Triplets (Maximoff's)

"Hey, you must be Shawn?"

The man looked at you with a smile. "That must make you (Y/n). So nice to meet you!"

You smiled back and sat down next to him at the bar, luckily a different one than where you worked. He flagged down the bartender, you placed your order, and then it was time to actually talk to this guy.

"I'm really glad my roommate works with you and was able to set this up," Shawn said.

Another smile from you. "Me too, always nice to have people looking out for you," you agreed. A few seconds later, your drink was in front of you and you had something to sip on. "So, are you from here?"

The small talk continued. You were pretty good at first dates by now, considering you've had a few. They never seem to work out, and you knew exactly why. You always seemed "too depressing" after they asked you all of the questions that had depressing answers.

Tonight seemed to be going well, as you had Shawn talking a lot and only had to answer easy, happy questions, like about how long you'd been working at the Wildfire Bar. Easy, good ice breakers.

However, it always goes south too fast because all the depressing stuff in your life happened to be related to every "get to know you question."

"So, are you from around here?" Shawn asked. Poor Shawn, unknowing to what he just opened.

See, you could just lie, but you never want to build anything off of lies.

You contain your grimace and shake your head. "Uh, no, actually, I'm from out of the country."

Shawn lit up. "Woah, really? Where from then?" Poor, poor Shawn.

"Uh, Sokovia? I don't know if you've heard of it, it's pretty small," you said, hoping to move on.

They never do. "I have actually, yeah! Why'd you come to the US?" He looked so intrigued.

You cleared your throat. "Well, I was in an orphanage and they sent me here to join the foster system since my chances were higher. Not by a lot, but they were higher."

Shawn looked very awkward all of a sudden. "Oh no, what happened to your parents?"

"They- well, our house was bombed. I was the only one in my family who survived."

"Family? Do you- did you have siblings?" The quick correction was awkward, and you saw the look of "please kill me" flash across Shawn's face.

You nodded. "Yeah, I was actually a triplet, but, uh, not anymore," you said, trying to laugh it off at the end.

Shawn didn't say anything, he just looked at you with horror. You took a long drink before setting your glass back down on the bar. "Welp, this was fun while it lasted. Sorry, Shawn," you said. You stood up from the barstool, gave Shawn a small pat on the shoulder, and left.

The next day at work, your coworker sighed. "Seriously, (Y/n)? You left?"

"What was I supposed to do?" you asked, throwing your arms up. "I'm not gonna lie to the guy! I don't mean to get all sad and depressing it just- it just happens because my life is sad and depressing."

Your coworker, Gus, laughed. "You might need to find creative ways to truthfully answer the question, or at least say you don't wanna talk about it until the fourth or fifth date!"

Despite the topic, you were smiling as you shook your head. "You know what, Gus? I-"

"Hey! It's the Avengers!"

You and Gus turned to look at the TV the man was pointing to. You read the scrolling headline and gasped.

"Turn the volume on."

Gus did as asked, and the newsperson's voice filled the now quiet bar.

"The Avengers defeated a robot enemy, one called 'Ultron' in Sokovia earlier this morning. However, the country was somehow lifted out of the ground before being dropped back down to Earth, leaving the citizens who made it out homeless and from a country that no longer exists."

It was the mention of your home, Sokovia, that first caught your eye. But then, you saw a video taken on someone's phone that had been posted to YouTube. They were hiding behind a wall as a girl that looked the same age as you used red magic to tear robots apart.

"The girl in the video, who's been identified as Wanda Maximoff, helped the Avengers..."

"Holy shit. Maximoff? As in (Y/n) Maximoff?" Gus asked from beside you.

Your eyes remained glued to the screen. "She's alive," you whispered. "Maybe they're all alive."

Gus placed a hand on your shoulder. "What do you want to do?" he asked.

"Sit down before I pass out."

You were let off work early that day. You couldn't imagine being able to continue your shift after finding out that you weren't the sole Maximoff survivor. If Wanda survived, then maybe Pietro did, too. Maybe so did your parents.

Now the problem was figuring out how to talk to Wanda. You had to do this in person, to hug her and feel that she's alive. However, you had no idea how to find her. She wouldn't stay in Sokovia if it had gotten completely destroyed.

For the next few weeks, when you weren't hiding how you truly felt at work, you were figuring out how to find your sister. You thought about the Avengers tower as the most obvious choice, but then you heard that the Avengers weren't really staying there anymore.

So now you had no ideas. It's not like you could just go to Google and ask where the Avengers lived (you already tried).

"I have no idea what to do, Gus. Like, genuinely no idea. I need to find her but I try to post some huge thing on social media, people will just think I'm crazy and I don't need to be that public."

Gus nodded as he handed out a drink. "Well, I can help look around, see what I can find. I'm pretty good at navigating different internet spaces."

You smiled. "That would mean everything to me, Gus, thank you." You pulled him into a hug and then got back to work, now with a new pep in your step.

It was another couple weeks before either of you found something. "(Y/n)!"

You turned quickly and saw Gus hurrying through the door. "What? What?" you asked once he got behind the counter.

"I've got a lead."

That's how you found yourself on a roadtrip to New York. Not the city, however, but somewhere upstate. Gus found some Reddit thread about how people had seen some cool looking building in the trees, but could never get close because of security measures.

