Stucky

**Quick side note: Tony Stark Did Not Die. In this, they did a sort of similar thing to the end of GOTGV1, and also Steve went back in time to deliver the stones yes and went back to Peggy yes, but only said goodbye to her one last time and gave her the compass (closure). Steve did still retire and hand the shield to Sam. He and Bucky and happy. I'm in denial and you cannot change my mind.**

**Also this is different from my other imagines in that you do appear as a character, but mostly as a side character for a brief moment. Let me know what you think!**

Steve had feelings for Bucky since...lord, since way before the ice. Bucky had feelings for Steve before he became 'Captain America'. Yet, they could never display those feelings back in the 30s and 40s. These days, however, it was totally acceptable. So the two ended up getting together. When they told the team, one half of the team had to hand money over to the other half. So yeah, they were totally cool with it.

Now, the public was weirder about it. There were the Stucky ships already, so those fangirls were completely ecstatic. Then there were the older people who grew up with the two men and just didn't like it. Eventually, it mostly passed over with only a few rude comments here and there.

Today, Steve and Bucky had a really serious talk. Like, talking about the future and stuff. "Buck...I don't want to make this awkward in any way...but I," Steve cut himself off and sighed, hurrying his face into his hands.

"Steve, it'll be fine. There are very few things that'll make me feel awkward with you, alright? Now, what is it?" Bucky asked the other soldier, then took a drink from his coffee next to him. Steve looked up and thought for a moment, deciding to just come out with it.

"I want to adopt."

In a span of three seconds, Bucky spat out his coffee, jumped up from his seat, and nearly went right back down. Steve followed in suit. He knew it was a bad idea to bring it up; Buck didn't trust himself around adults, so how the hell could he trust himself around a kid?

Steve ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "Shit I'm sorry Buck. I...I should know that you'd be really hesitant to the idea. Please forget I ever said anything we can just go on like normal," Steve said, fumbling through half the apology so he could just get it all out there.

"Steve." The man stopped and looked over to Bucky. "I think it's a good-great idea. I just...I don't want to hurt them, and I'm scared that I'll soldier out one day and I know you can handle me but a kid? That scares me even more," Bucky confessed.

There was another moment of pause, this one filled with silence. Steve took a couple steps to reach Bucky, and hugged him. It took him a moment, but the other man wrapped his arms around Steve.

"It's going to be okay Buck. Shuri got all of that Hydra crap out of your head, so the words can't affect you. And you told me yourself that the nightmares have been getting better. I think a more stable environment will be beneficial," Steve said softly into Bucky's shoulder. Buck nodded and the two sat and talked for a bit longer.

~~

It was a couple days later when the men were able to get away from the compound and head on down to the city to an orphanage to find someone. They ended up deciding that they would just choose the child that 'spoke to them' per say when they got there.

When the doors opened, Steve got really sad vibes coming off the place, Bucky feeling them too. There was a small desk in front of them, so they walked towards it. A middle-aged woman sat there looking at her computer in front of her. She finally looked up when there was a shift out of the corner of her eye.

"Hello how may...I....help...you..." she trailed off as she looked up at the famous duo in front of her. "Y-you're Captain America...and the Winter Soldier..."

"Steve and Bucky work just fine ma'am," Bucky responded while giving her a nod. She nodded back, her wide eyes not going away yet. "We actually want to adopt someone."

She cleared her throat and looked down at her computer. "Well um let me look...we typically don't do same day adoptions because the process is pretty long and the kids will need time to get used to their new environment and they'll also need time to integrate into a school and-" she stopped her self and laughed. "Sorry, I'm ranting. Let's just start with basic questions. Are you looking for a specific age or gender?"

"No, we're just looking for a kid who'll fit with our lifestyle I guess."

"Okay, what's the school plan?"

"Most likely high school out in the city, but we can also do online or tutors if that's what they feel most comfortable with."

"And where are you all living? For safety measures."

"At the Avengers compound in upstate New York. We have state of the art...well, everything and are ready for anything. There are females in the environment too in case we get a girl; she'll need a female friend I guess," Steve said.

