what you guys like more, so let me know! If there are certain characters you like, certain situations, whatever! Not in the sense of requests per se, because those are still on halt, but just what vibes you come here in hopes of finding :)
