The Show Must Go On
The Show Must Go On
*Get ready for a longer author's note*
Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for?
You stood in the center of the Wakandan palace room. You had no clue what it was for, but you knew that it held many memories with T'Challa and Shuri. It was an important room to them, and now it held no life but yours. And you were leaving soon. The palace was nearly empty, which terrified you, but Steve and Nat insisted that you go home with them. Back to New York. It was their home, not yours, as you were native to Wakanda.
You missed your best friends. Shuri and T'Challa were two of your best friends, and when you found out they got turned into dust... you're pretty sure you're out of tears at this point. You looked around the room, sweeping with your eyes, at all the details in the carvings and the beauty. This room had a significance at one point, but now it just held screams of disappearing people. Your people.
Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore?
"(Y/N)?" You turned around from where you were standing, and saw Steve standing in the doorway. His face was down, and he looked...empty. But he wasn't the only one. "We're leaving soon." With that, he turned and left the room. You understood that this meant that you had to wrap up your good byes and leave. As you left, you could already hear commotion of people breaking in and stealing priceless artifacts from their own palace.
The jet wasn't far, but you took one of the longer routes there so you could be in the palace you partially grew up in for a little bit longer, even if it's just one measly minute. The high tech palace would be ravaged, torn apart, and mourned in many ways, and you weren't going to be there for any of it.
Finally the exit was about twenty feet in front of you, and this meant this was your final minutes in your home. You had to be strong for the team. They were all suffering so much, you knew you had to be the light in their darkness, they'd be depending on you.
The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
As you walked out of the palace you gave out a small smile to everyone. Only Natasha was able to give you a weak attempt at one in return. Bruce was in the jet already, most likely beating himself up, Thor was sitting a seat down from him, looking down at his hands with disgust almost, Steve had just lost two of his close friends, Rhodey had lost Tony and Sam, and then there was the poor raccoon that was all alone among people he didn't know. Everyone was hurting, and Wanda was probably a huge reason. Watching Vision die twice...
Okoye was there for you and offered you a hug. "You will be okay," she whispered to you. You took in a shaky breath and let go of the hug and looked at her.
"So will you," you returned. You gave each other one last smile before you walked away and got onto the jet. You opted to sit by yourself in the corner, closest to the pilot. Everyone else came in and Steve got ready to fly the jet back to New York. Away from your home, back to theirs. They needed it, but what about you?
Nonetheless, your smile stayed on, even if it was light.
Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?
The jet was off, and a few hours later, you were at the new Avengers facility in upstate New York. As soon as it was okay, everybody left the jet in a hurry. Thor took a second to get up, so you came over to him and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. He looked up at you.
"If you need anybody, I'll always be here," you offered to the broken god. He nodded and gave you the tiniest smile.
"Thank you (Y/N)," he whispered, as if he was scared his voice would break if it went any louder. You nodded, and gave his shoulder a small squeeze of comfort, and walked off the jet. Tony had made you and T'Challa rooms at the facility on the off chance you'd want to visit. Now, you were thankful.
On your way, Natasha stopped you. You turned to her and saw sympathy in her eyes. "Are you okay? You've been smiling and stuff, but I know you better than that," she asked. It was true, she knew you the best out of the team, and now it felt like an annoyance.
Of course you weren't freaking okay! You lost half of your people including your two best friends and the closest you had to siblings. They meant so much to you, and then you had just been ripped from your home to a place you've never been to. How could you possibly be okay?
Rather than ranting, you just gave a solemn nod. "I'll be okay," you replied. You tore your arm from hers and hurried to your room. But you wanted to say one more thing. You stopped in your tracks about five feet from the now blond, and turned your head back to her. "Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance." And you kept going to your room.
I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, 'round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free
It had been a few months now since the snap occurred, and it was still hitting the world hard. You had learned that former Director Fury and his right-hand-woman Maria Hill had gotten turned to dust as well. Now, it was up to you and any other willing person to stop the wrong in the world. Natasha said she was still looking for Clint, because she was sure he was still alive. "He has to be," she whispered to herself when she was sure yo had left her. But you still heard.
You were learning to train and be better to help this aching world. The others didn't really know about your disappearances, only Bruce did because he had caught you once. Nobody was ever in a saving mood, so it was only you.
This morning, you looked out the window to find the sun rising slowly over the horizon. It made it look like everything was okay, but god it was far from it. Things will never be 'okay' again. For not not just the Avengers, but for everyone.