The lady at the desk nodded and continued to type on her computer and look at things. The guys stood there awkwardly while she typed away. "Okay!" she said enthusiastically, nearly scaring Steve. "I have someone who I think will be perfect! Her name is Isabell and is twelve years old. Let's walk and talk," she said, and came out from behind the desk to lead the men.

"So, there are some important things to note. She is pretty shy and has a tough time being left alone especially in new places. However, if she asks for privacy, she's okay. Just make sure she knows where she can find you. Also, she's pretty advanced in school for her age so just keep her on that track and everything will be golden for her in high school. Kids seem to drop off at that point. Final thing that's super important is-"

"Isabell come her darling!" An old, small man came out from a large looking room. He had on some old black glasses and looked very nice and friendly- the perfect guy for this kind of environment. "Ah, lovely to meet you gentlemen." He also had a German accent.

The front desk lady looked at the round old man and asked, "So she's getting ready? I figured she'd really want to meet these two before everything is signed and ready to go. Glad you were able to grab her Stan."

Stan nodded and a young girl came out of the giant room, holding a mint green backpack with white polka dots all over it. "Hey Isabell," the woman greeted. "These two men were hoping to meet you and possibly adopt?" She stopped there, as the two shared a look of understanding. Bucky and Steve however noticed something the desk lady didn't mention.

Isabell didn't have a left arm.

"This is Isabell. She's an amputee if you haven't already noticed," the lady said. She squatted down to the ground and gave Isabell a hug. "I'm going to go get the papers ready. The three of you can chat here."

The lady started to walk away when Steve grabbed her arm. "Wait miss, what's your name?"

"(Y/n)." She continued to walk back up to the front. When Steve turned back around, he saw Bucky sitting on the floor in front of Isabell while she looked at his metal arm.

She looked up into Bucky's eyes and gave him a little smile. "We're the same," she whispered. It was then that Bucky broke down, tears flowing freely and quickly down his face. He nodded and repeated the statement. Steve smiled and went to fill out the paperwork for adopting her. "I want an arm like yours." The statement was whispered so quietly, Bucky wasn't entirely sure he heard it. He would've said something, but decided it would be a great surprise one day.

(Y/n) came back to deliver the paperwork for the men to sign, and she let them know there might be more mailed to them in the future. However, with some magical strings being pulled, they were able to take Isabell home right away (they knew it had something to do with their status, but neither complained).

The car ride back to the base had Steve up in the driver's seat and Bucky and Isabell in the back seat. Bucky didn't want to leave her alone in the back so he decided to sit with her and talk. It was mostly Bucky talking and explaining some things, with Isabell asking a question only every now and then.

"So, do you have a preference on school?" Steve asked her. She thought for a moment and shrugged. "You can do public, private, or homeschool. Whichever makes you feel most comfortable."

There was another silence filled with Isabell thinking. Then, "I want to be homeschooled." Steve nodded and made a mental note to talk about this more with Tony when they got home-

"Crap," Steve whispered aloud. The two passengers in the back didn't pick up on what Steve said, which was kind of good. He'd hate to try and explain to the two of them that the team didn't exactly know that him and Buck adopted a kid. Tony was the closest to knowing, and that was just because Steve wanted to see if it was okay; Tony still didn't know they actually went through with it.

"Hey Friday, I need you to take the wheel," Steve said as he started to let go of the wheel and reach for his phone (he was really getting the hang of using all this tech stuff). He heard Friday give a response and went on to text Tony.

S: Hey Tony, I have to tell you something.

It was a couple minutes until the other man answered.

T: What's up capsicle?

S: Well...Bucky and I may or may not have done something...

T: Which one of you am I bailing out?

S: No! Not like that. It's related to the thing we talked about a couple days ago.

The reply took a bit to come, and Steve noticed they were getting a bit too close to the compound for Tony to not be answering.

T: YOU GOT A KID????? ALREADY?????? WTF THAT WAS QUICK

S: Language.

T: Steve, I swear. Did you really adopt a kid?

S: Yeah...her name is Isabell. I'm really excited for everyone to meet her. Speaking of, is the whole team at the compound.