That sounded like what you were looking for.

You drove for what felt like seven days straight, but you finally got to the place those Reddit users had been talking about. Through the trees, you swore you saw the Avengers logo.

That's also about when you found the security gate everyone also talked about on that thread.

"I'm sorry, this is private property, I need you to turn around and head back home." The security guard had on sunglasses, so you couldn't really see his eyes, but you could tell that he was looking around you and your car.

"Please, sir, I need to see Wanda Maximoff. I- just tell her my name, (Y/n)," you begged the guard. His hesitation made you feel like you were getting to him. "Please, sir, this is really important. Just tell her my name. That's all I ask."

He looked to be contemplating internally, before he turned away and started talking into his earpiece.

"I've got someone here looking to speak with Wanda Maximoff, says their name is (Y/n)... just- just tell her about them and get back to me." He turned back to you. "Wait here."

You rolled up your window and waited. Music was softly playing through your car, some song you half recognized but didn't really know or care to know. All you could focus on was your roaring heartbeat.

Only a couple minutes later, the security guard came back into your view, and then you saw the gates open up. He nodded and you and then you were driving forward, in autopilot mode.

Your brain was alive with excitement, anxiety, and fear. You had no idea what was about to happen and it actually scared you. Of course good things could happen, but so could bad things. She might not believe you. She could be thrilled you're alive. Who knows.

When you finally saw the facility in full view, you were in awe. The building was massive and very impressive. You were in awe as you drove up to it and wondered what it must look like inside. Obviously equally as impressive.

The road brought you right up to the front, where there were a lot of people waiting, all security like the man at the gate.

You parked the car and turned it off before stepping out of the vehicle. None of the security said anything, so you just looked around the property awkwardly. Off to the side, it looked like a weird circle in the grass.

"(Y/n)?"

The hesitant word caused you to turn around quickly and face the woman you thought long gone.

"Wanda..." you whispered, tears already coming to your eyes. She was alive and standing just ten feet away.

While she may have been hesitant at first, the second you turned Wanda knew it really was you.

"Oh my god..." she whispered, and now she had tears in her eyes, too.

The two of you hurried to each other, meeting right in the middle in a bone-crushing hug. You both cried and talked, saying how glad you were that the other was alive and how happy you both were to be seeing the other.

"Come on, let's get inside," Wanda said, tears still coming down.

She had her arm wrapped around your shoulders and led you inside. The security relaxed after seeing that Wanda did, in fact, know who you are, and that you weren't some weird faker.

Wanda brought you to her room, ignoring and dodging everyone who crossed your path. They'd hear all about it later.

Once in her room, she shut the door and sat down with you on the edge of her bed. You launched into your story first, telling her about being taken to live in the Sokovian orphanage before you were moved to the foster care system in the United States in hopes of giving you a better chance. While it might not have given you the chance for a family, it gave you the chance at having a successful life.

Wanda felt pain. You were alive and were struggling all by yourself when you should of had your other two triplets right by your side.

Then, Wanda told you what happened. How your parents didn't make it and she and Pietro hid for days while staring the bomb right in the eye. Then, when they got out, they found Hydra and volunteered to be experimented on. All they wanted was to find a place to belong after everything was destroyed.

When she told you about that, all you could wonder is what life could have been like if all three of you had stuck together in an orphanage. It sounded horrible, being at Hydra.

When Wanda took your hands and held them tight, you got scared.

"I... after we decided to fight with the Avengers... Pietro, he..." Wanda closed her eyes and more tears slipped out, finishing the thought she was trying to tell you.

You removed one hand to place over your mouth. "No..." you gasped out. Just when hope was restored that the three of you would be together again, it was ripped right from your hands.

"He saved Clint Barton and a child's life. I just wish..." The sobs became too much and the two of you pulled each other into another strong hug.

You shook your head lightly. "I'm here, though. We've got each other again, we can... we can do this. Together."

The two of you pulled apart and Wanda gave you a bright, yet watery smile.

"Together."

The Avengers were thrilled to meet you the next day, after you had the chance to settle in. You didn't have powers like Wanda does or Pietro did. It made you worried- would they even let you stay? You couldn't stand being away from Wanda again.

But they didn't object. All you had to do was drive back home and tie up the loose ends, like moving out of your apartment and quitting your job. Gus was so excited for you, even though he said he'd miss you so much. You said you'd come and visit.

With a rented U-haul and a supportive sister, you made your way back to the Avengers facility, where a room was all ready for you to move into. It was right next to Wanda's, of course.

For months, all you did was be with Wanda. You two got to know each other again and reminisced on your childhood, even rewatching some of your favorite TV shows.

The Avengers could see Wanda opening up more and becoming the girl she used to be, and they also got to know you more and found out you loved working with technology and things, so you got to learn new things while there.

After a while, you got good enough to be helpful with missions, monitoring things from home base and fixing things when needed.

It was nearly a year and a half after you and Wanda had reconnected when you were getting ready to help with the next mission. As you left your room, a photo caught your eye. It was one Wanda had given you, one she salvaged of you, her, and Pietro.

The three of you looked so similar, even though you all were so different. You then looked at yourself in the mirror and picked out the details that reminded you of your siblings. You smiled.

"Together."