A year later, it was time to face off against Thanos one last time. Scott had returned from where he was stuck, Tony had come back with two female aliens Nebula and Captain Marvel, and you were all positive that this was the way to get everyone back. After Tony had a good sized meal, he helped you all work together to come up with a plan. Even Clint had been found in a new persona, Ronin, and was willing to kill the bastard that dusted his family away.
Now you were all in front of Thanos himself, ready to destroy him once and for all. The final show.
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly my friends
Your confidence was soaring into the sky as you all charged at the giant being, ready to fight him and kill him, then getting the gauntlet to open up the soul world. You were the very first to get to Thanos and you struck the side of his face with a blast of ice. He was taken aback and everyone came in at once, fighting the grape on steroids.
He was angry, he had no army and was against way more people than he had on his side. But that didn't mean he didn't have tricks up his sleeve...gauntlet...he had surprise attacks. The first one was quick. He fell the ground and managed to kick at and swipe the legs out from under multiple people at the front. The stronger ones. You came in after then, attempting to shoot icicle spikes at his ugly ballsack face. He held up a shield made from one of the stones on his golden glove. He glared at you after one made it to his chest and struck him on his left shoulder.

The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On with the show
He shot a blast from the power stone at you and it threw you backwards, into a rock or something else hard, and you heard a loud crack. Your breathing gat harder and your mouth was being filled rapidly with blood, and despite your body's protests, you got up anyways and ran back towards him. The throbbing in your torso area was strong, but your adrenaline was even stronger.
You vaulted upwards and fell towards Thanos. Your foot made a hard land on the top of his bald head and he was thrown back slightly by this. You let out a toothy smile, blood smearing across your pearly whites. Your victory was cut short when Thanos made a sneaky move and swatted you backwards with his gloved hand. The shock was enough to take you back, but the added force from his hit sent you flying backwards once more, landing hard once more, but unable to get back up this time.
Rather than being able to get back up and join the fight, you laid with other dead brothers and sisters of the battle and smiled at your teammates finally killing Thanos and reversing the snap.
I'll top the bill, I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
The snap was reversed and everyone started reappearing out of thin air, basically reversing the snap. People appeared from floating ashes like magic, including the rest of the Avengers. You saw the happiness on Tony's face when he saw Peter again, the two embracing like a father and son. You saw the tears in both Steve and Bucky's eyes when they saw each other again. Thor managed to find Loki in the crowd of people and they finally gave each other a long overdue hug. Sam appeared and gave Rhodey a hug, as well as Steve after he was done with his boyfriend. Then you looked and saw Rocket and his team reuniting again.
You sat in the dirt, smiling and fading in and out of consciousness. When you saw T'Challa and Shuri pop up next to each other, your eyes widened and you tried to sit up and get their attention. With that move, however, you were thrown into a fit of bloody coughs. Shuri heard this and looked over to you.
Your body was sickly pale and awkwardly bent at the torso area where it shouldn't, and the area around you was covered in blood. "(Y/N)!" she yelled, before running over to you. She came over with T'Challa following. Both of them fell to their knees beside you. T'Challa held you head and hand while Shuri covered her mouth to try and stop the cries from being torn out of her mouth.
"(Y/N), what-what happened? You know what, I need to get a medical cart or something over here fast. I'll be able to heal you in my lab if it's still in tact. I'll be right back!" Shuri yelled before running off to god knows where. She wouldn't make it in time, you knew that.
"T'Challa, she's not going to make it. Let her know how important she is to me, okay?" you asked, coughing slightly. The stinging taste of blood filled your mouth, and it was overpowering to your smell, making you also smell blood. You wanted to puke from that disgusting aroma and taste. "And T'Challa, please know that you mean the world to me, and more. I have loved growing up with you and being with you and Shuri. And I'm so sorry I wasn't strong enough," you finished, dramatically coughing up blood at the end. T'Challa helped sit you up slightly so you could breathe a bit better and not get blood all over your face.
"Don't act like this is good buy. It's not. Shuri will get here in time I promise you," he said, his words wobbly. The tears in his eyes had now escaped, and were running down his face and landing on your twisted torso. "And besides, there will be no White Wolf without you (Y/N). Nobody is as skilled as you. Nobody works well with me like you. Nobody else is...well, you," his speech came to a watery close as both of you had tears streaming down your faces.
"The show must go on, T'Challa. We both know that. I love you," you were barely able to whisper out that last sentence, before you coughed up so much blood, it was an impossible task to breathe. Your eyes glazed over and your body lost it's warm touch.

A/N: Hey guys! I hoped you liked this chapter, and I also hope you don't mind the fact that I used song lyrics. I love this song so freaking much, and usually I don't like these types of chapters in books, but I couldn't resist. Queen is a legend and I'm working on something else that's also a Queen song related fic (don't expect to see it soon tho).
- Really quick fact: Brian May showed the song to Freddie Mercury and was worried at first that he wouldn't be able to do it on account of is health getting worse. On the day they recorded it, Mercury downed a shot of vodka and said "I'll f*cking do it darling." Then he sang it in one go. Also, that's my new favorite quote.
Another thing: 602. Reads? GUYS I FREAKING SQUEALED!! Thank you so much and I'm glad a lot of people are enjoying my work. Keep it up and I might just explode.
Next chapter is supposed to be happier, it's a bit angsty and long in the beginning but then I load y'all up on time skips. After that, I have no clue what I'm going to do, so suggestions are always nice!
Bye Lovelies!!!!!
*quick disclaimer: This song isn't mine, it was written and sung beautifully by Queen*