T: Thor's off planet but other than him yeah. Danvers is even here, which is throwing me off but whatever.

S: Great. I'm almost to the compound, so get everyone gathered in the common room. And make sure they understand not to overwhelm her. Keep it a surprise, but make sure they all understand to keep calm.

T: I can try my very best.

S: Thank you.

The car pulled in front of the building to let the three passengers out of it, then the car went off into the garage. "That's a really fancy car," Isabell said. Bucky smiled and agreed with her. The two led her through the main doors and into the compound. Tony was there for them at the front, and found Isabell immediately. There was a brief flicker of his eyes down to her missing arm, but he didn't comment.

"Hey guys. I hear you miss," he crouched down to the same level as Isabell, "are the person of honor this evening." Isabell smiled and blushed. Tony smiled back and stood up to talk to the older men. "You two better have some plans working through your brains."

Steve nodded and the four of them made their way into the common room. They all heard the chatting from the other team members, and as they walked in it all hushed. Well that's a dramatic entrance. The team was all looking at the four who just entered, mainly Isabell. She noticed all of their stares and hid behind Bucky and Steve to attempt to hide herself.

"Everyone, this is Isabell. She is Buck and I's kid," Steve said, placing a hand onto Isabell's back to try and comfort her. She held onto Bucky's hand with hers and peered around his leg a bit. The team was trying desperately not to make her uncomfortable, but her arm -or lack there of- was throwing some of them off.

Wanda made the first move out of everyone. She got up from her seat next to Clint and slowly made her way to Isabell, then crouched down a few feet in front of her. "Hi Isabell. My name is Wanda," she said. Isabell let go of Bucky to give her a wave, which Wanda very happily returned. After that, each team member came up to introduce themselves to her (Sam made her laugh with one of his weird bird jokes) until everyone had gotten a chance to meet her. Danvers had even showed her how her fists can light up; that made Isabell look in awe.

"Alright then, I'm going to show Isabell her new room. We'll see about having a huge family dinner or something later," Bucky said. Everyone waved and Steve followed Bucky and Isabell down to where her new room was going to be.

They walked down a hall to an elevator, and then down a hall where most rooms were (Tony had a private wing and the off-world heroes had rooms in a separate place they could come and go to in the night without waking others up). Bucky stopped in front of a closed door. Steve and Tony had talked about how that room would be perfect since it's right across from him and Bucky's room.

Bucky looked down at Isabell. "Ready?" he asked, and she nodded her head. She smiling widely and was almost bouncing in a way. Bucky opened the door all the way and let Isabell walk in first. Him and Steve followed behind.

Isabell looked around the room in wonder, her eyes wide and taking everything in. The room was simply decorated, which allowed for Isabell to decorate it how she wanted. There was a bed on the same wall the door was with small tables on each side. Along the opposite wall on the far corner, there was a plain and basic desk, and a few behind it on that wall there was a door leading to her own bathroom, which had a door that lead to a walk-in closet that doubled as a safe room. The bed and desk were basic, temporary pieces of furniture that could/would get replaced if Isabell wanted something more her style.

That was another plan. Steve and Buck had sorta discussed that they wanted to take her and another female Avenger out shopping over the next week so she could get stuff to decorate her room and other personal things like clothes and toys and whatever 12 year olds like.

"What do you think?" Steve asked Isabell. "I know it's pretty plain and stuff right now, but we did that so you'd have a chance to decorate it however you want."

She turned and looked at him with the brightest smile. "I love it so much! It's so big and the bed," she said, running to jump onto the bed, "Is so soft! This is a million times better than anything I've lived in before!" She was so excited, jumping around on her bed a little bit. She jumped off the bed and took her backpack off, then went over to the desk and put the backpack down on the chair.

Bucky and Steve were smiling the whole time Isabell ran around her room admiring the space. When she saw that she had her own bathroom, she squealed and ran inside to check out everything. The two men were teary-eyed, and proud of themselves for being able to give this little girl everything she needed, wanted, and more.

~~

It had been a couple weeks since Isabell was brought into a loving home. (Y/n) had sent the two new fathers the rest of the paperwork needed, and also sent a letter for Isabell to read and answer about what she thinks of her new life. To say the least, Isabell wrote in a colorful pen and added plenty of hearts on the edges and on the outside of the envelope.

She had also been attending 'family dinners' almost every evening with the team at around 6:30 pm. All the fellow Avengers were so excited to have her there, with some of them even teaching her for her homeschooling. Steve and Bucky taught history, Tony taught engineering and math, Bruce was science, Natasha and Clint took over PE, Wanda helped teach her English stuff (with help from Peter Parker), and then Isabell ended every school day doing some sort of fine art or just art activity. It was a good life.

The Avengers sat around the table passing around giant boxes of Chinese takeout, when Steve asked, "How was your day Isabell?"

She served herself some fried rice and passed it along to Thor. "Oh it was alright. One of my teachers wasn't very nice today though.."

"Okay, I said I was sorry for accidentally hitting you with a dodgeball. Nat already chewed me out don't get your dads on the case either," Clint groaned. Isabell smiled and laughed at this.

She grabbed an egg roll and took a bite. "It's fine Uncle Clint, I forgive you. Watching you do push-ups with Aunt Nat on your back while yelling at you was a whole new form of entertainment," she said, causing nearly everyone to laugh.

Isabell started to eat her food and suddenly the table was pretty silent. She looked up at everyone and sucked in a rogue noodle. "What? Why is everyone uncharacteristically quiet?" she asked.

"Well," Steve started. "We have a surprise for you." Tony then got up and grabbed a long case from under the table and walked over to Isabell. Steve continued, "During your math portion of the day, Tony has been doing measurement stuff on your right arm not just for the lesson..."

Tony opened the case and showed Isabell what was inside. "But also to make you this," he said, and grabbed the new metal arm out from the case. For the past few weeks while Isabell had been there, each team member was secretly figuring out how she'd want to style her new arm. Carol had even gotten her to draw what she'd want in place of a red star (like Bucky's arm) without her figuring out.

Isabell gasped and looked at the arm in awe. There it was, almost exactly like her dad's arm, except with her own symbol; it was half of Captain America's shield and half of the Winter Soldier's star. Steve and Bucky never saw the design until now, so both of them were very teary-eyed when they saw it.

Bucky was trying his best to keep his tears in, but Steve let a few slip before trying to hold his own in. "Look dad! Now I can be like you!" Isabell said, looking over at Bucky. With that, the dams broke and Bucky started to full on cry.

"I guess so princess," he said, coming over to give her a huge hug. "After dinner Uncle Tony can help get it on, alright?" Isabell nodded her head and Tony put the case with her arm inside beside Isabell's chair. Now it was time for some questions.

Isabell asked what it was made of (Vibranium; T'Challa had met her earlier that week when dropping it off and fell in love), how it would connect to her nervous system (wiring and advanced tech), if she'd be conscious or asleep while it was being put on (they'd start with her being conscious, but the moment it started to hurt she'd be put under), and if she'd be able to feel with her metal arm (Bucky took that one, saying "For the first little bit, it's going to be like your arm is asleep- you can see what it's doing but you can't feel it. Once your brain gets used to it and the wires connect well, then it'll be like having a real arm.").

Isabell ate her dinner quickly and raced down to the lab so she could be ready for the process. Almost all of the Avengers were there with her, until it came to the actual putting on process for privacy reasons (Nat and Wanda stayed with Bucky and Steve). She ended up having to be put under, which worried the hell out the dads, but Bruce assured she'd be okay and stayed to monitor vitals.

It was a process, but by morning, Isabell woke up to a new arm. For the first time in a while, she had two arms.

~~

For the past 10 years, Tony (and sometimes Shuri) would make a new arm for Isabell as the old one got too small. They made sure to use as much from the old arm in the new arm in order to cut down on vibranium usage. Isabell was so excited each time she got a new arm, it was like her first.

And every since she got an arm, Steve and Bucky both agreed to let her train and become a part of the team. When they told her, Isabell was (again) excited and started to train immediately. She, of course, still had to do school work, so Nat decided to replace PE with training to keep Isabell on track.

Since Isabell has grown up to be an adult, she's been given a lot more freedom. She's also been a lot more comfortable with leaving on her own. And today, she had a plan that involved one of her favorite uncle's help.

"Uncle Tony!" Isabell called out as she entered his lab. The man in question looked up from his work station and smiled at his favorite niece. "I want to ask you something."

Tony nodded and set down his tools. "Sure kiddo, what do you want?" he asked her, while also wiping his hands off on a towel next to him on the table.

"Well," Isabell started. She walked over and sat on a stool next to him. "I wanted to ask if I could use some of that extra money you have and donate some to the orphanage I was in before coming here. I've been keeping up with them and they've been having money trouble lately, and can't provide as much resources to the kids."

Tony sat there and thought. The obvious answer was yes, but that's not what he was thinking about. He was thinking about how Isabell had gained so much confidence to be able to ask him questions like that. They were weird and could come off as a bit rude, but Tony knew Isabell more than that, and knew whatever she did she did out of the good of her heart.

He nodded and smiled at Isabell. "Of course kid. Why don't we go down there and I'll write them a check right there to make sure we can cover all of it, alright?" he asked. Isabell's face lit up and she nodded vigorously. Tony laughed and said, "Careful! I don't want all of that nodding to cause your head to fall off!"

~

The pair got into one of Tony's many cars and drove on down to the little orphanage in the city. Isabell hadn't been back there since the day she was picked up, but knew from her letters and media tracking that her favorite employee (Y/n) still worked there even though it had been ten years. She hoped that she'd see (Y/n) at the front desk when they got there.

"And we're here kid. Let's do this!" Tony got out of the car and had FRIDAY go park it somewhere after Isabell got out too. The two looked at the front of the building and saw lots of outside damage.

Isabell shared a look with Tony, then sighed and looked back at the building. "Well, they definitely need it. Let's go," she said. She walked in first with Tony behind, and Isabell was greeted with a familiar environment. The place looked almost the same, just with some other random things laying around.

"Hello?" a voice called out, coming from around the corner. When the lady rounded the corner, she stopped dead in her tracks and stared at Tony and Isabell. "Y-you're Tony Stark. A-and you're..." she gasped and took another step forward. "Isabell?" she questioned quietly. Isabell smiled in confirmation, and the lady came over to wrap her in a hug. "Wow! 10 years has been good on you! I love the arm!" The two separated, and Tony shook her hand.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" (Y/n) asked. Isabell looked at Tony and tried to sort of communicate with her eyes. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes, everything is great for us. Now for you...it's about to get better," Tony said. He was pretty good at getting right to the point, but also remaining somewhat vague. It was great for surprises.

(Y/n) looked between the two, confused. "I-I don't understand?" she questions, trying to laugh to keep it less awkward.

Isabell looked at her uncle and he nodded, saying that Isabell could do the honors. "Well, we heard that this place was struggling financially and wanted to come by and donate some money to help you guys out."

"Will 3 million be okay?" Tony asked as he started to write the check. (Y/n) looked ready to cry, and hugged Isabell.

She pulled away and tried to wipe away her tears (she was not very successful). "T-thank you so much! This means so much to us. The kids are going to be thrilled once this place starts to look more like a home," she said, sobbing still.

After they did an entire exchange, (Y/n) went off to tell coworkers and get the check cashed. Tony and Isabell left in his car, both feeling a lot happier.

When they got home, Steve and Bucky were there, confused as to where their daughter went. Isabell got out of the car and went over to them. "Hey dads!" She gave each of them a hug for a more personal greeting, going to Bucky who was closer, and then Steve.

When she let go of him, Steve took on 'protective dad mode'. "Where'd you two go? I don't exactly remember you telling us where you were going," he said. Isabell looked to the floor a bit sheepishly and chuckled.

"Sorry. I had an idea and it involved Uncle Tony, so we went off." She looked back to her dads to see both of them wanting more information. "We went down the the orphanage I came from. I saw (Y/n) and said hi, then Uncle Tony wrote her and the orphanage a check for three million dollars. They needed the money, and they are a big part of my life, so I owed it to them," she explained further.

Steve and Bucky smiled to each other, realizing they did something right.
